Congressional leaders meet at the White House to talk about America's next great debate taxes and the debt.

House speaker John Boehner insisting he will not raise the debt limit without a deal that slashes spending.

And extends the current tax cuts which are set to expire in -- year.

It's going to be an -- six months folks I talk to Republican Kevin McCarthy a bit earlier -- Majority whip California congressman Kevin McCarthy with me now from the -- good morning -- you thank you for coming back to America's news.

Thanks for having that can you guarantee a vote on this tax extension this summer or at least before the election.

Well this is what the Republicans are doing they.

Ways and means chairman Dave Camp of myself for holding listening sessions inside my office because we think the only way out of this is to expand.

The economy and that means you need tax reform so America can compete.

You lower that you close the loopholes you you expand our ability to compete in other places of this world and we think they'll be a vote inside the house because the difference between the Democrats and Republicans.

They wanna add more taxes is just gonna further and -- -- -- what what you're trying to do was show your hand to voters ahead of the election in November you talk to your members every day.

You know I think -- supported this or do they want more at the moment.

-- there and support of -- I know the president says he's more flexible after the election but I think the voters actually should see what do we more flexible on what do we proposing.

For the future you know this president makes a lot of promises he doesn't keep.

He promised he'd cut this deficit in half and now he's added more -- in the last forty presidents combined.

We also have this battle over the debt ceiling Tim Geithner has some choice words yesterday Treasury Secretary.

He called last year's showdown drama.

-- -- cause pain and damage to the country.

It seems like we're headed toward another battle what do you say to those words.

Well the thing I would say if we waited for the president you still would even have a debt ceiling.

So the idea that he continues to add to the debt when the senate Democrats won't even propose a budget.

-- -- the vote on five today the president's budget in the house not one Democrat even voted for the beating -- get a vote.

There's no direction from there's a lack of leadership in the White House.

So -- Republicans proposed out there that we have to do something different you have to control the spending of the government the same time expand the economy.

The president when a -- and that cannot be the case.

In California to you've got a mess you're drowning in debt the headline this week was staggering.

You went from a nine billion projected deficit to a sixteen billion dollar deficit that is one state now.

And you have these governors across the country now competing for businesses who may want to leave the state of California.

Out of my -- Republican governor Terry Branstad tweeted this if you're California company facing stifling tax and regulatory burdens we will welcome you and Iowa to which the Republican governor from Ohio John Kasich said.

Not a -- Ohio gets them first.

California leads the way in American -- and an end.

Forecasting what's to come for the rest of the nation.

What do we don't learn about what's happening here.

We we should learn from -- When you know California has a millionaire's tax California has cap and trade and they go further into debt.

They have to 12% of the entire nation's population but 32% of the entire nation's population that's on welfare.

They get 25% of their entire budget.

From a 144000.

People -- -- 37 million this is the wrong direction.

-- the third time since 1986.

No Republican won statewide and a lot of these -- eleven other states.

They say to me it's like living next door the Simpsons that California through their high regulation high tax burden and now the proposing higher taxes.

Businesses are shifting away.

And that is the wrong direction and unfortunately that's the same direction this White House has proposed so we've seen the experience -- in California you don't want to put that on to the nation.

Kevin McCarthy thank you for your -- we're -- follow the meaning of the White House gets underway in about an hour's time we'll -- would headlines come out of again thank answer we'll speak again.

Thanks for having me.
