Good evening I'm Bret -- with a little less than six months ago before the election governor Mitt Romney's bid to replace President Obama.

Is going the wrong way tonight at least in one poll the latest Fox News polls out this hour short drop off for Romney in the head to head match up.

This comes as the GOP challenger unleashes a blistering attack against the president's economic policies.

Chief political correspondent Carl Cameron has our top story.

Slipping in the latest national fox poll Mitt Romney kicked off a two day campaign swing -- the battleground state of Florida.

The new Fox News national survey shows Romney lost a bit of ground in recent weeks and if the Obama Romney votes were tallied today it would be Obama 46 Romney 39 a seven point drop for Romney since last month.

Prior to the new fox survey the real clear politics average of recent polls have the president leading by less than two points.

Among independent voters who often decide close general elections the new fox poll shows Romney leading 3429.

But -- advantage has diminished in recent weeks the gender gap remains substantial.

Romney's 22 points behind mr.

Obama among women while the president trails -- by nine points among men.
