We are back and go back my focus on politics and have you company's new polls are coming out they should embrace presidential race tightening a bit.

I want to some polls out there what are stream North Carolina question and ask who would you vote for for president.

Take a look we've got President Obama at 43%.

While governor Mitt Romney.

Come in at 51%.

These -- -- polls and I was constant and questions asked.

President Obama 49 with Mitt Romney 45 -- so.

The gap is closing I know we've got months gentlemen before the actual election happens but it is interesting to see -- this stage of the game.

Mitt Romney had some traction here.

We've got half a year until the election -- it it's a ways away man there are a number of different factors that are playing into this for sure.

I'm poles are -- and definitely be going up and down and we're going to be -- them leery of the -- -- Mitt Romney doesn't take a big can't -- little and other things that he has not suffered -- people are still getting to know Mitt Romney and people are still getting to know the contrast in these candidates.

You know we because we're you know put.

Follow this stuff every day.

Are very good -- Following this extremely carefully there are a lot of people in this country that make up their mind a weaker now -- after Labor Day it -- sort of professional but -- And the fact of the matter I mean Rick Santorum was recently -- I hold him -- him.

You shouldn't you know dismissed the fact that despite all the hits -- -- taken and all the predictions of his you know.

Divide -- sense that he couldn't catch up even at this stage of the game and it's interesting to note that he has made up some great.

And Hillary in -- in -- three weeks ago you said that.

You know people got to know Mitt Romney during this primary process and it's really hurt him because you know you can -- and you can see the gap that gender gap that that exists here and you know -- of women voters are gonna.

Are gonna vote for Romney and I see that.

The numbers of the numbers of clothes -- you're saying well they really don't know and yet so.

Now I think that yes for six months out if you look at North Carolina.

The president's position on gay marriage.

Coming on the heels of the stuff of the the gay marriage vote there I think the Obama campaign is pretty much written off North Carolina which they won by.

Less than 1% in 2008.

And we're we're starting to see.

That they're gonna they're gonna need to change -- of their overall strategy that's one state that's not going to be in there when -- -- along with in along with Indiana.

And and I'm probably I'm probably Virginia.

This is into the president's right about one thing this is going to be a is going to be a tight race but the folks that three weeks ago were saying Romney was so wounded from this long.

GOP primary process really needs settle down and we're all gonna go back.

And forth on these things you know my attention I think all of these predictions -- happen with the political pundits out there are both sides because we have.

You're -- get 24 hours of airtime every single day to fill with some talking head who needs -- talk about something.

And Soledad makes it a lot of fun for us in -- get this thing is.

This is you know neck and neck and it's you know could have come down to the wire and it is gonna come down to the wire but it's gonna come down to the wire six months from now.

So there's quite a bit of time and you know I've gotten.

Thomas -- a good point I am walking back on my worst thing that.

And people got to know him through -- Mitt Romney through the primary process they did to a large extent especially people really active in the Republican Party were voting in the primaries.

But that's not to say there won't be.

And education -- continue this you know we -- reason there will be revelations that come.

To the four.

We saw this Washington Post article about the bullying -- -- you know -- I'm not gonna when he was sixteen years audience like if that's what you're hanging your campaign on you got a real problem but.

-- out there.

Think we are businesses are just really want and are gonna go back and forth and the Democrats are gonna do their war on women and trying to get.

Down that road the end of the Republicans are gonna start bringing -- stuff for sure that -- off also.

Rather ridiculous from Barack Obama's autobiography -- Tony Tony Rezko was handed income -- -- to the little girl.

I'm not I think what you you know what -- Hollywood isn't yet George W.

Bush -- anything happens before I was.

Forty is off limits -- is not you know I think that might be a little extreme and I but I am not gonna go after anybody for what they did win in their wayward -- when they were eighteen or 25 years -- -- and the Democrats and the -- there.

You know it -- it did the Democrats on the Washington I don't know what Washington Post reporter -- -- and let and other.

Reportedly -- from it also.

-- -- -- to support credit isn't it isn't an anecdote that reinforces this narrative that Mitt Romney think the thinks the world exists you know in in terms of winners and losers and that there are people who are.

You know strong and powerful and people were weak and vulnerable to be picked on I think I don't know I think what what I don't -- -- -- -- our last president.

You just get go to our road where you can just pick up anything that can use president's words from them you know audio book when he talks about.

What he did when he was.

Well actually let's use the president's words from his own campaign in 2008 -- Garnett legacy does this campaign go on in -- -- should be talking about and and and his failed record.

And the more people you know consider this to be a do nothing administration other than spend lots of money and put us deeper into debt.

Then the more the folks are going to take various for as long hard look at Mitt Romney.

And what he's gonna offer and we're still hearing from the Romney campaign what what the plan is going to be -- what their what their.

Platform and into the position I and I am I when he isn't we'll very -- problem for the president they're citing more seeing these these types of numbers.

-- -- -- isn't true that -- having a really difficult time the democratic platform putting in he's but he writes gay marriage in the platforms to.

If there's some resistance some push back that they don't wanna put it is part of the platinum group I don't think an -- And -- I think compassion and tolerance they're always -- and -- -- -- -- -- -- but you know supporting gay marriage right president spoke -- -- they supported it can't give it -- sure sure.

But to put in the platform this this is -- there there.

There has been there's been some some back and forth you talk to different members of the -- the the gay and lesbian community and -- We're really excited about this announcement this week.

They're not as excited about it now because they see it purely as a political calculation as a matter of fact the poll came out yesterday that showed most Americans see it.

Purely as a political calculation and the president isn't people residents tell us about it actually it.

Doing anything.

He's saying I support gay marriage but he's not he also in the same breath said.

But it's a State's rights issue which means that he is not really going to get involved in the issue I hear you -- and I think there are I think there are people who were part of the Democratic National Committee.

Who really thought that this was now going to be something that the president really wants to talk more about.

And and I don't think he does I think that this was a ploy to get money and votes from the gay and lesbian community trying to energize that community.

I think he's been very successful in doing that you know from the anecdotal evidence we've seen so far.

But it's not necessarily something that -- that the White House is gonna -- to be on Democratic Party platforms of the some -- So -- -- respond and that I do think that absolutely the Democratic Party is putting and putting its best minds together to figure out.

This this is death is not a not a matter of whether this is going to be a part of the platform it's how it's going to be a part of the platform when the president says something that he supports for example gay marriage.

He's not.

Not doing anything he's not just simply saying something there is.

It's an under academics call it a performance of utterance of -- of the president comes out and says I support -- change in this law.

You better believe that people on the state level on the local level Democrats and people throughout the party the president doesn't just lead the party by the way leads the country.

And I think that if that this president is is four and we're fortunate enough to see a second term.

This is going to be a big part of the agenda and it's that's the -- and it's the civil rights.

Issue of our generation.

I think that you're not gonna see what one thing I will say -- you're not gonna see this issue come up.

Two locally in the Republican.

Convention I think you can.

Mitt Romney will sort of moderate earners speak about it secretive -- and quietly among religious leaders.

And we'll have some other than let's say that I just talk about -- -- talk about marriage nobody want to talk about defense of marriage and do that in defense of marriage act he won't talk about taking away people's rights it's not -- really inspirational narrative.

And it hurt her or preventing people from getting right doesn't support civil unions I just thought Romney -- yes yeah so -- Thompson George W.

Bush and -- that's pretty a pretty mainstream right -- -- civilian who supports a constitutional amendment barring people from having right now how many constitutional amendments that we have barring people from getting right.

Not too many and and frankly any time we would work on and we aren't.

What gay rights to gays from getting mad at me that's it right for firing right from get it right because the president says.

Gays have a right to get married -- but the interest is in his -- In his but my point is that in -- is his typical MO he's talking about something.

But in terms of actually pushing forward he's gonna be careful because it is a political calculation he's gonna be careful to not do more damage than he's -- listen.

Barack Obama actually got a percentage of the evangelical vote in 2008 about a quarter of about a quarter of it that's what happened to just -- away.

So with him a lot of you have Joseph and I have friends that are -- the support of gay marriage that that evangelical vote is gonna disappear.

And so he's he's banking that though that he left and his party is going to energize what -- There is because he's taken a stand on gay marriage not about losing your rights in this up the disaffected supports gay marriage.

Lot of it was an evangelist for the USA we don't we don't.

You're like you don't want African American ministers in the religious community there will come out opposed to it now that the White House has been talking to leaders in the religious communities.

In the African American communities -- it have been traditionally opposed to gay marriage.

Jay-Z just came out and said that he's in favor of gay marriage is people listen to chasing a little bit because people listen to the President Obama as the president has who has the moral authority and has lived the podium that he has in order to be able to to lead on public opinion.

And -- the callers on the major on the major platforms particularly the major Christian platforms talk radio platforms.

In.

The bucket in the Bible Belt but also in the south of -- -- a lot of Nigerian a lot of African American lot of African American listeners and you're getting these ministers to call -- you're getting African Americans to -- -- and say.

We -- flatly oppose this why is he why would he do such a thing.

And like I -- I think Chicago look at the numbers.

And felt you know this is money this is votes.

Now we need to increase turnout among we need to we need to -- somebody in the face in the base and this is what we're gonna do that systems such as cynical person.

Active and I know that and and honestly if America is cynical right now because people like us -- up here saying that everything the president does American political cup you know America is we don't give them any credit -- taken at his word there and -- -- -- right here now because this supposedly non political calculation.

Resulted magically.

In gay and lesbian bisexual T shirts being sold on the Obama campaign website less than 24 hours after he made the decision so.

And his team in the fashion and -- that there's nothing I'd -- guy.

That's fabulous for dominance I think this is that the view it's a way obviously that are happening right now but I know that you all agree to disagree except.

I'd really connect next time it I'm sure you'll have a lot artists say I'm a variety of other issues that are making news -- -- had to -- with you -- thank you happy to.
