Fox News is America's election headquarters and some brand new Fox News polls just out.

Including where the presidential candidates stand in a head to head match up and America's opinions on the economy.

First if the election were held today President Obama would enjoy a 7% advantage over presumptive Republican nominee governor Mitt Romney.

Three weeks ago the candidates were tied at 46%.

Each in this same poll.

But on the all important issue of the economy 45% of voters think conditions are worse than they were in 200828%.

Think they are better.

Bob Cusack he's managing editor of the hill.

Bob we should note that that a poll has a plus or minus 3% margin of error is so and effectively.

They are still tied but frank he you if you take away 3% from.

Barack Obama and give 3% to Mitt Romney Barack Obama still wins this election.

What do you think has changed in voters' attitudes since the last time this poll was taken.

Well -- -- gas prices have gone down a bit and then over the last year the unemployment rate.

Has dropped almost a full percentage point however the Romney campaign is making the case this is insufficient and the public is wrestling.

With whether the economy is getting better and the White House has to tell -- delicate line -- saying yes it is getting better but we have still have a lot of work to do.

And and Mitt Romney saying listen it's been three and a half years it's time for a change in direction but but this these polls are fasting because they show that.

A right now on the message war Obama's got a little bit of an edge but of course -- got a long way to go.

Here's an interest -- poll question that was asked -- voters were asked what is the best thing that President Obama has done to help the economy.

15% say he stopped job loss and stop the recession.

8% say the loans to the auto industry were -- good -- 7%.

Say this stimulus bill was a good thing that's a surprising number.

When you look at how much money was spent.

5% say the health care law 43%.

Say.

The president has done nothing to help that's kind of an ominous number if you're on the -- Obama reelection team.

Yeah a look at data stimulus health care and nothing.

I mean that those numbers are not good for the president and you don't hear the White House talking a lot about the stimulus -- -- in 2009 we're gonna have the so called recovery summer.

The White House will not be talking about that phrase any time soon so.

You know this is this is tough for the president he's got a a record.

That he's talking about bits and pieces of it but not talking about signature achievements in hole like -- health care law.

And the stimulus and that's what Romney's gonna go laughed.

Another question who would get -- -- to manage your money Mitt Romney gets 47%.

Of the vote there.

President Obama gets 34%.

And then what -- -- yet.

Who would you hire as your life coach Mitt Romney gets 33%.

President Obama gets 47%.

What do you -- of those numbers.

Well as far as the business side of any Romney is a successful businessman and and that we recently we saw this week that Obama had.

A fair amount of money investing JPMorgan.

So so that's not surprising in and that the other issue goes right that's electability and that's something that I think you gonna see.

A lot of photo ops both campaigns being very carefully managed.

Cutting off the press on on both fans and and I think it's it's very careful of how they do these photo ops whether it's at a sports function.

-- they were really -- -- have the case that that much my guy is likable and that is going to give India a key factor down the stretch here.

There has been a great deal of back -- I guess among Republicans as they've -- trying to come up with a nominee it is now going to be Mitt Romney and appears.

People were asked why do you support your nominee in this case Mitt Romney.

43% of them say it's because he's not President Obama 14% say it's because.

He's a Republican and then 10% his positions on the issues 8%.

Jobs and the economy I suppose of -- for Mitt Romney those are some worrisome numbers.

You see -- the same way.

I do it there's good news here in that the base is going to be so fired up to get rid of President Obama but the left was was fired up to get rid of George W.

Bush in 2004.

And a lot of people voted against bush.

Not for John Kerry we know how that ended up so.

Good news bad news but Romney has to make the case of why they're voting for him and and that's where the independents are gonna come in and right now his numbers they are are not too bad.

And I suppose if the president does not win reelection he has a future career as a life coach ahead at -- absolutely that's -- -- -- from -- don't.
