The cat's not endorsements but -- political ads affect your vote for president yes no or sometimes I'll get on the results a little bit later and in fact.
Ahead of going to -- correspondent we're gonna take a look at a new -- -- -- we talked about with a little bit on the program yesterday.
Carl -- political lives super pac.
If you may know it's called crossroads an avenue added that it's -- 25 million dollar ad buy in ten different states.
Let's take a peak and then we'll talk with our panel and bond.
President Obama's agenda promised so much we must help the millions of homeowners were facing foreclosure.
I promise broken one in five mortgages are still under water.
-- -- -- -- less than 250000.
Dollars a year you will not see your taxes go up.
It's broken obamacare -- eighteen different taxes.
Do you like your health care plan.
You'll be able to keep your health care plan.
All right let's welcome in now on -- with me DV being -- -- Former chairperson for young Republican national federation get to -- -- -- and I are talking a lot off camera so we'll have to share -- everybody your thoughts and then Margaret Clifton.
Is the principle of -- consultant.
Consulting rather and she joins us obviously by satellite this morning and you are in -- where are you might just outside here in DC.
I don't Washington DC OK good good -- you're -- and then I think and somewhere.
I think a very different than everywhere yeah that right into the world and you -- -- this morning you were you able to listen or watch that political -- Unable to listen to it yet aren't I wanna go to peavy first if you'll allow me Marjorie into -- it -- -- you.
For a little bit of the president's reelection campaign responds to this but your first thought.
I think it's a great dad and we'll be very effective because basically what -- lets -- -- Brothers does this put together the facts saying you know the rhetoric is good but it's not matching.
What has actually happened so it makes them look.
Maybe not trustworthy that it's beaten he's.
Talking the talk but not walking the -- and you know where bashing your country but he's a darn good campaign or just doesn't match up for what it's really going on today.
Okay so they're saying Karl Rove says the president that they darn good for campaign -- But his critics -- but the rhetoric doesn't match up at what the reality is OK good so crossroads we took a peek at the Adam Marjorie I want to get your thoughts but I also want everybody to watch.
The Obama campaign's reaction to this.
This is Stephanie Cutter she is the deputy campaign manager let's watch.
Well we can't watch it but yeah.
I apologize for that you re enacted or and you do just I didn't.
I'm gonna get clipped on the web at -- -- -- residents -- why are you doing now what do yeah.
Memorized up marketing out there this tell me your thoughts -- that.
Well so in general I think the.
Of the really interesting campaign year and especially because the campaigns are getting so far out ahead with averages -- in the start as early -- this.
With this big of an impact and they're estimating the crossroads is gonna spend up to 200 million dollars on this presidential campaign.
On the super pac ads and it's really the super pacs that are changing the whole landscape.
Of the presidential campaign in a way because they're able to pump more money into these political -- than we've ever seen enough happening on both sides of the -- sort of this race to see.
Who can keep up and I think -- in terms of how they're gonna characterized these -- there's also a lot of talk that it's gonna be much more hard hitting them we've seen in past elections.
And I think a lot of that is because it was going to be a really close race and when playing on the economy playing on taxes with -- -- is going to be where Republicans are gonna go that's the strongest argument they have against him.
And you know on the Romney side of things it's probably going to be a lot about the flip flopping about his position on a lot of the social issues.
You know is he going to be the kind of fat president -- could turn the economy around.
But I think that it is going to be a little bit heavy handed.
You know the other thing that I found it very fascinating about how they're targeting -- targeting these that.
Is where is with George W.
Bush would -- junior.
They ran out and about fourteen different states and as you mentioned that -- running these and about nine to ten states so that's very targeted this year as well which makes it -- a completely new dynamic.
Well it may be a new dynamic but I don't think that the stakes are -- though I mean swing states have always been there absent the -- won't.
Don't you know you you attack them with 25 million dollars in the act of ads or you something that I think is much more punishing to the candidate.
And humor back in the day when they were try to I -- -- Missouri.
When Clinton was running the show we weren't in the show we stay with -- Wednesday that man must abandon -- And that swing doesn't think so I mean at least this takes the edge off I -- -- him for the candidate.
Well I don't think targeting the states is necessarily new but at packs are in the pac money it is I mean.
Do millions of dollars that crossroads is going to put -- this definitely takes away the incumbency advantage.
Is a huge.
Shouldn't even the playing field.
Oh yeah I I this is interesting the the number of the jets the New York Jets -- on FOX & Friends the couple I don't know it's been half an hour ago.
And I was in my office scurrying to get down to the -- I didn't watch the whole thing but I've heard him say.
That he is organizing some kind of a fund raiser that's going to rival the fifteen million dollar one that George Clooney just -- for the president and -- a lot of this Margaret kind of trying to make even the playing field and money wise and analyze.
It in it is it's gonna be a -- that that is a different kind of race as you said because of the super -- and where I say that the targeting different it's just that they're pumping more money.
Into these select number of states than they have in the past him bush spent about five million dollars a week.
Ensuring just a concentrated period in time and already we've got them putting 25 million dollars.
Into one specific ad buy in one specific states so it's it's if sort of heightened in that way.
But it is a race and I think Romney's advantages he is able.
To win you know the via Karl Rove and and cross -- to be able to pull a lot of super pac money and out of the strength -- the Obama campaign is having to really.
Fights you to try to keep up -- matches dollar for dollar and it is and it isn't -- it's deceit because you wanna make sure that your candidate is getting equal -- time to.
The other candidate Jack right I just pointed out and obviously president wouldn't be able to swing through the swing states as much -- -- candidate who's not office that you're trying also keep -- candidates refs aren't rules like air force -- quickly we have Stephanie Cutter.
On the president's deputy campaign manager for re election now responding to the Karl Rove that let's watch.
Hi I'm Stephanie Cutter deputy campaign manager and Obama for America well here we are again.
Call rose group crossroads is spending 25 million dollars from secret donors to tear down the president and a new ad out today it's time to tear this thing apart.
First up the attack -- says the president's not help people who face foreclosure.
That is flat out wrong because of president Obama's policies and the efforts he -- motion.
Over five point nine million homeowners were able to modify their mortgages avoid -- -- and stay in their homes.
And the president's fighting to get congress to go further to -- responsible homeowners who pay their mortgages on time.
To refinance and save on their monthly payment.
Even if they are under water.
The president is doing this because he believes homeownership is critical to helping middle class families -- for their future and don't forget Mitt Romney's plan on this.
Well I'll just let him speak for himself.
-- -- Run its course and hit the bottom I'd like to say that's unbelievable that with Mitt Romney is really not.
Well we'll have some -- reaction to the reaction in just a moment but I -- to get to our correspondent that was -- I have a lot of thoughts about that that responsive that was -- -- just as a journalist but we'll we'll talk about that the second.
Doug Luzader is gonna pop in now and I know -- -- -- you're doing the Fox News Channel and and a lot of other things because.
These poll numbers that have come out this morning are showing a new story.
I and a lot of times you say well we don't really watch the ultimate but real clear politics as an average and I watched that -- about what's happening please.
-- we'll get to the real clear politics average in a moment this is actually a Fox News poll that we have out now and it shows that despite the fact that.
That they were pretty much tied up Mitt Romney and President Obama last month this month you've got to give the edge to the president.
-- President Obama preparing to break bread with congress -- his campaign team was digesting some new polling numbers that offer them some good news.
A new Fox News poll shows the president with a sizable lead now over Republican challenger Mitt Romney seven points.
The real clear politics average of polls shows a much tighter race with the spread of just two and a half.
But Romney is trying to gain ground.
Campaigning in front of a ticking debt clock.
It's high time that we have a president who will stop this spending and borrowing inferno and I will I get the job.
The Romney campaign thinks the debt issue hits home at the latest numbers may show law.
Asking respondents to -- the president on a whole range of issues it's the bottom one there at the federal deficit where his approval numbers are the worst.
The president meanwhile is taking on congress he was -- -- which is in fact for a meeting with congressional leaders as he urges them to move on a series of measures to spur the economy.
This is the reason why.
We think it's so important for congress to act right now.
The economy is recovering.
But we've still got a long way to go.
Now there are some indications in these polling numbers that Republicans are really beginning to circle the wagons around Mitt Romney.
On the other hand you you look at just Romney supporters about 43% of them say they support Mitt Romney simply because he is not President Obama.
Back to you guys.
Very interesting all right Doug -- good to see you thank you let's bring the panel back marker Clifton in DC TV -- here on sat.
Before we went to Doug -- to give us the the meat of the warning in terms of polling and I have some great comments on the live chat about polling by the way.
We were watching Stephanie Cutter with the Obama deputy.
-- the Obama campaign is there deputy campaign manager disputing the Karl Rove.
Ad -- through crossroads about the president's recent hits.
I named by the way.
I.
-- me I say I don't know Stephanie Cutter she's a wonderful woman.
But this is her image that's out there -- and -- a little.
-- -- cheat -- names people in this response because this is actually campaign -- if -- circuit HD who shape well.
Let me see dobbs avidly gotta represent the campaign as a spokesperson she's out there in the press a lot of it's not unusual that she would come out and speak to it.
And I think we're gonna see the same kind of responses on both sides of the aisle mean -- attack ads come out.
Candidates -- wanna -- are going to want to defend themselves obviously.
And again this whole race is about how we it's I think that it uniquely in this because we've got this really tight.
Race between Obama and and and Romney.
The questions gonna become how -- they characterize and what sticks with the public and so.
You know they're gonna wanna answer to the attack ads on either side and I think that's fair and so no I think that the challenge you have in this is one Obama's gonna try to do.
Throughout the federal election is to -- that congress as an obstructionist congress that we I was not able to get economic policies I want it done.
Because of congress -- and what Romney's gonna do is point the finger at the economy at at -- -- I mean that's going to be the name of the game for the selection.
OK I -- -- get the live chat real quickly -- buddy right parents who cares about the poll.
And a poll in May.
How often does that predict a winner your thoughts on the -- and wondering.
Harris mark -- in this whole median overall poll.
Cares about that nevertheless -- Friday said as Doug said it's an overall -- actually but it -- specifically.
Who would you vote for and you -- like half the people said it's not that they were in love with anyone of the candidates they just didn't want it to -- Yeah and I can't find anything -- that.
It is now 46%.
Anybody but Obama that's good -- -- -- popular and -- probably different than the nine states -- the ninth state mr.
Obama's not doing.
All right Tom Colorado -- -- live chat right.
-- vote against the first candidate.
Who runs a really negative -- -- this could see your point and -- to -- as well about that response to the crossroads that by Stephanie Cutter.
It's -- heard the president can get very negative there and maybe not Wear any of that.
Because you can say it's going to be offended when this -- negative we have a long time ago between now and November.
Well -- you look at it that way then Romney was the one who ran the first negative out and and I would expect anyone to defend.
You know their side of it in the same way if they went after Romney -- expect him to defend it.
But you -- -- to the earlier point about.
The negative campaigning in and how all this plays out.
I mean Romney was not the chosen candidate either a mean a lot of people voted for him because he was sort of not the other candidate so I don't think that's entirely shocking with polling.
Again it's all about.
Who -- the pole and -- it's perceived and I think this is gonna Yo-Yo up and down.
By network and who's running the polls and again add it all comes down to who votes and the things -- Good -- and how the votes are cast on Election Day aren't.
Well I think the issue to the polling.
Being subject to which network run out all -- one not to me I went back I mean -- -- in an unfair and I also.
Factually correct somebody you know no and I'm sorry that's that's not what I'm I'm saying it you'll see it at.
All the networks run their pulls the same time in the numbers -- come -- Sometimes differ -- exactly exactly and the audience you know of course we update the questions are going to be different by the way right exactly they -- out one of the key issues that swing states and you see all -- talk about same sex marriage.
Don't care about that.
They want about the economy it really does and yeah.
They might -- razor -- -- because like yes.
Next came here and Obama and an end as president made it were out of that if you.
With that particular that they listen if I could take it out of the North Carolina he will be in trouble mark Maria and that's a close eye.
I look I Margaret let me get this out I wanted to ask you know very thoughtful about this if he loses the president.
-- let me be able to say is we say early on in his presidency.
If if health -- makes me unpopular than I'll just be a one term president yet and any plot like Billy held not to have it right -- so badly.
We'll visit the same way -- same sex marriage and her committee ends up losing only -- buck up and say well it was for the greater good.
I mean I -- I guess so I don't know I mean I we have we -- not bears are who knows what I'll come up with there who -- and let it rip Romney or Obama would come -- within their reason for living I would win it all of the economy.
I would point agree on it it -- -- about the economy thank you know we got out eyebrows up at all.
All right use in -- rebuttal but if you like a Saturday afternoon.
-- -- for bottle with Stephanie Cutter was very it went on to many different topic she got into the part about homeowners.
And Chris -- once -- the live chat I'm homeowner I can get a refinance because -- actually pay my bills and I know how this person feels this is true.
If I get behind -- I get help how about helping me refinance so I don't get behind the affordable housing act and ending precipitous.
Things that have come out of it but it's very hard -- that.
I -- that red tape is crimson Marjorie.
So for her put that in that rebuttal to a Karl Rove -- -- seems odd to me and I think the numbers that are coming out today that five point nine million Americans have been helped.
Through this housing act and -- support but we even hard pressed to find any of them to tell us on camera that that's the case if you keep looking or am I mean.
I think I -- I'm Don.
A -- I would say we are not the audience that the affordable housing act addresses -- I cannot.
The jury has were not were not what because our probably our earning levels are not admitting to run about that I that I know that we have a -- feel.
Got a net -- -- -- -- you -- could be under water doesn't matter what its value if -- about it when it was for five years ago.
That I do is I'm looking up at the finish it.
Yeah I I think if I again I think you're making assumptions -- because of -- go to the address but we're all Americans we're in this together we don't know we absolutely are all.
Americans but I I think that that they had those that they are trying to -- hit that they -- health -- -- I'm -- the -- housing act.
Is trying to address those edit edit who are are truly under water and I mean I I haven't I haven't talked to any of those people personally so I don't know.
And I actually don't know the complete nitty gritty of the bill.
But I do know is that the campaign has been working -- that the administration rather.
With pushing for a number of different legislation -- legislative measures that -- improved.
That the housing crisis for many and would also need to change the markets in a way that would assist the Stanley.
And again and given our current congress that you know it hasn't been able -- to make any legislation happen again responsible on both sides of the aisle for that.
That has been more of the challenge administrations had to do a lot of these broader sweeping measures that they wanted to do but.
I you know again I think that's where the Obama campaign's gonna come in the collection is saying.
Look we have tried in a lot of different ways and I I think that this is where are in terms of our national conversation -- and how we're working and why these the senate race is going to be one that we have to watch very closely.
Is that it's going to be a question of one of the kinds of candidates to get election elected are they want right that are willing to work across the aisle and work together.
And that's I mean really our congress -- a bigger part of getting these kinds of things happen.
Well -- little interesting with with house speaker John Boehner this week saying line in the sand no war.
It no more even thought.
Thoughts about raising taxes and we --
