An Afghan President Hamid Karzai is showing his gratitude.

Ten American taxpayers giving thanks for their support his heart may be in the right place but with so many people -- -- work in the economy struggling.

It may not have been the most tactful way to put it amongst other things a lot to consider here take a lesson.

Mr.

President I'm bringing to you -- to the people of the United States.

-- -- of the Afghan people for the support that you're taxpayers' money list but this little.

Dictate.

And for the defense that it has made to be -- of them got -- Here at this now key to make Brian at Fox News national security analyst KT you're gut reaction fat achieves.

I wasn't Afghanistan about a year -- -- talked to one of Karzai's top officials.

And he's sad when I said the -- world's getting tired -- the United States is gonna get to the end of its -- we're all going to leave he said.

Who -- as well at least slaughtered if -- leaking.

The bottom line here is it's a real mess.

When we leave Afghanistan is likely to be a civil war Karzai has had ten years and he remains corrupt and incompetent and has failed to unify his people.

We have failed to clean out safe havens of the Taliban in Pakistan so the minute we leave.

And we're not only -- -- the entire western world is tired of this war and wants out what did the money the taxpayer money that he's taking us for yeah actually bias.

Just how much we've spam we probably spent 300 billion we probably in fact to spent twice as much as sat there thirty million people in Afghanistan if you divide that that means we've spent the equivalent.

A 101000 dollars on every man woman and child and Afghanistan a country where the average salary is about 400 dollars a year.

Another way to look at what I -- -- -- gasoline.

-- how much.

Gasoline caused by the time we get it to our troops in Afghanistan you'll never guess so I'll tell you.

400.

Dollars a gallon by the time we take it from the United States ship it across.

It by boat to Pakistan get it into Afghanistan or take it by helicopter.

Or air through -- central Asian republics this is that war that has gone too long has cost too much money.

And has been a failure on the part of our political leaders Republican Democrat Pakistani Afghan.

A few son a little and -- to talk just about the money we will we -- And I hate it it it really hits home doesn't it because you think I was halfway Downey gas worth 400 dollar -- is that really worth it that they think.

Is it worst the American -- that we put -- -- out to -- as well on what it's with the 1840.

Lives have been lost in Afghanistan okay so we're good let's move the story for Oregon there because we don't want to forget the lives but we're gonna have people there.

For years to come we're gonna put money in there -- for years to come maybe.

It's maybe you don't think that's gonna continue I just remember.

Vietnam when we left Vietnam we had a peace agreement much better than we have now with Afghanistan and we had a commitment to give a lot of money to Afghan -- Vietnam going forward.

And we didn't -- it.

Two years later we backed out we didn't have those large appropriations to the Vietnamese government -- the army.

I'm just concerned that an age of austerity you'll become politically very difficult -- Is a solution then instead of pulling everything back because that's been that kind of react I -- is -- some -- did double down.

And say you know what let's -- the money back in there for a short period time.

Put more troops -- the sounds insane more people there analysts this win everything that we can there.

And then leave and not have this extended period as you are we finally -- -- -- Jose -- right now where.

We said we'll have a surge but we're gonna come out of a certain period of time so all the Taliban has to do all of our adversaries -- just -- -- out.

I think you either double down and do it going to Pakistan clean -- the safe havens and come home.

Or you can deal with all the other countries in the region to -- how -- -- together prevent a very destructive civil war.

And the one thing I want to make sure we don't have happen is that the United States has to shoot her way out.

What do you think we've learned from I think we've learned something I learned when I was in the Pentagon in the 1980s.

Which is that we.

Track I draft is on the call the Weinberger doctrine Weinberger principles of war into -- war and less -- in your vital interest and if if you do get any candidate to win it and be prepared to win it and if you're not prepared to win it he shouldn't go there in the first place we -- right to go into Afghanistan and we were right to go after al-Qaeda.

But in December of 2001.

When al-Qaeda was less -- a hundred people.

We -- -- them across the Tora Bora mountains in the Pakistan and finish tomorrow what we do instead.

State in Afghanistan to nation build and we said there are friends that Pakistan -- here's a lot of money why don't you go after the Taliban Pakistan's didn't do it.

And nation building proved impossible and dance and we need to get to -- in this segment we're gonna have to do and the -- especially with the supply routes in the big controversy over that county.

-- -- as -- always thank you very.
