Now -- movie to musical segment for you as the Tony nominated star of goes the music all of buying join Randolph.
-- here to tell us all about her new Broadway musical production with a classic story line.
So welcome when I think you and congratulations.
Thank you -- we're just talking that is you're going to attend -- Tony Awards 3% never as a nominee how does that feel.
Pretty surreal to tell you honestly I'm so says that excited what was your reaction when you first found out.
Shock I think that was the biggest thing I never expected I was just happy to be in a Broadway Show to begin with so then when I found out about that I was -- This is so -- yeah.
Amazing let's talk about -- can expect in this show.
Now what is it very close to the movie.
A lot of -- -- a lot of controversy about in 80% of my surface.
There's a lot of other elements that are being added with the other characters to further story -- com.
And it really nice way I think it's enough of the movie that people will enjoy and yet it's enough.
That it's a musical.
Cars of course as I -- you -- your -- we think the best way to do movie to musical it because.
People come -- with expectation right they have favorite moments right.
So I think we do a really good job of balancing the two and giving justice to obviously the moment the people are gonna want they're gonna want the pottery scene I don't doubt it.
The pottery scene yet and they're going to want you know what -- say the iconic lions in other lines -- -- have as a very iconic.
Com but then there's other things that are.
Quite different and also what is really amazing and I think we might take advantage -- take for granted and -- movies is the idea the special effects yet.
To see it live it's a -- another thing it's like you're watching a magic show is really quite amazing.
And -- one last thing comment 1990.
Definitely how could you imagine that we didn't do.
-- -- -- I'm not possibly.
Good I guess yeah definitely on track yeah -- humility and hit the special effects and what -- like working with an actor that you're not supposed to be able to see.
-- cardinals -- because he's extremely good looking.
So that's number one.
Two it was something that I just had to keep reminding myself and also I think it's a credit to Richard policeman the guy who -- -- He's amazing acting because.
I can in that sense what he's feeling to hearing as opposed to having the luxury.
That most -- have of looking and seeing what a person's face looks like yet so.
It was difficult in the beginning.
But now it's it's like in a way as an actor an amazing new sense that -- developed -- just using.
Hearing it as a way to see where he's coming from.
Yeah and that you mentioned this special effects I'm into it things that people have -- -- -- not seen anything -- now before an -- on -- really have.
Aren't on Broadway or I think -- a lot of stage.
Ever and really -- like.
Here at a magic show it's quite surreal.
And Paul keys is the illusionist and he's done movies like Harry Potter.
And Hugo so he knows what he's doing yeah but.
You know it's it's a big deal by the same time he's so good at what he does that he makes it simple and it.
Or rather -- of -- who understand.
And we drill drill drill drill drill so that we have these so that when we did show we feel comfortable in doing.
Yes of course and -- but polygamy brand.
-- unique character from cinema history having yeah great yeah she really stands out -- -- movie.
Know how did you prep for the role did you talk with.
What people are no I haven't had a chance to meet will be but I'm really looking forward to an opportunity for that to happen.
But -- -- we would still connected because.
When I was prepping for the audition.
At the time I was meaning and so my time we'll split and so what I would do is I would play the movie.
In the home and because most of my lines are directly from the movie I would use it as a way to get off books on the way for the -- -- get -- book.
The -- quite lovely and then the ones I thought I had the role I didn't watch a movie anymore because I knew.
It's she won an Oscar for -- well deserved.
But I knew that people would be looking.
To see you know whether I'm gonna -- a replica or not and I knew that for me personally that would be a big crash and burn.
Because she dated for a reason and for me for found -- -- wrinkle in time you know it's there forever -- -- do your version and then trust that you can do.
And bring something to it it's unique to you.
Yeah what about psychics have you know it and talked to -- anxiety right so.
About I was say the third week into rehearsal.
Much.
I was thinking about it and what happened was was that idea was leaving -- -- rehearsal and it was around.
42 street because he rehearsing at the duke and then this guy you know there's -- panhandlers it to go outside.
And he just gave me a fly here and he was like you need to go see this psychic.
So I was like okay how they do an -- and -- come to me and think we out of out of all the people walking on the street.
I'm -- do it and she was actually really good.
I -- going to be like a bad one isn't what I did was I used her example.
And just the opposite.
Of what to do it.
That actually search today for.
From my where -- -- Yeah -- and tell us your story because the reason that you see graduated from -- -- and you were singing opera is Andrea and then it because you -- encouraged by your roommate -- addition -- -- that for the understudy wrong right.
As I thought it was for the Anderson because a whole plan was I was gonna go to LA.
Because around January and pilot season and so that's like where a lot of the New York actors go.
And try to get pilots new shows so that was a game plan.
And so my roommate propose.
This idea that she its side I noticed on -- -- And I was like blue okay well we'll think about it.
And so then I propose it to.
My agents and they were like you know we think they're going to take someone.
The woman who was doing over in London we think they're gonna also bring her over as well but we'll see -- she's seen because I was just coming out into the scene so that's like.
The best thing to do they can only just seen -- and so when then for the audition.
And then I -- it which was.
Crazy.
Yeah yeah.
And then the rest is history right -- nominated history and so far and we'll see you learn from here that they eat some my team being here you have another little.
