And -- in the group.
Yeah.
-- pay attention there's a major change in medical advice for men of any age from a federal panel.
It says healthy men should no longer undergo routine screening for prostate cancer.
It says the PSA blood tests can actually do more harm than good.
Is that true let's go to our Fox News health medical -- team doctor David somebody.
He's chief of robotics and middle minimally invasive surgery at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York city's one of the nation's experts.
In prostate cancer treatment doctor somebody I know -- at a conference right now where this federal recommendation is under discussion.
What are the doctors around you say.
Well John this is really -- big news and it's a very very aggressive recommendation by the US task force.
I reporting from Atlanta right now where you have over 50000 urologist from all over the world attending a big conference.
American neurological association and when this news broke over here.
People are really reacting not in a great way we know that this is it is not that very responsible recommendation.
And as a urologists I can tell you -- to say that no -- should get tested this is not only irresponsible it's going to jeopardize a lot of men's lives.
We know that PSA in the last two decades has absolutely reduce the risk of mortality by 40%.
And ended the fact that there's no other tests and this is the only test that we have had to say you know to put our head in the sand.
I'm not get tested this is really going to change the way to practice medicine.
And it's going to jeopardize a lot of men's lives now we also know that PSA stands -- prostate specific antigen.
Not prostate cancer specific antigen.
So not every elevated PSA news biopsy and then I'm not every positive -- it means surgery and radiation.
And it big message to a lot of men that are watching is to find the experts in prostate cancer and make -- you get a second opinion.
I'm not just go around and not get tested I think this is a very very dangerous recommendation by the US -- Over Seattle US preventive services task forces the group that is making this recommendation let me try to summarize some of their justifications here they're saying one I'm sorry five.
In every 1000 men over the course of ten years will die of prostate cancer if there is no screening no tests no nothing.
But they say that.
Two will die or have a heart attack or stroke.
If they get that cancer treatment excuse me review resulting.
From the cancer treatment.
And that others thirty to forty others will experience.
Treatments caused impotence.
Or incontinence.
-- respond to those statistics.
What we need to know is that prostate cancer is a spectrum of many how many diseases.
There are so low but I risk prostate cancer that may or may not need to treatment.
But they're also very aggressive prostate cancers in my own practice -- see a lot of young guys in their forties -- fifties.
That's coming to -- -- cancers and they will die now.
This study only talks about death and it comes -- almost the European studies.
You don't talk about the fact the prostate cancer can actually metastasized or spread.
And affect their quality of life which is it you know a horrible way to go so my answer to this is that you know if everybody -- who take care of would be confident.
And they would have good sexual function.
Know what we nobody would be complaining because -- -- series out what we need to do is to concentrate on better surgeons have better techniques.
To make -- of life better not to get tested.
Also what's important is really what you do we -- test.
You know the experts have prostate cancer know how to really.
It manages.
On how to really tell the -- is what to do.
There's speed up the PSA velocity of this is what we've -- for I think there's a lot that goes into -- John.
Besides -- like don't get tested now so don't have another test this is that what this same thing happened -- women a mammogram.
Our news women reacted to this so we really need men to really understand how this is going to affect their life.
-- how this is going to really change the way they gave it.
So men should ask their doctors and not necessarily take the advice of this federal panel doctor David somebody need to do it.
Did what they need to do is to really get a second opinion.
-- -- about an hour there's going to be a lot of information on robotic oncology dot com.
Four people there -- really EC for more information about now you say a prostate cancer that's good to know doctor -- money thank you don't.
Well that's -- -- Catholic.
