The -- is there.
If you those folks are running for president they do not believe that there experience and in in their line of work.
Qualifies them to.
Sydney Oval Office and and be commander in chief and and make the kinds of decisions on the economy that a president must make.
That was white house Press Secretary Jay Carney arguing that Mitt Romney's business experience family doesn't qualify him to be president but maybe.
Be a little bit of a problem and that certainly the central argument.
From the Obama campaign and the Obama Democrats as they tried to turn Mitt Romney's best asset his private sector success.
Into his biggest liability.
Welcome back power -- and guess what.
We've never really had a businessman president in the United States we've had several -- About the closest that you couldn't you can -- probably you can stretch all the way back George Washington was certainly good businessman.
And we had guys who had business careers briefly but really close she can come Harry Truman -- haberdasher in Kansas City and chemical it was a vice president -- -- but since then it's been public servants mostly.
Or entirely -- risen to the presidency of the United States.
Show is now the time that America's ready to have a businessman president.
As Mitt Romney sure would like to be the guy Charlie hurt from The Washington Times will help us talk about that and please welcome to the show for the very first time together again for the very first time Charlie hurt and Christopher condi is a Democrat is a Fox News contributor if you watch him on television welcome to Internet television hey it's great feedback.
Here's the question.
And I'll start with you Chris can.
Mitt Romney make a case that nobody's made before that it's time to have a businessman.
Run and -- as CEO of the government.
Well you know boil it down the experience argument almost never works in presidential campaigns it didn't work for -- George -- Herbert walker bush.
Bill Clinton it didn't work it it didn't work for -- against Reagan.
It doesn't work if it worked for John Kerry against George W.
The experience argument is a very difficult argument to make if people don't -- Tend to believe it his business experience is going to be essential part of his campaign because he doesn't want to run on his record as governor of Massachusetts.
Where he governed to the left the President Obama let's face it.
There'd be no obamacare without Romney care and his job creation record and as governor masters at 48 in the nation.
So what is he going to say clearly the business -- experience didn't help him govern Massachusetts I don't see how it's gonna help him govern this country not the American people are gonna buy.
Now Charlie you can see.
You can see it looming Republicans can see it looming out on the horizon the Obama campaign to try to soften Romney up on the business stuff and then the -- will turn at some point later this year and the Massachusetts record will come forward now while -- can say.
That he had compared to others a successful tenure as governor of Massachusetts.
As Rick Perry and others demonstrated during the Republican nominating process there's some unhappy statistics that you can put out there.
Is this will this work for Democrats to lay down a predicate of throwing into doubt his record as a businessman so that you -- -- knocking down in Massachusetts.
Well you -- -- I think makes it emitted very eloquent.
Point about all that.
But today it's a lot harder for campaign like.
Like an Obama campaign to actually make.
You know an official.
Ads or whatever trying to say oh -- look -- even more liberal lion it does it doesn't really work very well.
But I think more than anything the biggest reason why.
Mitt Romney wants to run is it.
Is as a businessman as opposed to a politician is that people are pretty.
The people pretty fed up with politics at every single level.
And so you know it's a good point that that you -- for about that but it but I I think more than anything.
Mitt Romney's -- here is to run and semis and outsider as somebody who's gonna come in and kick some butt.
Carl and get -- in dump some people -- -- -- out you know the the problem is the American people will never believe that somebody who has achieved the nomination of a major party is not a politician.
So he can run and say he's not a politician all he wants.
Maybe that lot of work in 1994.
The first time he ran for senate that's a long time ago now but if it -- It'll work out that you've been running for president he's been a politician if you just take it experience similarly Newt Gingrich right.
I don't think it makes it very interesting points about -- right.
I'm short -- he said interest yeah.
But but but I also think -- I also think that that do that so many of those Republicans.
That supported -- supported you know it -- that every everybody but probably.
During that long.
I do think that there you know that there dislike of Obama and there.
Honestly -- -- fear about their current situation with the economy and and with the politics.
Will sort of make -- happily gloss over there whatever reservations ahead.
Well we'll see I mean right now there's been -- relatively few facts about what's actually happened the last three in a happier presented in this campaign season.
I think now the president is gearing up his campaign and really campaigning in earnest.
You'll see some more alternative -- -- -- what we heard on the debate stage during the Republican primaries.
And I don't think the fear is gonna really be there and that's -- we're gonna also talk about Mitt Romney and his record.
And his plans and -- past performance and that might creeped out when you're talking about.
On electing an incumbent president.
You have to show beyond a reasonable doubt that you -- the guy -- when you look at the economic statistics right now this president should be gone but he's not.
And the reason for that is because it's very hard to -- elect a president -- incumbent president and I don't know that -- -- -- etc.
We got we got to leave it there we thank you very much for joining us see you have the gratitude of the Internet have a great day thanks guys.
Okay now Charlie hurt I want you to know what you're struggling said about you Charles -- is awesome.
I loved -- I'm just kidding if and I wanted to know that it's okay I believe in Santa to.
Yes yes yes you do that process -- -- life but and lots of good chat today and -- -- talks about the what what did my column today and asked this question how can Romney be beholden to his base and have -- problems at the same time.
Now he can't so that's that's that's a good point I know Charles today but I know for a fact having heard it from -- -- himself -- is on the panel tonight he will bestow wisdom upon us all tomorrow.
And I'm sorry for the Charles drought we've given you another Charles -- his place today but I know what's different it's no substitute but we thank you for being with this brother Kurt.
