159 days left until the presidential election.
And one of the things Mitt Romney we'll have to do according to many analysts is trying to make voters comfortable with his history his personality.
And his state.
My colleague Bill Hemmer talked with governor Romney and his wife about those things Monday.
In 2008 then candidate Barack Obama.
Held a series of events.
Where he made big speeches senator around race in America religion in America.
And he was able to draw used those events that draw a lot of attention to this message to have you given consideration to doing that about your own -- Well.
Like -- give major speeches on topics of significance and have about once a week or once every two weeks for the last a couple of months and we'll continue doing so.
Asked as regards their religion in America I gave a speech in that topic -- in my last campaign.
At the George Herbert Walker Bush library.
I don't know that I would add to that board or -- -- in some way that I take it nothing is planned or nothing scheduled.
But despite that what do Americans need to understand about how important your faith is to you.
Well I think people who are people of faith believes that there's a purpose greater than themselves.
-- and for me -- there's no question I believe.
And a and a heavenly father I believe and his son Jesus Christ I believe in the holy ghost.
These are.
Features that I think are are part of many people's faith in this country other folks have differing views.
That shapes my view I read the new testament and other scriptures that are holy in my view that -- my sense of commitment to my nation.
And taught to be patriotic and support the nation to follow the law I'm also taught to care and serve other people.
A lot is made of your relationship with your father not a lot has been said about your mom you -- -- she had three kids.
And the doctors came to her and said no more physically it's not going to happen ever again.
And along comes you not exactly and -- -- -- you know.
She had an -- And it's not absolutely.
Adored minute it was the baby she never thought she would have and I've heard about the relationship but the point is he wasn't even supposed to be here that's thank -- Yeah.
-- -- say what I staff I think my mother found it hard when I felt completely -- them.
As a senior in high school -- and I have no interest in talking to my brother and only interest -- being what I am patent -- effectively.
Now let's say if you tell -- -- handled it as as those you I think a lot of.
Mothers go through that you said -- you've never had a serious argument had.
And 43 years -- -- like that but other places we agree or disagree of course where there are places where we disagree but we don't yell when testing labs or okay but on the surface ships continue to believe that.
-- -- -- -- -- -- But -- is.
When it comes to policy or issues.
-- their disagreement.
Well I don't think wherever exactly on the same pay a 100% budget they want -- -- I'm not going to name one.
-- I don't think that's important I'm not one running for president this guy is and I completely support.
90%.
How important it is there's a possibility as we sit here today you can be in the White House and eight months.
We talked about that.
Yeah we've spoken about that we've thought about okay what happens in that circumstance and are we prepared for that what kinds of things -- -- focus on.
Which things what I do we talk about our life would change but my guess is it's almost impossible to imagine how your life we change in that circumstance.
I believe if Mitt wins the country when Smith listens -- country -- I really believe that I think that we are at a dividing.
A real fork in the road as to which direction this country and go and and I I really believe that there's a sense in the country that we are in danger.
And that we have got to turn this country around.
