All right -- federal health officials trying to crack down on the source of a deadly strain of E.
Coli that spreading across several southern states.
They say killed a toddler in Louisiana last week and -- -- -- at the centers for disease control and prevention of confirmed at least thirteen other cases across five other states.
Most of those cases in Georgia where the CDC is located.
The others reported in Alabama California Florida and Tennessee.
Health officials say this particular -- produces a deadly toxin that can damage the kidneys.
And so far investigators have not been able to Trace the straight to a particular source like food.
Let's bring in doctor William -- he's with us this afternoon from Vanderbilt University.

Hello Shepperd good to be -- we hear a lot of this E.
-- talk from time to time when kids start dying it's very serious.
Yeah it truly is and this is clearly an outbreak and it's getting the full court press both from the CDC and all those state health department's.
To find the cause just as quickly as possible.
And to cut it off so we don't get any more cases it's it's a mighty big world across six states -- begin that process.
Well the CDC coordinates it.
And all the folks in the public health departments in those states work together.
Interview the cases interview other people who were close to them who didn't get sick and try to compare.
What it is they either didn't -- to give them a clue about what the sources because it is more likely than not.
-- something they -- -- an -- and it's something to kids have been -- obviously so if you're a mom or dad in one of those states are nearby what did you do.
Well a couple things one wash your hands be careful of food preparation.
This weekend on a Barbeque barbecued those and in grill those hamburgers all the way through.
And then should there be dire real disease go to your doctor get it checked out and remind them of this outbreak and asked for culture a stool culture.
