Let's talk about the debate over public workers' unions it's now in the spotlight after Wisconsin governor Scott Walker's recall election victory.

And today on FOX News Sunday Republican Indiana governor Mitch Daniels said.

There is a place for unions in the private sector but organized labor and government should not -- There is -- I think a fundamental problem.

With government becoming its own special interest group force -- Recycled in the politics to elect from compliance and friendly politicians -- an unending circle and ultimately.

There is not really -- bargaining in those situations because government sits on on both sides of the table.

Joining me now as he does every Sunday morning the anchor FOX News Sunday Chris Wallace Chris great to see you.

Good to be -- Jamie does the governor make the case.

Well he's -- A dad makes his case very strongly -- and I I was surprised because.

You know he's been one of the guys long before Scott Walker ever took -- -- starting in 2000 by his first day in office.

Mitch Daniels eliminated the collective bargaining rights for state workers and he's done a series of -- since -- And as he was -- -- -- as I said are you saying that you don't think that there should be public worker unions and he said yeah that's exactly what I'm -- and his basic point.

His basic point is that you you get the public workers.

A year and their unions and they help elect people cop who then are beholden to the unions and they're negotiating -- them for their benefits and that's why says that -- setting.

On both sides of the table now we also spoke with two top union leaders ahead of -- National Education Association.

The biggest union in the country it's obviously the teacher's union as well as the top official.

Of the AF of LC IO.

And they say look these public workers do an awful lot they provide great services and you don't balance budgets on their backs.

You know obviously you're -- people are gonna have different sets of opinions I said but you know that -- one of the cases I guess I -- with them -- the for all the talk about Wisconsin's San Jose California the democratic mayor of San Jose California Jamie.

Supported a worker -- voter initiative they voted to cut.

Government worker pensions because they couldn't keep all their fire houses open all the time they had to close them on a rotating basis they had built four new library is.

And they couldn't open them because I didn't have the money to operate them as a lot about that in a way to get the revenue.

And and did that -- lady -- the deputy chief of staff the end of the bell said.

Raise taxes on the wealthy.

You know I don't want you to give away the whole show.

But it's great that you're -- I don't fired up it was a good shot and I totally agree I think it's so interesting that governor Daniels took the approach he did in his state and then we saw the -- called victory.

For Governor Walker do you think before our we wrapped.

Other states will have to take that approach as they -- -- bankruptcy.

Well that that's the point it is -- -- a matter of politics so let's go after the unions it may have that effect.

We had the problem is.

And this is something I learned -- taken preparing for this state governments 01.

Trillion dollars one trillion dollars to public pension funds and and health care.

Obligations through so you know at a time when -- because of the economy.

Their budgets are getting squeezed they can't keep fire houses up and I can't open libraries.

And -- 01 trillion dollars in these obligations.

Yeah -- something's gotta give.

Now at some point you gotta balance your budgets have we aren't home certainly aren't Chris great to see you have a wonderful Sunday and it sounds like an awesome show.
