Doctor David somebody is here to the vice chairman of the department of urology cheaper robotics at the Mount Sinai Medical Center with awesome topics today after.

But more doctors were morning great to have you here.

-- first let's start with this is new hope for millions of patients because federal regulators are speeding up the approval of new experimental cancer drugs.

Including some for breast cancer doctor Siegel let's let you comment on this 11.

Well I'm very excited about this because usually takes about twelve to fifteen years and I mean -- -- for new drug to get approved.

A billion dollars for the drug by the time it's out in May actually be obsolete.

But what's actually happening now is we're entering a brave new world of cancer treatment because in the past we used to try to poison the cancer.

But that as -- -- in the cancer we would end up poisoning our own rapidly growing cells.

Now we're doing something called targeted therapy will we notice -- genetic difference.

We device and drug for that genetic difference for the abnormal protein and we targeted.

Or we -- -- our own immune system to attack the cancer.

This is such exciting line of treatment.

That we gotta get out there earlier in the FDA's noticing that in certain aggressive cancers -- breast cancer we called them triple negative they don't respond to estrogen they don't respond to progesterone.

They don't respond to herself in which is another exciting new drug triple negatives are very aggressive we may want to treat before we even operate on the patient.

And in order to do that we need fast track approval some very excited about this.

Curious -- somebody that's why they call -- targeted therapy that's what you described is there money for this though to.

Get these drugs through if a number of times are fast tracked.

And -- -- be affordable for patient.

Yes it will be and I think -- one of the reasons why the cost of these medications have been astronomical is because of what mark just mention.

The years that goes into that is the investment of the companies are put into it.

Billions of dollars before they actually seen -- that are so I think this is a great news for a lot of patients with cancer out there.

The fact that this was a bipartisan approval of -- the senate.

And it's it just happened in May have -- back to new guidelines are going to be new and internal medicine.

This is a great news.

The truth is that FDA has to look for safety and efficacy of these medications and they look at the magnitude.

A hug great these are what do you look for what they call survival benefit.

Is this medication going to make people live longer or the side effects are more so that's the process and we always looked at but now through this new guidelines.

A lot of great medications and also smaller companies that have like great innovation.

Is going to come out and brings us the truth is that medicine is changing and and mark he's absolutely right in prostate cancer and to feel that I work went.

We're using immune system of your body to fight the cancer so -- -- breast cancer all these new target therapies Smart drugs.

They need to come out and -- need to what's we're faster pipeline and can get rid of all the roadblocks.

Great news it is.

It's thousands constantly get the moment when going Dawkins I want to slowly got about twenty to thirty new ones coming out this year more this year than ever before and then as David -- happening now.

Happy right now and then there's something called progress for survival you wanna make sure that the tumor is not getting worse when you're -- treatment for and it and the use of -- there was a lot of reports of the shortage of of these cancer medication is even we reported on this no -- remember that guy has raised a lot of red flags and this is the good result that's that's gonna miss it that's great news is great news we're doing right now the FAA doing our job.
