We are your election headquarters here at Fox News Channel and today we hear -- -- the top democratic strategists sounding the alarm.
Saying the president's economic message is out of touch with voters.
And could spell real trouble for mr.
Obama's reelection chances.
A memo from democracy -- -- research group headed by among others a guy who helped get Bill Clinton elected James Carville.
Reads we will face -- impossible headwind in November if we do not move to a new narrative one that contextualize.
As the recovery.
But more importantly focuses on what we will do better to make a better.
-- certain what we will do to make a better future for the middle class they know we are in a new normal where life is a struggle.
And convincing them that things are good enough for those who have found jobs.
Is a fool's errand.
Karl Rove is a former senior advisor and deputy chief of staff to president George W.
Bush he's also a Fox News contributor.
What do you think about James Carl's advice there -- Well.
I thought it was interesting let's let's put this in context the presidents team is following basically a you know 88888.
A message that has two elements to one is things are getting better and the steps we took our -- -- -- get better and the second one is.
You can't press -- -- Mitt Romney because he is looted and pillaged companies when he was -- -- can when he was a private equity guy.
What Carville and Greenberger -- -- drop them but the emphasis on your performance Mr.
President and instead say.
Look I realize things are really really tough and here's what I'm gonna do in the future to make them less tough.
And -- incidentally Mitt Romney is out of touch because and they tested three different messages.
And the one that Carville -- and Greenberg think works best is to accuse Romney of wanting to.
And Medicaid and Medicare and Medicaid and cancel security.
To eliminate teachers firemen and policemen at the local level and to -- to change meant to get it to cut Medicaid deeply I mean.
-- -- there's a difference of nuance here but but but they both have you know the same message which is you know.
Got Romney and and try and find some way to explain yourself out of the bad economic condition wherein the president is a super.
To effectuate change will vote.
-- is -- to it.
Well that's the big question election and what an inland at the point of the democracy corps memo which is worth read it's on -- available on line.
Is to say to the president don't be just sand things are getting better tell us what the heck it is you're gonna do now this advice also came to the president earlier this year.
From Rahm Emanuel the mayor of Chicago and his former chief of staff who -- it's not just simply enough to blame you know other people for the difficulty jury had.
And tell people what you've done.
We've got people got to tell people what it is you're gonna do for them in the future.
Or what about isn't just -- the same president those who -- on national television in 2009.
That -- if the things don't improve in the economy he'll be a one term president.
Yeah well I that's right in fact look he's got a couple of things he's going up against one is you're right he said we get and we've get better and he made a series of specific promises.
For example -- set on January chance of 2009.
If you know exactly if you -- to know exactly what's gonna happen if we pass a stimulus take a look at this report from injured birds feeding Christine Romer to my staffers on my incoming White House staff.
If projected that unemployment today would be five point 7%.
You know -- said if we spend this trillion dollars it's gonna give a big jump start to the economy we got the most anemic recovery of any of the ten recessions since World War II.
But we are about 4500 dollars per capita GDP below where we'd be if we had an average -- average recovery and we got about thirteen million fewer people working.
And then you know just the reality of where we are I mean -- one out of every six Americans is unemployed working part time but desperately trying to get full time work.
Or so discouraged that they dropped out of the workforce and we all know some of those people you know their friends or family their neighbors are.
Former business colleagues I mean we know we know people who find themselves in that situation.
So it's hard for the president to run against the reality and say you know I've done my best and you know be satisfied with what you got -- Karl Rove Karl thank you.
