-- -- -- This -- Republican Democrat independent nation.
This is an issue that we need to have fair elections in our state I want to make sure that we have elections your vote.
Not one person's vote gets diluted by some made it doesn't have a right to vote.
That was Florida governor Rick Scott -- Republican talking to my friend and colleague Neil Cavuto -- -- big show on Fox News Channel yesterday.
Defending his effort his administration's effort to purged the voter rolls down in Florida.
Of people who may be.
Dead.
Or may not be US citizens and therefore ineligible to vote.
And I and Chris firewall this is power play and -- minute.
Welcome thank you for being with us today.
And here's something I can say with little fear.
A correction.
Attorney general Eric Holder does not mind a little controversy.
Even as he was in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee defending himself from a barrage.
Of questioning from senate Republicans about his role as it relates to an investigation of high level national security leaks to a botched gun running staying in the southwest.
And other issues his -- his department was getting ready to file suit against Florida to block this law and -- you know this Florida kind of important for the election.
So let's talk about that.
And bunch of other things with our friends welcome back to our friends.
You know Garland Nixon he's a radio show host he's gonna show here in DC and -- PFW.
One and I think -- -- a preset.
On my.
Car radio I yes I still have a radio in my car.
And Jonathan Colette yeah he's the director of communications for American crossroads.
Bad manage him all of the conservative -- accurate yeah.
Welcome gentlemen -- OK so.
Let's start with you Garland.
Eric Holder yesterday seemed for a minute like he was striking a conciliatory tone with Republicans as it relates to these -- as yet unreleased documents about fast and furious investigation.
And no sooner had he gotten out of the building essentially that the lawsuit against Florida and its voter purge.
Law is out.
Is -- holder sort of thumbing his nose at the Republicans here.
No I think he's doing what he feels that he has to do I think this is very important for the Democrats in Florida there's certainly Democrat.
Demographic there that could make a difference between the entire election so I think.
He has to separate.
You know -- little wars with the Republicans -- fast and furious and all the media stuff with things that have to be done that kind of you know take your business.
The Jonathan that.
Issue down there is this -- And we should point out.
I'm sure that attorney general holder feels that this is about the moral thing to do and -- about voter suppression he is right now engaged in legal action against about a third of the states in the union as it relates to voter identification and other these kinds of -- I'm sure that he believes the truth but in Florida it matters extra.
There are 2600 individuals that the the executive branch in Florida has identified as possibly not living or possibly not citizens there -- their cross referencing them with the county roles they've found a handful that are people who were like I'm not not only am I alive -- a citizen but I was born here and fought in World War II.
Democrats are making hay with it.
But we are talking about I wrote this in the power play today five times the number of individuals -- decided the 2000 race in Florida so this is a potentially big.
Is is very real philosophical debate.
On the one hand Republicans saying voter fraud is very real problem and up to 400000.
People were illegally registered to vote in -- 2008 by -- court.
And -- wanna fix that problem and on the other hand you have to question whether or not this is as the civil rights violation.
What makes it dynamite is proximity to the election and the fact that it's Florida this is not nearly as big of a case.
In Texas because they know that did that -- -- the -- party presidential.
Texas will be decided by me.
Wondered -- his driver to Florida may not and that's with the that's what created.
Greg Chang who is a bit of -- says that headline Obama courts -- vote in key battleground state will participate in Key West -- -- ceremony.
Does shame on Greg that's very mean but funny.
The question for you Garland is.
Win that the Democrats look at Florida didn't direct the directional wind has not been great for the blue team in Florida 2010 certainly snapped -- right.
Rick -- stumbled a little out of the gate.
But was able to hold -- is there and it's -- Larry political benefit for Democrats in this by.
Making stopped and an issue again and bringing him back into the foreign making him controversies.
-- well I you know I really don't think so what do you think as far as the play out the way it doesn't just in the -- that does not the most popular person in Florida hasn't been for a -- but I do you think what's going on here is that it's being really it's clear by the just listen to our discussion.
Right what we're talking about here.
Is numbers we're talking about a Republican a Republican legislature -- legislator.
Any Republican legislature.
That enacted rules that will really -- -- it.
The Republican Party.
So clearly.
Doesn't -- status -- benefit the Democratic Party.
And if there are a name.
Out of these 1600 they found a handful -- that aren't but the vast majority so far are these are of the vast majority that have been that -- suss out so far shouldn't be about.
Well so then what we need to talk about a real discussion of the discussion is is this really.
About making sure that people can or can't vote based on their citizenship or is this a battle between two parties over who can get what vote which I think is the -- What we do here -- that's -- that's actually the -- -- literally every conversation.
No sir without having anything else and this is about the votes this about when you get down to it and as I said beginning -- -- Jonathan that the attorney general feels and his horror that Jim Crow could creep back and that this is all part of a minority vote -- and I'm sure that he believes that the but letting all of that aside we are talking about raw numbers and we get down to it other states -- have.
These.
Among swing states Virginia Wisconsin and other places where the Justice Department is either engaged or looking very closely.
At these laws.
Is there it.
What's your forecast for how this plays out between -- -- The first thing I also think that there is -- sincerity of on the part of Rick Scott surely other Republican governors who believe that there is an issue would go to Bradley how do you know like it.
How do you how do you go about fixing this problem is -- is a problem.
There -- -- you know that there could be and anyway we we we all I don't understand that there is goodness if you let us stipulate -- do what where we don't know it just.
Yeah we really didn't -- the different areas and understand -- -- -- -- -- rewrite at the end where it's really -- it's like we have these redistricting -- they always put the hyper partisans in the British and those who they know.
There when it comes to drawing boundaries are determining who's -- who's gonna who's going to be voting.
Those -- the partisan as we want the guys that fight with knives to really really get down.
Conservative Party well and that's what this is really becoming an issue now is sort of -- in -- -- I may I ask you Internet what do you think.
Do you think that this is since he sincerely held belief or is this just as I'm cynically holding about how -- the numbers.
A good way for you to tell me is that you follow me on Twitter at -- -- -- I you can follow me there you can have the power play each and every morning that I write for you and then you can join the fun here like these like these camps on here says Yvonne Beasley holder equals the big bad wolf on the Huff and puff and blow.
Your house in final word on this guy's.
When we get down to November.
Florida.
If it is contested.
This is not this this opens up the possibility for some theory -- -- feelings if we had another very close race in Florida this could be a big problem right.
It definitely but I think you know from our perspective we're looking at the we're looking at Supreme Court thinking well you know we'd better -- in Florida pretty well.
Otherwise we're.
Out of luck duly noted did everything there is that it did this purge -- registered voters isn't just like to go through throwing things out there David peoples sixty days to prove they're citizens is it's not like there's there's no protections against and then you can come back if -- -- you you can come back duly -- okay.
Will give the last word to.
-- strife.
Which I guess you you're you're into partisanship says -- if your name is Max writes my question is do Democrats think it's okay -- dead people and illegal -- -- if not want to try this legislation.
I think Colin already answered your question for you Max right.
