Right it's been nearly twenty years do you believe that since presidents George H.

W.

Bush left office he never wrote an official memoir.

But -- after celebrating his 88 birthday he sharing some of his very personal stories on the book.

But in his own words.

Can't do -- sports lived my whole life doing.

Nobody asked me to be on the team anymore than we're used to stand around -- you -- know -- you that she did it take you.

Do you have standing nobody wants me.

Because I can't move -- -- this is a metaphor but but.

I miss it boats.

I'm still in the game and now I'm privileged have a very fast very powerful.

Every -- to go on it.

It's a wonderful wonderful well let -- Well that clip part of a new documentary 41 that airs tonight on HBO the film's director Jeffrey rock.

He's my guest this morning good morning to -- for a while that's a that's a pretty deep metaphor for life I guess he's talking about.

As he progresses in speech he loses the ability to do certain things but when he's on a boat what he does and.

And I think when more fascinating things about the film is that.

You know we're dealing with the person who it and it doesn't want to talk about self.

So because of that and the way he's.

Gets around.

It's like finding a moving target.

And so instead of you know from filmmaker's point of view you like to get this done in -- all -- once but it took the course of seventeen months.

And because of that it was allowed to -- and so something unique happened along the way in the way he was aging.

In that you see him at the beginning of the film so walking around McCain and kind of hobbling but at the end or back at the white house with him he comes back and it in -- wheelchair and.

See you really do see this progression of age with the president that kind of fascinating though that you chose to still do it in first person because you interviewed other people like President Clinton.

And even though President Bush is a man of few words why was it's so important to have him beaten solo voice.

Well I think that you can pick up any dvd -- the any program about any president political people and they throw everybody in there and well we have the opportunity to have him.

And why not let him tell him in his words -- from such a unique Chris thanks it's a unique I wanna show another clip because he rarely says anything.

Bad about anybody but in this particular -- see what you think you thinks about Ross -- -- -- -- losing to Bill Clinton.

Clinton did a great job of campaigning on.

That I didn't get it out of out of touch and on that I know I sound like I'm bashing the press.

But there were almost unanimity in the press corps that passionately -- And that they were for him and that makes a huge difference.

Yeah.

We're.

No can't talk about it.

And because many election I don't like him.

While were you surprised you're asking the question there were you surprised -- that response was disease starts off listening I can't talk about -- end -- He says it.

It's basically says everything.

You know that he really was upset with him with that one of the most poignant times in the interview for you I think it was because it you.

Even though -- short and there was a couple sentences it was a raw emotion from.

And same thing about this film is that you were surprised that he actually agreed to do it right.

Well yes our first film was the wonder of the all about the Apollo -- -- walked on the moon and we had met him they have hosted a screening in College Station.

With eight Apollo astronauts and we -- out -- there think we'll never see him again in our life but we were invited up to Maine he really enjoyed the film.

And -- when we're trying to figure -- wanted to do next and we thought he had very fascinating story to tell.

And so of course.

We asked and but we were told that you know.

No he won't do it.

But the very simply -- received an email back that says he's intrigued.

And next thing we knew six weeks later we started shooting.

Well it's fascinating look at sent president HW.

His life HW bush George H.

W.

Bush 41.

It simply entitled and it's tonight on HBO can catch at 9 PM.

Eastern time Jeffrey rockets attraction thanks so much good.
