Fox News investigation into the massacre at Fort Hood Fox News found multiple email exchanges.

Between the accused shooter Nidal Hasan in the now dead American cleric Anwar Al -- and for the first time some of the victims are going public.

And wondering how this could be classified as a workplace shooting.

November 5 2000.

After being shot by fellow soldier and Nadal Hasan.

-- George Stratton staff sergeant -- Manning had only one thought how -- with escape alive.

As soon as I got out the first set of doors I have my means but still the door open learning my way out when I got up to my feet sort of walking off -- -- quarter million.

Then some Democrats who has come around the corner of events she didn't kill people I just sat there -- hopeless hopeless.

Waiting for this person to come -- and finish the job and members you know wrapping it in shooting as fast as he possibly shoot a member of -- hit a tactical -- on the bottom of this weapon and what would that do for him.

Make -- he's here to it came and hit targets that you're shooting them the first shot hit me right here -- that the left chest at close to the -- -- That was the first round so.

I'm guessing -- -- it had to miss my heart I mean it's -- here can.

That's a miracle.

Now.

A lot more on that later this evening Peter Brookes former CIA officer and senior fellow national security affairs Heritage Foundation.

And -- Mac -- a former federal prosecutor criminal defense attorney good morning to both of you.

Peter there -- red flags -- popped up everywhere.

Well what why did because this is -- I did this system -- these people.

Well you know that it did -- that there was some information sharing problems.

We also have to understand that this was that they were using good al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula on while -- -- who was behind inspired this attack.

Was using really good operational techniques.

He was using the Internet.

He was able to contact.

The major in the United States he used a number of different email addresses.

You know the operated the obviously the intent was deplorable but the operational techniques.

Were actually quite good so this was tough but I worry about the the questions of information sharing.

Among the analysts were looking at this about at this problem and of course and ended up at this terrible tragedy.

The victims told us they want to speak out because.

They're afraid it could happen again.

They believe there are systemic issues within the military that I'm not -- been addressed fairly in the last two and a half years are they right Peter.

Well my concern is that this is that there is some political correctness going on here.

In my view this was a religiously motivated terrorist attack inspired al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.

And then my concern is that we don't we overlook some of these issues here issues -- political correctness and not get that the real issue here and take people out of potentially potential.

Terrorists.

Out of you know out of action so yeah that's a real that's a real concern here we can't let political correctness get in the way of things that might end up in this same sort of -- -- -- had at Fort -- -- you're gonna -- in the show later tonight leading US senators believe it was exactly that.

And you have to name it before you confided that hasn't been done here and -- there's a hearing next week.

The defense is really trying to push this trial off more and more it may not even begin.

Until the fall or even beyond which -- -- three years since the shooting workplace violence is how was classified by the Department of Defense why would they listed them.

Again I think this is an issue of the -- partially political -- -- and partially I think -- to -- too.

Be able to -- say well you know it wasn't really terrorist attack the only terrorist attack we had.

Was at 9/11 and and -- it kind of -- current administration off the hook here.

It and you look at -- save yourself.

This was a systemic problem the -- law enforcement folks.

The military folks they had noticed they knew they had a guy who was the major in the military who was having email conversations.

Apparently before it even.

The attack without -- And they apparently knew about that and they did not thing.

They said well you know it's just he's a psychiatrists it's a medical research mean if he's having contact one on one with Al locking.

Why weren't they monitoring that and why weren't they working -- that they have somebody who could work as an informant if that's how they looked at the guy they -- treated him aside and work with him I mean it's just outrageous.

And it goes and I -- -- -- look here's what you'll find that this man was promoted time and time again for more than twenty years and was never good doctor soldier in the first place.

And your heart really goes out to the victims accidentally they are really struggling with this every and it could have been prevented if that's the big thing here they handling it added it would prevent thank you for your time and Peter thanks for your your time as well you all the spots files.

The enemy within airs later tonight on the Fox News Channel.
