Walking a little happier today after he raked in some big bucks last night during a star studded campaign fund raiser.
In New York City actually they were -- events and they reportedly -- him about four and a half million bucks for his campaign.
Among the who's who of attendees.
Actress Sarah Jessica Parker she actually -- when the events at her home.
Legendary singer Aretha Franklin Oscar winner Meryl Streep.
And -- editor Anna wintour.
The one who wears Prada with based on according to the Associated Press the president told them that they will play.
A critical role in the election.
That will determine.
A vision for our nation's future saying quote you are the tiebreaker.
You are the ultimate arbiter of which direction this country goes.
Is that the message this campaign really wants to send.
Joining us now Chris -- while our Fox -- digital politics editor host of power plant foxnews.com.
The thing is Chris it's fine to say that to the American people to a group of Democrats to a group of voters.
But does the president really wanna be on record as having said it to Ana -- or I mean that's the Merrill Streep character.
In devil wears Prada you know what that.
Now that's all.
Is that the first that this election banks -- she's the future.
Well you know we've talked about before -- from the president's point of view he's absolutely right he is as they have -- expensive very complicated.
Large scale reelection effort and he needs their money.
A lot he needs a lot of their money and especially in the entertainment industry with these folks the president to pay the huge overhead that he has for his very.
Very ambitious reelection campaign he hopes they will be the decider he hopes that -- millions of dollars in contributions tens of millions hundreds of millions of dollars in contributions.
Are going to be the thing that that lets him get past Mitt Romney and into a second term.
Is there danger to him I mean every week now we have a new report of the president.
Rubbing elbows with these celebrities the George Clooney fund raiser now he's at the homeless or just -- Jessica Parker.
You know at Merrill Streep which is interesting that Merrill Streep and Anna wintour where -- -- right because Merrill street played.
In a winter is you -- character of loosely based on her in devil -- product but that's an aside is there yeah sure -- have in spending so much time with -- They are Hollywood elite I don't think the average American can relate to them and is sending a message to -- that today that they -- the ultimate arbiter of America's direction.
Well it certainly goes to an argument the Republicans have been making against President Obama back to 2008.
And that's -- that he's the celebrity president that he is not man of the people but instead operates in a bubble and certainly the president does spend a lot of time in places like Beverly Hills in Manhattan and certainly with these kinds of folks.
So as the president continues to keep up this blistering fundraising pace.
In order to finance this campaign he opens the door for Mitt Romney and the Republicans to again make the celebrity argument against him that he is in a bubble -- that he is out of touch.
And -- does it matter because last time around John McCain tried to paint Barack Obama as the biggest celebrity in the world remember.
That campaign -- look how that worked out.
Well that was effective and really if you look at the trajectory of the race that was starting to stick to Obama then Senator Obama.
But -- win the bottom fell out of the economy in the panic of 2008 struck.
It wipe the slate clean so we don't know what would have happened going out of that for Republicans especially given the fact that Mitt Romney comes from some pretty rarefied air himself.
Their goal is to make President Obama somebody who is out of touch with the concerns of blue collar voters the very kind of voters that Mitt Romney's out on a -- -- right now trying to reach out to these.
Heartland voters in the Rust Belt and saying look.
I may be from a different place than you but I get you president Obama's running around with the lady from vote.
Well the fact that the ladies were bugged the thing though is maybe in a -- tours -- a different category -- if she really did behavior she was portrayed and you know different -- a -- know that she's the one you want as your mean backer but that's that's me editorial I think.
But Sarah Jessica for a parent but you know -- Mariah Carey -- -- -- you know may be actually it will help me be their fans will say I like that.
And their foreign strip I mean she's like them the most famous respected actors in America maybe this could really help President Obama is as you know it's being seen.
As having her support.
Probably unlikely celebrity endorsements don't do that much I should stipulate -- I've not seen the devil wears Prada.
-- -- I'm sorry I'm sorry to say that I have not seen at -- -- got -- -- She does so much of -- you don't want to get on the wrong side of so I'm definitely not going to say anything bad about her.
-- as for the other stuff celebrity endorsements over time have proven that.
You don't it does not bring they are popular culture support to you President Obama had a great one with Oprah in 2008 -- a very effective surrogate.
In a very effective and torture for him.
But that was her brand that was.
Whole thing -- without -- question Chris because that actually get there are questions about what is she hurt her -- And did these actors actually run a risk in getting political and hurting around -- isn't sure the Democrats love it but the Republicans might not.
As always you stay on the blue -- side I think there's probably very little risk in Hollywood to getting political certainly you see with Clooney and others.
These actresses.
There's there's very little downside from a professional point of you but you're right if you take it too far as Oprah did you compare -- juicy Sex and the City.
No ma'am.
I've gotten -- I'm holding my line I'm holding my line.
I did you see -- so he's sure ways to do well we'll sort of see anything with us back.
Expect this I've seen those -- -- just -- but but sex in the city and devil wears Prada will we will leave for other demographic.
I I don't know -- -- -- -- anybody anybody who enjoyed a couple of hours product.
I felt that it under consideration and I'm sure pure fiction as wind or I'm -- it's -- -- action if -- progress but.
