Some interesting information coming out according to an -- deep hole this morning on the whole economy here in the United States.
And again this is one poll we like to take it as an indicator and over at our friends at Fox Business Network they look at this one as well.
It shows that the number of households -- at least one person looking for a job.
Is now 23%.
That means if you live on a street and account your house first and account the next three that's four households.
One -- -- was out of work.
-- and if you translate that -- numbers that would mean thirty million people are looking for work that is not a recovery.
In fact what some economists are calling it is a growth.
Recession so in fact we have tipped back into a recession.
Maybe not all with the indices that we have seen across the board a particularly in the growth sector jobs.
Specifically.
Scary stuff if you're one of those people in it and living on that street one in four households.
So what does the president do with that information how does he.
Sell what he's got to -- One Williams is a political analysts here for Fox News Channel and he joins us live from do you see this morning always good to see you want thank you for being on the program.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- All right so the president spoke yesterday did you hear him say anything that would address the issue of what I just brought up because that is the sticking point putting people back to work.
Well I think the reason he was speaking -- Cuyahoga County community college in Cleveland was to suggest that retraining people getting them ready for new and emerging industries.
Is critical he also is that obviously he wants to invest more in terms of education in -- country.
And then to get banks lending to small business.
But you know these are old ideas and this morning the criticism coming from the right is that you know that's the void of new ideas that with a lengthy speech it's just -- Had a logging of all things that he's tried and he doesn't want to mention the word stimulus.
Because he knows that's politically toxic now by contrast the criticism coming.
From the left Harris is hey why isn't he talking about things that he's done -- -- talking about putting more regulation on Wall Street -- they talking about obamacare.
Was this thing that he had such a deep hole to dig out up.
So I think people didn't like this speech yesterday is the -- -- time.
Well you know there -- times and I I don't wanna.
Well -- -- an -- right yeah I don't believe it I think I think it was -- yet to say basically what you have just pointed out with some of the same stuff that we've heard before.
-- the fresh ideas -- now.
What you know the only time I ever hear him speak of that is when he says but congress won't let me push forward.
The platform that I want to with fresh ideas that he just give up on that an -- -- not pitch anything new yesterday.
I'm not sure that he has anything you how to offer.
Basic idea.
Army coming from I think you know not only the Obama team let's be fair -- not I mean from both sides.
What -- the new ideas that we see from the political class in terms getting the economic engine grabbed and roaring again.
From the Romney's side it's tax cuts for corporations and then tax cuts for individuals extending the bush tax cuts.
And then he talks about more oil and gas exploration.
Especially the Keystone Pipeline that.
If you think about it keystone pipelines about yeah maybe 6000 jobs for two years that's not gonna make a huge difference in terms of the numbers you just described the number of people you know people work in the country.
And then when it comes to the tax -- you know well will see I mean that the that's the big argument because the Obama team the Democrats will say.
We tried those policies look where -- got us now ideas coming from Obama again.
Mostly and this is what he has in congress in terms the jobs bill he complains is stuck there and and and caught up in and polarized politics.
Mostly it's additional spending and additional spending on public sector employment.
The -- their jobs for teachers firemen cops that Romney says we don't need we need more investment in the private sector and a smaller government I think -- -- you see.
Really if this speech yesterday that anything it frame that debate as I.
I believe that we have a bigger role a need for government intervention right as President Obama know says challenger -- Well and it is expected to tell the American people look there's a clear choice between me and the other guy I mean heavy house work in -- worked for Ronald Reagan.
Yeah and it worked.
And I worked the last time we had a similar election which is obviously 2004.
When you had George W.
Bush against John Kerry right -- George W.
Bush was not popular it was great concern about the war's weapons ambassador to back.
And the idea McCain was let's look at John Kerry let's look exactly who he is and what he claims to be.
And you know what ideas does he have for dealing with war and arresting.
-- essentially they have this -- John Kerry they they made him on appealing so that people then swung back to the incumbent -- that's what you're gonna have to see here.
Well and that brings me to my next point we had a gentleman on very young from the college conservative it's a group here.
If he goes through the University of Tennessee.
He's the editor in chief there about Zachary Freeman was pointing out that.
Some of the -- that he knows who are typically.
Conservative not always Republican.
Would -- a guy like Ron Paul before they would governor Romney.
And they understand that they might even split the vote because they are so sick of what you just described.
They divide because you said well and I this is what I heard to say I want well you know like 2004 you're gonna have to eviscerate the other guy.
That means that's gonna get nasty.
And you hook it up don't want see that.
You know here's the -- -- you're talking to somebody who lives inside the beltway inside the Washington bubble and so you know I hang around with political people and you know when you talk about all the big spending this here -- a ton of money and most of it goes to ads and -- -- ads for.
-- dirty up the other guy and people say well you know I don't pay attention those ads and in fact most people don't pay attention yet.
But here's the thing some people do -- can be the difference.
The outcome of a close election and guess what we have coming up close election so.
Negative ads if I say something negative about you hairs on this program today believe me it'll be a headline in the morning.
But if I think -- Harris you know you're one of the best and of course quite lovely and -- off and all that.
Do you like laws that bit about -- also what.
But the minute you say something critical about another person or another politician it makes an impression and that's why it's gonna get mega -- that young man that's all I don't want to go through that don't like these politicians get negative.
Well young man guess what works you know what it's proven negativity -- -- -- it's not nice but it's the truth.
All right last comment from you want us as we get ready to part ways here you know there is conventional wisdom and some polling that will show.
That for a man who's run for president for better of six years governor Mitt Romney there might not be enough intensity love for him.
But there might in fact be -- -- intensity dis like.
Of the policies of the current president that will drive more conservative voters to the polls what does the president need to do to stave off that oncoming rush.
He's got to energize his base and that's becoming more and more of a problem.
I think a lot of the criticism this morning -- yesterday's speech in Ohio.
Came from people who say you know what I didn't feel it I mean I don't believe he's coming out there and -- and he's not making a strong enough impression.
And he's got -- vilify the other side he's got to make the impression to independent voters that he has done something counter to what the right has been saying it.
You know this recovery is not coming along well enough he's got to say you know what look at how deep -- hole what he can't be put off by people say don't mention.
George W.
Bush he's got to come back double down and hammer and and I think that's what he needs to energize that base and -- that back.
That the right has coalesced around Mitt Romney pretty quickly after the primaries.
And to reach the reason for that is not as you point out any great love for a man who's been running for president for six years Harris.
It's because they don't like President Obama.
Right right that's likely to be driving more intensity than.
-- -- -- and it brings us right back to the point at which you said the negativity is what sells.
You know I scratch I feel bad you know defeating the idealism of your young -- but.
I I you know it's just I mean that's just what -- -- proven what it and yet.
All right we mention negativity I have to say I didn't tune into the Kim Kardashian in prison everything until it was over when it got nasty that's what I -- they were married.
-- -- The -- -- -- and our lives the united yeah me.
