Well it doesn't have to come to our house -- hard to attempt against the attorney general the United States -- -- says that vote can be avoided on the floor -- some documents are handed over fast from the attorney general's office speaker John Boehner Eric -- part of the Republican leaders have.
Saying the same thing but if positions remain as they are.
That house focus should be coming next week.
Part of the Republican leaders -- joining us right now Wisconsin congressman house budget chief.
Paul Ryan I -- Willis is fast moving congressmen I'm glad to have you here but.
Are do you subscribe to have you as well the documents come then.
Avoid is a vote is avoided.
You -- -- attorney general holder brought this upon himself he's been stonewalling congress for sixteen months.
And yes he can avoid this -- he just brings documents that have been requested for months.
Do you think -- -- a lot of cynics are gonna say very quickly.
This is pretty much along a party line on that this is sort of like a Republican cabal to embarrass the attorney general embarrass the White House when you -- -- what's embarrassing is fast and furious it's something that should never happen ever again and we need to get to the bottom and all congress is doing Neil is it's job he killed in the constitution to conduct oversight of the executive branch.
You know we have a separation of powers for very important reason it is preserved in -- liberty in limits to government.
And this is being infringed upon by this stonewalling and so we were to simply doing our jobs here in the legislative branch.
Do you think this is gonna escalate to a full blown constitutional yeah I don't know I don't know I think it's up something attorney general holder I really don't know the answer that.
Okay if you don't mind I'd like to switch gears sir good to.
Chuck Schumer and others have been critical view from beyond Medicare now and I guess throwing granny off the cliff to throwing the middle class -- the clip.
Saying that a lot of your economic prescriptions benefit the high and -- the -- and like Mitt Romney a man with whom I don't know depending on the Republican operative you might be running.
It's it's just one -- and and only one here we called a consumer to come on talk to us he refused were happy to that you did not but what do you make about.
The senate Democrats put out a report on our budget and it wasn't flattering.
Unless I'm really surprised about that he'll president of Fox News alert Pedroia and Diaz Fazio did that that are breaking -- than some -- -- I guess you haven't.
So first of all what we're talking about is tax reform here's the issue by the Steelers they're like Democrats who actually agree with what we're proposing.
Erskine Bowles in the fiscal commission proposed the same kinds of tax reform.
Lower tax rates by broadening the tax base and those people who get most -- tax loopholes and the people in the top tax credits in the first place.
There were talking -- curtailing in order to give everybody.
Families and small businesses lower tax rates.
Let's not forget that our competitors around the world are lowering their tax rates we have -- the most progressive tax systems in the -- -- world.
We have among the highest tax rates and is putting is that a huge competitive disadvantage.
It's costing jobs it's costing growth.
Where -- come from and in Wisconsin.
Nine out of ten businesses file -- taxes as individuals.
Chuck Schumer Barack Obama are proposing that the effective top tax rate in January go as high as 44 point 8%.
This is a job killer it's gonna -- prosperity.
-- Mitt Romney's talking about what he's proposing.
Is you get back to an American idea of an opportunity society with a safety net.
Turn economic prosperity back on have a society of -- mobility.
Not this redistribution.
Tax borrow and spend mentality that has dominated Washington and -- has given us the worst recovery since World War II.
And so if those kinds of economic prescriptions that Chuck Schumer the rest are talking about.
Would be successful worked we'd be entering a golden age along with Greece right now -- were not.
What we want these economic growth.
We want to get spending under control we want entitlement reform when -- dot debt crisis when I get people back to work that's what Mitt Romney's talking about he was in Janesville Wisconsin on Monday talking about this.
That's what we're talking about.
And bipartisan commissions Democrats.
Come more out of congress.
Are agreeing with us get your tax rates down.
So -- literally -- are you concerned that because both sides are so cemented in their positions for whatever reason.
That they're there isn't going to be any middle ground and and and we're going to be facing a time bomb at the end of this year and that the closest prescription -- a year ago.
You know both sides coming up with is maybe maybe.
A one year extension of the bush rates with the promise I think it was Mitch McConnell is very program -- that.
A serious tax reform next year yes and that that of course springs eternal let's hope put.
Probably unrealistic -- event.
Well the whole thing your answer you mention that the Democrats -- -- today was what our budget which says we wanna do tax reform.
A 10% bracket for low and middle income taxpayers and point 5% top rate.
Point 5% corporate rate with the territorial system we think that's gonna ignite economic growth and he didn't do it in such a way that doesn't cost you revenue from what we already race.
-- what any of your plans to chairman -- to look in -- What do Jeb Bush has said.
A balance and it doesn't even have to be up a fair balance it could be one dollar -- revenue for every nine or ten dollars in cuts.
I think to quote him or paraphrase him he'd sign up for that.
Here's the problem with this current dialogue.
You never get the spending cuts -- Barack Obama present Obama excuse me president Obama's budget.
His tax increases don't even pay for -- Fifth some of the proposed -- -- you would never -- -- -- -- -- would be out because you don't -- I'm not gonna say -- don't -- on -- negotiate with myself out of two point negotiating myself on ratios.
When we're talking off comprehensive tax reform which we do believe would bring in higher revenues.
And getting spending under control the problem is our friends -- the other side of the aisle wanna pass -- at the higher revenues and never give up the lower spending.
And so what's happening -- they just wanna increase revenues and pilot in a more spending north of which drive it deeper -- hole here's the point I would I would say.
We're going to bring a bill to the floor in July that says extend the current code for a year in yes.
Have a fast track procedure to actually get fundamental tax reform were working with senate leaders on how to do that.
So we can be really serious about reforming his tax code and not having these temporary rebates not having.
All this uncertainty pile up at the end of the year so we're passing legislation this summer in the house.
To deal with this train -- community you're unfortunately the senate because they haven't passed a budget in three years.
The president -- and offered a solution other than massive tax increases.
We're going to have this impasse at the end of the year and so yeah I think the lame duck is gonna determine this stuff and who wins the election will largely determine.
Called lame duck plays out our president wins massive tax increase if we win tax reform.
Reasons -- -- congress instead -- always a pleasure thank you very much you -- -- clean --
