1030 now -- New York governor Mitt Romney accusing -- Obama pandering to Latino voters slamming his decision to stop -- young people.
Whose parents brought them here illegally calling it purely politics.
All this coming now ahead of the president's address today do the same group of people.
At the nation's largest Latino convention and forward.
Recall that a stop gap measure that he seems to think we'll be just enough to get him to the election I won't settle.
For stop -- measures.
I'll work with Republicans and Democrats.
To build a long term solution.
Julie Myers would former head of immigration and customs enforcement now president of immigration and custom solutions.
An immigration attorney Francisco Hernandez back with -- as well good morning to both of you.
Good morning -- morning is this more than politics or perhaps how -- Mitt Romney win this argument.
Or does it.
I -- tell you immigration reform is a serious issue and you know a lot of these kids have very sympathetic arguments and something needs to be not.
You know what causes concern here and I think what Romney brightly -- pointing out is that President Obama has not taken leadership on this issue over the past four years.
And now right before the election.
They make an unprecedented.
Grab of executive power -- -- a lot of thought of the implementation.
And there's tons of potential for dropped it is a stopgap it's not a long term solution and we need to do -- -- people of all.
I let let me ask Francisco that will get a Hispanics see it that way they see -- all wrapped in politics.
Well it obviously -- wrapped him politics but you know it's kind of the pot calling the kettle black about Romney saying he's pandering to Hispanics of course president Obama's pandering to the book but there's -- materials population to the voters see it that way that's the question.
I believe it is it is about politics it's all about politics to get some legislation passed you have to get the votes and that's the politics is are about and that's what presidential candidates do.
Be that the flawed and what's missing in the piece of Romney's speeches what is his long term proposal let's put it out here for examination you can't just criticize what what president is doing and then I'll do it better -- -- -- what you're going to do about part of what Julie's point -- -- -- shouldn't jump back in here.
If immigration was so important this administration why wait three and a half years to get it done.
And I was want to Mitt Romney was make.
And that's absolutely right and you know immigration is a very tough issue presidents are often hesitant to bring it up as a topped your topic but it's got to be.
And if Romney's elected he owes it to the country to bring it up as -- top tier issue and President Obama.
Owed it to the country to Americans of all backgrounds to use it as a top tier issue and now to wait until right before the election.
To announce something but say -- -- about implementing it over the next sixty days get back to -- then.
You know that's seems that seems troublesome in many respects even now let me say many of these kids are well deserving of this and so it will be very very beneficial to those.
But for those -- commit fraud it's a big problem and I'm not sure this administration has focused on that and it has a plan to deal.
You know Francisco to that point.
Do Latinos believe that this president has failed them.
Ala I believe that the congress has failed I think everybody believes that the congress has failed -- we -- criticize President Obama.
When senator -- and and all of the -- even Democrats insisted.
That he focused on the deportations first.
Now that he's got the record number of deportations and I don't know why we have to brag about that number irregular deportation -- turning the focus in its timely.
At -- campaign time.
President Bush tried to pass the DREAM Act twice and that and got on the verge of passing and President Obama did try to get a passed a couple of years ago but the votes just weren't there because you needed a supermajority of going to write for quickly.
Hard to the current policy -- Legal immigrants that they necessarily.
Agree with us -- an era -- -- -- we Obey the laws which it did the right way it went work for a -- irony is that people are rewards someone else.
There is -- misimpression after that there is a line to be formed by these folks.
Where they can go and apply for their residency or.
Or green part -- -- work permit.
These folks that are here don't you think they would have already applied if they could have they can't even get driver's license in most states because there they don't have any.
Any papers to be here and most of the people that were dealing with the people there were brought here.
By their parents in a young age they have broken no laws.
They just want to be able to work as Casillas and ask the question about what the legal immigrants feel about that Julie I -- give that last Saturday because legally -- a lot of this comes back into the economy and jobs.
Whether -- Hispanic or African American -- wider Irish church or whatever you want.
-- that's exactly right and I think it's it's trouble senses to -- huge number or add new work permits win there are.
Legal residents and legal foreign nationals here of all types that aren't employed.
Some of those kids really dearly need -- fix that we need a broader push immigration reform and President Obama owes it to the country to work through congress.
And and not just make a fix on his own and it has no implementation plan -- and grant town.
And what governor Romney said about science and technology jobs if you can do that we'll keep -- which sounds a lot like Marco Rubio so.
And here she meant a lot has finally thank you Francisco.
We'll talk to again very soon thanks about the thanks that's.
