Well it comes out of watching the Obama campaign -- -- -- past couple of months which has been all over the place you know first.

They were said the economy was getting better and they said well it wasn't as bad as it might have been and they went over.

After Romney on Bain Capital and then they went after him on his handling of Massachusetts in the war on women and student loans they've been throwing.

Everything -- -- him to try to get something to stick without much traction.

So last week the president came out with an attempt at a reboot.

This is when he laid out his two regions forward mind -- the terrible wanna belongs to Ronnie.

This interestingly has actually begun to calm some nerves out there among the democratic basin and among the political community.

Because -- they realize that this may be the best opportunity has he can't really talk about his record -- the economy but he can't try to make this may be a referendum on me around.

Bill is this pivot likely to have to work what's -- that's likely to work it's probably wise look you you mentioned liberal ranks liberals are always thing.

Anxious when they have to explain -- failure liberal policies you know for two years as president had a democratic majority.

He put in -- stimulus that didn't stimulate.

He put in health care bill that may be to declared unconstitutional unemployment -- higher than any what my experience is always been when people say there's a campaign problem.

PR problem it's always a substance problem.

I think I told you when I was in the White House we once had an acrimonious meeting about -- speeches -- for the surge.

And everyone was complaining about the speeches that we should be saying this in the ratings would go up and I you know my line was he give me a better world -- -- better speech this.

Which happened with tiger if it's hard to make -- a losing -- sound good and -- hard to make a poor economy sounds like it's somebody's fault other -- your -- -- everyone can't concentrates.

On on the message how you can get the message but this is the only place he can go I mean a reboot just look what does that mean it means a new spin.

On on facts that he can't really talk -- it -- and I think that I kind of agree with on this and that if -- the Romney and and disagree with a liberal critics of Obama Obama's campaign I think that they what else -- that.

They -- -- and they do what they have got to change the subject and I got candy why he can't say eight point 2% unemployment that's fabulous housing prices down again that's that's still.

You've got to say Romney would make it worse it's all Bush's fault or let's talk about -- contraception or immigration or something else.

I their their play and as well as they can.

Well it's because it's the hand they've been holding for about four years I mean look they want Obama to somehow come up with a new magic idea on the economy.

The democratic the democratic idea since at least Lyndon Baines Johnson can be summed up in three words tax and spend -- okay that's what they do.

And Barack Obama in that Cleveland speech said he he calls it investments he's going to invest in education infrastructure energy but you research and development.

But you wrote this week that you think that could be a winning message because of the way he pitches that and that focus on the middle class yes.

I think there is tremendous anxiety out there in the country among the electorate and among the middle class electorate people are upset and they don't know why the economy is warming as badly as it is and they want it to get better.

And it's going to be up to either of these two candidates to tell those anxious people -- his ideas are going to make it better and I think that the president -- drilling and drilling.

On himself as the protector of the middle class with out a reputation by Romney it could.

It could work all right Kim how do you think Romney should respond and is he likely to the way that Dan says he needs to.

A -- that Romney challenged because fundamental to the president's reboot in this argument is this -- narrative this sort of rewriting of history.

This argument that the financial crash was fundamentally the fault of conservative policies and philosophies.

And that everything that is wrong in the country is because of that -- stems from that.

And Romney's challenge is going to have to -- to explain why that's wrong to talk about what really caused the financial crash of talk about why we haven't recovered since then.

He hasn't done that much he's been very good offensively saying what president hasn't done the right.

But he has not talked a lot about the bigger ideas and gone back and try to correct that history and that's what he's gonna have to do.

Because otherwise that there is a choice people may and dance and go with what is it seems safer if they think that the alternative is worse.

Romney is speaks in practical terms Obama isn't working right Obama speaks in moral terms -- right this is wrong right.

That's a more powerful argument I would I would say.

Play devil's advocate a little bit.

I'm not sure Romney has to get as detailed look President Obama came in on hope and change it's almost no details.

-- people were tired of bush he retired of the war financial crisis they were tired of it.

A lot of people may be tired of Barack Obama.

What I think that Romney has really do is speak to aspirations.

Of people people are struggling I think there -- a lot of people that are out of work.

There -- a lot of people that are in work but afraid they're gonna lose their jobs they're not moving forward.

He has to -- he's starting to do that but he has really grass respirators you have to show how we get out of yeah I think -- -- but I think that's that's the part tether it.

Two an economy that lets people achieve their dreams.
