History made in the Middle East this morning -- we'll have a president who was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.
The winner in the election the runoff has been declared he is Mohammed -- Morrissey former brotherhood official gives each of its first Islamist president.
-- -- now looking live and to -- square as many members of the Muslim Brotherhood and their followers are -- Gleefully cheering this news that Morrissey who had been imprisoned under Mubarak's.
-- for so many years.
Has won election as Egypt's president.
He faced former prime minister -- -- -- -- in the -- ally.
Of course there's the questions about the military since they have many seeing them as grabbing power.
Dissolving the parliament -- -- is sixty years old he was educated as an engineer in the United States.
There's inverted standing by to -- square right now with the very latest Leland the reaction there that Morrissey has won.
Clearly -- their reaction from the crowd behind me -- -- swear the last time we heard this kind of war.
It was the night Mubarak resigned from power during the revolution.
Sixteen months ago the crowd here.
-- going YL behind me mostly this is made up of the Muslim Brotherhood group.
And in this outlook this -- a harder line version of Muslim Brotherhood.
They didn't hear me now in the square for about three or four days here awaiting he's -- election results.
We hear now about a week away from when the election in the ballot box closed.
Now Mohammed -- he declared the president elect.
-- Egypt more season.
-- -- US educated and -- still hear the roar coming up from this crowd that of the Muslim Brotherhood and promised they would not.
Run in the presidential election -- was not in the Muslim Brotherhood first pick -- makes.
Unity in the presidential election but still he is one roughly the numbers are about thirteen million -- -- Corzine.
Twelve million -- -- may sixteenth who has.
Part of the old Mubarak regime we have got fireworks going off their song breaking out and of course the wild cheers here.
All of this crowd -- -- -- had been able to capitalize not only on the Muslim Brotherhood political machine.
But also on a group called the salad this would make the Muslim Brotherhood look -- moderating comparison they came out also.
Very strongly for more CD shows the power of the Muslim Brotherhood which had been outlawed in this country for decades and remember -- more since that time.
-- in prison as a political prisoner for being part of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Went back when Mubarak was president -- -- a huge change.
Not only for Egypt but also of course for the Arab world for so long President Mubarak.
Was a major ally -- the United States and ally Israel is really did have a very significant peace treaty.
And this now changes the power dynamics here.
What we're gonna have -- next is a struggle with the army the army here has recently dissolve the parliament which was also controlled.
By the Muslim Brotherhood and he said they're going to be in charge of writing the constitution.
Which will they end up deciding what powers this new president elect more -- Could very easily lead to a confrontation.
Between army and amassed crowds you see down.
Right now that are waving flags of every type in a lot of posters of their candidate.
To take from this those sixteen months ago Mubarak thrown out in three weeks and now a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Elected the president of this country you could have gone to date using gotten a million to one odds.
Ten million to one odds on this kind of thing happening two years ago it was simply blend.
Think the -- for the Muslim Brotherhood did not take over the presidency in Egypt and that is what we are now seeing is the result of the Arab Spring here in the mother.
Of the Arab world Eric.
Palin and absolutely amazing chains of events the -- though they have dissolve parliament they've taken control.
Though they have a promise to return of the barracks and hand over civilian control.
And I do think that will happen or is this for a symbolic victory for the Muslim Brotherhood.
-- -- figure out in the next couple of weeks and months the question is going to be whether the generals are a little more than a dozen.
Who control stack which the supreme council of the armed forces they've now runs this country will ever take orders in the Muslim Brotherhood in.
Many of the generals insides -- are terrified of the brotherhood remember for a long time it was the staff and their intelligence agencies.
In the feared secret police here in -- that was in charge.
Of oppressing the brotherhood -- now it's the brotherhood.
That supposedly is going to take executive power it seems highly unlikely at -- that the army is going to ever give up.
The full power what you might have here that was a power split.
Where all of a sudden you have the Muslim Brotherhood controlling save the domestic situation here in Egypt and then.
On the foreign relations side the army and defends the army still continues to have control in the United States and Israel.
Had spent a lot of time over the last sixteen months really investing in their relationship.
Read these generals that are at the very top city still try to have some kind of positive influence here inside Egypt right now.
Now you have to realize the United States gives -- more than a billion dollars a year in military aid here to Egypt.
And you have a country now that is gone from being a strong US -- led by Hosni Mubarak.
The United States could count on to talk to anyone.
And is this crowd is going wild behind me for one reason and one reason only and added there is now a Muslim Brotherhood president.
Who is controlling this country -- to keep in mind also.
The election results here were very close thirteen million to twelve million this is not a mandate here you can break it down by percentage it's less than 5%.
Of the vote about half the people voted selected.
Two and a half percent of the population here decided this election.
As you just how close it is there's a number of people we talked to especially the more educated in the wealthier segments of this population.
Which fear Mohammed more -- leading.
This country and then the Muslim Brotherhood control parliament if they're able to come back into office are going to turn Egypt into an Islamic state or certainly.
Greatly -- trick curtailed things here in terms of the social democracy and also in terms of civil rights for women to be able to be out in the street without a key job.
All these kinds of things are now in play there's a lot of egyptians who themselves are very scared.
About what president more seek to do it certainly the world is now -- have to redraw its power map.
And figure out how now to deal with the Middle East now that the mother of the Arab world is controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood.
We -- it's Jamie I'm curious for the twelve million people that did not vote for the Muslim Brotherhood candidate.
I won't change immediately for that.
Again nothing's gonna change -- you have of course he.
Army still in control but I mentioned -- a big part of his support of those twelve million votes.
Came from the Coptic Christian community here in the tactic Christians are very scared about what is going to happen -- and now that the brotherhood is in control there have been a lot of sectarian clashes between the Christians.
And the Islam is here in Cairo especially and also in Alexandria and then.
In upper Egypt about two or 300 miles south of here down in Luxor and -- line.
In this this country is very very divided right now in those twelve million people who voted for should be.
Many of them their Coptic Christians who now fear retribution and certainly it.
-- down on their religious liberties that are gonna come from this Muslim Brotherhood a good idea.
You know -- certain scene.
How things are gonna -- is look at what happened in the Muslim Brotherhood won the -- -- elections right now Egypt is a country in the middle of the economic crisis.
The brotherhood wins the parliamentarian elections.
In -- thing they immediately go for is to start tightening down the social laws here they didn't really worry.
Much about the economic crisis that was involved here.
In Egypt they spent their time worrying about the social issues in terms of what -- and where where they can Wear it where alcohol to be sold.
And that's something -- -- a lot of people very scared about what president more -- is going to mean going forward.
On the other hand you can see from behind me this crowd it is going wild in a way that we only saw sixteen months ago when President Mubarak resign.
That this country is very divided the Muslim Brotherhood enjoys huge support.
This outlook this -- -- harder line version of the brotherhood also have huge support it is a very.
Very powerful political machine with a lot of money behind it that they have now brought out of there and that is what his dreaded.
Mohammed -- -- now into the president elect seen here in Egypt in this is going to be a very quick transition supposedly.
The army is supposed to swear in president elect more seats sometime in the next few.
