And we get this from Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia say in the court's decision and Arizona.
And president Obama's announcement immigration just doesn't add up in his dissent from yesterday.
Justice Scalia pointed of the president's decision to stop deporting certain young illegal immigrants.
And what he calls the government's failure to uphold its own national walls he writes the following.
To say is the court does that Arizona contradicts federal law by enforcing applications of the immigration act of the president declines to enforce.
Boggles the mind.
Well there are other states who have -- it's similar to Arizona one of them as Alabama and the attorney general in that state is Luther strange.
Is now reviewing their rulings impact in a tough immigration law in his home state -- -- sir good morning to you in Alabama.
Good morning.
Does this -- impacts what Alabama is doing in anyway have you changed any thing in the past 41 hours.
Well since it came out yesterday -- we have not changed anything -- -- reviewing the laws -- no other states are.
Our case is currently pending in the eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and so of that -- is notified us that they'd like to hear our comments and the other players' comments.
So we're preparing those now we have about a week and I have to submit them.
At which -- the eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals will take a look at our breached.
And rule based on what the Supreme Court told us yesterday.
-- the -- -- tougher than Arizona's.
It includes a provision word if you do not carrier registration papers that's a crime in Alabama.
It's -- lawful for unauthorized aliens to solicit her performance.
Work.
Do you now have a a bigger challenge.
Based on what the court handed down yesterday.
Well I think you make -- good point I was pleased that the court ruled that law enforcement has role play and that's not thought that was the case all along and so the stop and ask you report the coordination with federal law enforcement is an important.
Victory for us.
On the other side you know there are a lot of provisions that are now in question and it's pretty premature to say but I think there's a tougher burden.
The problem it -- for states of course is that the federal government and the court is saying the federal government has preemption in this area.
But on the same.
Hand they're saying we're not gonna force the laws and so puts the states is a very tough position.
-- hope bill is that what will come out of this ruling is a mandate on behalf of the congress to actually do their job and pass comprehensive.
Immigration reform and that the federal government will actually enforce the laws that are already on the books.
That's what I'm hoping to see come out of this.
It doesn't appear that congress is ready to act on that.
But based on the first party or answer -- you sound like Justice Scalia he went on to say in his opinion quoting now.
Its citizens feel themselves under -- talking about Arizona.
By and large numbers of illegal immigrants to invade their property strain their social services.
Need to -- their lives in jeopardy he continues.
Federal officials have been unable to remedy the problem and indeed have recently shown that they are unwilling to do so.
What is the practical impact.
Of illegal immigration.
On Alabama today.
Well on the practical impact could not couldn't agree more with justice scalia's phrased it boggles the mind that the federal government -- not only not cooperating with the states but it's actually affirmatively say -- -- not going to cooperate or enforce the laws that are currently on the books.
Practical impact of course.
On -- immigration is a burden on our state services it also.
-- I have that takes away jobs from our legal citizens.
And these days of high unemployment we need to make sure that we're providing jobs for people who were here legally who -- following the rules.
So it puts states in a very difficult position.
We respect the Supreme Court -- respect -- authority and of course will will deal with the issue as it unfold appreciate the answer on that with the other side -- argues that -- big fear is that all this late leads to racial profile.
-- you stated that when you're legal or Italy.
Well.
Legal or illegal citizen or non citizen we're going to respect everyone's civil rights there will be no profiling allowed in the state of Alabama of that standard procedure for all law enforcement.
I've got great confidence in our men and women and law enforcement that they understand the rules that they're going to follow the rules.
Having said that I'm sure they'll be an attempt to find some random case somewhere.
All we can do is make sure our officers are well trained they know the rules they don't discriminate they don't profile and they enforce the law Luther strange thank you for your time.
