Welcome back there is a new way -- crowned college football's national champion.

After years of criticism the bowl championship series is outs.

And a playoff is in a committee of university president saying that the new plan strikes the right balance.

We believe this new format will be good for student athletes.

For alumni and four institutions.

It's a best of both world result that captures the excitement of a playoff.

While protecting the best regular seasons in sports and also the tradition of the vols.

President Virginia -- their head -- speaking there.

-- Kaplan joins us now from the sports business journal the talk a little bit more about that I began hi how are you -- -- -- -- -- -- -- good news or bad news for college football fans I think it's great news for college football fans.

I saw your preview segment and I don't know what was more hated the individual mandate or BBC yes.

People that -- football fans by and large hated the BCS.

And while this won't happen right away it's January 1 2015.

We'll likely be the first new college football championship it is coming.

And at what about for the schools good or bad news for them.

Ot it it's generally good news for the schools however a lot of the schools were tied -- to individual bowls the the conferences were guaranteed a certain amount of money from those -- so how the money is divided.

Will will will change that said there is no doubt.

That it caught a real college football championship will mean a lot more money.

For cultural and let's money -- think we're talking about.

-- I would have to think the championship game itself would be.

By itself 500 million dollars at least I'd be then you have the semifinals.

That the two.

The bowl games that will act as -- semifinals and then you'll have all the other polls still there that will that will be played.

So are.

You you have to be looking at over the course of twelve years several billion dollars texture packet that one of the question that remains that is to get that money so access revenue distribution that all still has to be decided.

Absolutely that has to be decided I would hope.

As they decided they look at the players themselves college football players some would argue are the most exploited athletes it in the country they -- no money yes they get scholarships.

They are often injured after their playing days and very few of them go on to the NFL.

-- so it would be nice to see some of these new resource is go to the players now a division two with three they've had playoff system -- years the -- this will work.

Is it will be a four team playoff right there will be a fourteen playoff they'll be a committee like areas for the basketball tournament that will determine.

-- that fourteen to none of this rankings and call college with called coaches polls and BCS polls.

There will be a committee that will determine who those four are and I'm sure that will be controversial -- be some teams left out.

But I think by and large people will be happy with his going to be on that committee that's not decided yet okay to sell a lot of questions that -- actor that's out there to the Twitter verse and one of the questions it was created frank Ferreira.

He wanted to know why fourteen is not -- seem to think that it should be eight well and if you had eighteen some people would say sixteen teams the NCAA basketball turned tournaments seventy teams whatever number you you you rest on somebody's gonna going to want more.

I think a lot of it is football is there an intensive sport and adding extra games is not something -- pay the college.

How high are you wanted to do you have to -- net -- Caplan thank you so much for joining -- and ousted just stay out go heels they're -- okay thank you if.

It is 500 million dollars.

The first time.

It will be -- billion dollars in revenue within five or ten years it -- -- -- a lot of money a great idea to take that pile of money.

And start bringing down tuition costs for every day students.

Ain't gonna happen though.
