What we won't do.
But the country can't afford to do this refight the political battles of two years ago or go back to the way things work.
-- today's announcement it's time for us to move forward.
To implement and where necessary improve on this law.
This is a time the choice for the American people our mission is clear if we want to get rid of obamacare.
We're gonna have to replace President Obama.
My mission is to make sure we do exactly that.
And those are two different takes on the supreme court's decision.
Changing a bit but substantially upholding president Obama's 2010 health law.
And this is power play you heard there President Obama saying that it was time to move up that the court had spoken it was time to move on with the implementation.
Of his law.
And for the country to shift its attention to something else.
Mitt Romney a Republican soon to be Republican nominee say I'm not so fast we've got eighteen weeks of litigating this sucker.
So who's right who's wrong what's the political fallout.
I can think of two people I cannot think of two people -- would rather discuss this with.
Than your friends Internet chuck -- he is the president of solidarity strategies.
An executive director and because he's from east Texas heat in Washington today the hundred degree heat today is like -- -- did whatever it yeah exactly I -- just need a cold beer will be fine.
And match -- another friend of yours Internet he's a former.
White House political director under president George W.
-- -- Republican strategist they're Smart guys about love America those things are never stipulated.
OK guys.
So the deal is.
Republicans are happy.
Because they think that Mitt Romney now as a cudgel with which to batter President Obama for the rest of the election because the law -- unpopular.
And they're gonna say he's -- tax -- And he's a bad that this was -- it's gonna hurt people there are also excited because they don't -- -- have -- -- -- -- -- -- -- they -- -- -- -- say -- just -- -- one -- we -- agree -- -- -- six.
Democrats are excited because they think.
That the president.
Is get a load your back after a rough late spring and early summer with several things going against him.
President got a big symbolic win they think that this is gonna get some momentum back behind the president so gentlemen and it will start with huge shock.
Which is right or are they both right.
I think that they're both sides the parties are excited for different reasons.
Talks a lot of Democrats over the last 24 hours and -- so red meat for our base just like it's red meat for the other side of it as we both know from doing politics is that it's gonna come down to the issues and who can deliver that message the -- the point you made is the best one is that running -- and say.
We're running against this on our side we're going to be saying.
Now your kids to stay on your health care now your mother who has a preexisting condition.
We'll not be you know oops you know brought out there right so so we're gonna be pushing that Meredith and whoever's narratives is that they're the strongest will be who won who come to.
Now -- for Republicans.
Do the deal is.
If I wrote this day and -- which could have just for following me on Twitter that's all it takes to have this much raw political excellence each day.
But again I have to say well like it will take -- where we can get them but the as I wrote if -- -- would have been overturned in whole.
You know who'd had a really bad bad day yesterday would have been that'll John Boehner because it would now be the very things that -- just described.
The goodies the nice things that people like the kids can -- their parents insurance the patient protection and of this.
Would go away and Democrats would say in the Republican Supreme Court took it away from you -- -- -- your -- on Boehner -- -- to get something done right.
-- the Republicans on the hill made a decision that they're gonna say there for repeal and replace.
But when it really comes down to what replaces -- -- alive yeah.
-- -- will be mentioned but I think there are certain Republican leaders who believe that this election is best fought.
With Obama defending his what they would view is I would use radical policies and it's best for Republicans just zip it.
And stay quiet and there are some folks that believe that the presidential campaign should be run that -- as well.
I am may be a minority view -- this oops I believe that's in state.
I think there are conservative.
Policy options on health care that the Republicans should lead in the should get out there on I think the Republican brand name still has a lot of rehab to go through and I think the reason why we're in such good position on so many -- these congressional senate races and the presidential race.
Is pretty much the American people have decided -- Over 70%.
Of the American people.
Believe that the individual mandate is unconstitutional that's a ton of independents and even of a good -- Democrats I think the American people have decided.
That they're not sure if this guy Obama they -- I can.
The delegates policies and has given Republicans an opportunity.
I think you're right I think his decision to not just completely ruled the whole bill -- constitutional gave him a little bit of an out they would Canada they would have been stuck with what they're replaced.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- And I apologize -- I did not ask for a graphic to be prepared on this -- just imagine the words on the screen.
This is what have -- said that I found so fascinating.
Members of this court are vested with the authority to interpret the law.
We possess neither the expertise nor the prerogative to make policy judgments those decisions are entrusted to our nation's elected leaders.
Who would be thrown out of office if the people disagree with that it is not our job to protect the people from the consequences of their political choices this to mean that sounds like John Roberts.
A conservative justice on the court saying to Mitt Romney.
Hey dude you better go win.
Yeah I think -- take that argument -- you think Jarvis is some kind of closet left.
Which I don't think it's a lot of that I think that I haven't read a lot about this and of course I could be wrong wrong trying to interpret what happened with nine people inside -- -- room which they give us -- written words about what they think.
But I think there's also question here that John Roberts didn't view this is necessarily right indeed it is a political question and said look like you said.
This -- bill comes the law if all the process even a few of us think that the kind of you know color outside the edges and it is it is it is the law and you know -- It's not to the point where the court should and shouldn't should really offended even if it.
Even if -- reaches some philosophical concerns that he has and he didn't say that he viewed as a political question but it kind of seems like when you read what he said that that's an away what he's saying.
Which is the American people passes through this process is slow inside his -- -- -- you.
You want it you've got a yes as here is chuck what -- no seniors says chief Justice Roberts proved yesterday that he's still the smartest man in the room.
He be the only thing he could to force the president and congress to do their job.
While still staying within the confines of the constitution and he is a tricky -- John Roberts definitely is a tricky fish isn't he crafted this.
He did two things one he said oh by the way to tax rate he said we're gonna call you we're gonna call it what it is.
It's we're gonna call it tax the other thing he did was say oh by the way -- states like your native Texas.
Are free if they want to to walk away and not participate in Medicaid part which is gonna take money out of it that it's the end when they couldn't get enough dough together to make it revenue neutral to make it no impact on the budget they said dear -- fifty states please pay for a -- of this stuff.
And now states can get out of it if they want to.
Is there a concern.
Here on this tax question is there concern.
So.
First of -- -- peace and give you little little backside is just the first time in American history in my backside on the -- first time in American history.
That the judges voted with the liberal block of the Supreme Court first time ever if we talk about the tax issue.
As a political consultant who helps politicians run campaigns I would say that its attacks it's already been there.
That when I go to the hospital and -- have insurance.
And I give my appeal the guy who comes in behind me who doesn't have any insurance -- they'll get put on mobile and so now we have leveled the playing field.
Where people have to pay into the system so what's fair for all Americans -- will make that pitch all day long because people have talked about that from the hollers of West Virginia to Texas to wherever.
They have they have that best thing that is not fair right so we will have that debate policy -- my brother don't agree with everything.
That we -- -- comes down on winning election we'll.
Matt the part of the deal here is that.
Implementation has been held in abeyance everybody was watching to see what the court was going to do.
So employers.
Insurance companies doctors everybody was waiting.
Until the ruling was handed down now things are gonna go faster because you're welcome constitutional we have to get ready because that deadlines are falling on January 1 full implementation until 2014.
But you gotta be on -- you gotta have your trains on the track.
By the start of 2013.
Is there -- political consequence to that.
-- yeah absolutely -- -- here if you're believing Catholic in this country -- -- things got slow down and those things are gonna get even worse and to my friend -- say.
Yeah okay I guess you can say that some of these calls were born in the emergency rooms -- uninsured people but here's the reason why this is a political ball right at its height.
Under the Gallup numbers only forty -- -- the American people support this bill is dog because there's nothing about cost of what you just said is kind of like do you -- for how you would.
Support this tax increase those -- all just -- -- means all these tax increases that judge Roberts talked about are all going way up.
We did nothing in this bill did -- cost only gets -- for a lot of debt to our kids.
-- -- get the last word today I'm sorry to tell you.
The next time -- -- of -- yeah glassware I promise about that I don't stay cool out there I hope you will thanks for being with us we're.
