Bob Bob Cusack now full or mall on the political -- -- -- of Capitol Hill.
Bob of course is managing -- -- all of the -- And a man who plays it down the middle thank goodness because I'm exhausted after this week -- absolutely -- It was doubted it was I'd say it was a long week a very exciting weekend.
But we'll see how the voters on November 6 handle health care in any economy and and I imagine that.
Wouldn't talk about healthcare affirmed for quite some time but the economy's gonna dominate an -- Right okay there's so good let's will stick with -- health care for the moment ball what do you make it be interesting reports coming out about.
Chief Justice John Roberts switching his vote.
On the health care issue and -- being subjected to some pretty strong persuasive techniques.
From the other more conservative job.
This is yeah I mean just so fascinating that that Roberts apparently it was going to side with conservative part of the court.
Strike it down and it was a question of whether some of the law or all of the law.
Gets -- somewhere -- along the line and this is I think all gonna come out I mean clearly I think they'll be books written about.
The wrangling behind the scenes so and then he decided not I'm gonna shift and side with the the liberal side of the court and that he tried to reportedly try to get Kennedy.
To go with them to make it at 63 decision.
They've made it very interesting that you know Roberts obviously nominated by George W.
Bush -- said in his confirmation hearings on the empire I'm gonna call balls and strikes.
And 22 Democrats voted against him including present Obama and 22 Democrats.
Voted form including liberals like Russ Feingold and and Patrick Leahy so fascinating turn of events it's shocking really because of course most people Washington.
I thought the that the whole thing or at least part of it was gonna go down yeah -- -- Fascinating because we don't often get a glimpse of the the way that these debates go long -- among the justices.
Privately.
If any do you get any sense.
-- that this will affect the ongoing relationship.
Because.
For if you were in -- reading some of the reporting it sounds like the more conservative justices Scalia claims is what really pretty angry with the would John Roberts evidence.
Yeah I mean you always hear -- at the Supreme Court that suggests is always get along they support each other what -- they're doing socially they have an event.
Whether they're -- nominee by Republicans or Democrats very cordial environment.
It sounds like some of that broke down in this highly charged highly partisan.
Issue and that that is something that you do not hear from the court that this is now spilling out into the into the public.
So is just I do think it's very interesting to see how angry they got how this will affect their relationships going forward.
And what they will say if anything about it.
Yet going to be fascinating to watch I'm also -- the hill nagging you guys got some -- -- in reporting.
On some worries among some members of the Republican body.
That base coming election.
May be that lost Johns actually defeat the health or in other words if they don't win I guess the -- done there's nothing more they can do to repeal it.
Right right some Republicans are saying listen we we have to get the house they already have the house and -- got to keep control that.
Get control the senate they need to pick up three or how well -- three seats if Obama loses of course they need to get the White House and so that's.
You know that can happen political handicap -- say.
But that's the only way they're gonna stop it because if they get a majority in the senate and the house and have the White House the plan would be.
That they would pass a budget reconciliation.
Bill that would repeal the whole thing and Romney would signing into law but there's still debate on whether that can happen.
As far as can use can they strike all of it with only fifty votes if they had sixty votes and they could or just parts of it.
But regardless they have to do well in 2012 because we're gonna see the coverage mandate going into effect.
After the 2012 election cell it's either now or never some Republicans.
That's that certainly gives them some left motivation to get out there and get us.
Get the base -- also did that a lot of Republicans apparently.
Bob talking about governor Romney's need to distance himself from bush I concert I ever really thought of him as.
As tied to to have former President Bush that.
Much.
No but but polls show that bullish most people do blame bush more than Obama and Democrats privately -- well that's the reason while Obama is even close in this election with.
Mitt Romney of course bush is not on the ballot.
But be here the president saying over and over again.
That Romney would return to the way that the White House used to direct and it's clear that he's saying okay Romney would return to it to bush like.
Policies so.
Republicans are saying the -- that Romney needs to take away that political advantage from Obama.
And distance himself and say well you know under under bush -- -- the Republicans did lose their way government spending did -- you hear about Republican leaders in congress they acknowledge that that they lost a way that's why they lost there.
The majority in congress in 2006 now -- is not gonna bash George W.
Bush George W.
Bush and his family support Romney.
But there are some Republican lawmakers who say listen he needs to do it.
-- just so that he can make sure that Obama doesn't have that advantage and that'll help Romney when the election.
All right interesting stuff -- could Zach as always thank you so much focus on managing editor of the hill -- wonderful July 4 week well.
If you thanks -- all right we'll see you next week of.
