On the supreme court's decision upholding most of the president's health care -- leaving many states.
With some tough decisions right now to make specifically -- deciding whether or not to accept billions of dollars in new funding.
Starting a few years and -- fourteen to cover an expansion of Medicaid.
That's the federal state insurance program for the four for the -- I joining me now Texas attorney general Greg Abbott and -- rather nice to have you with us today.
Thank you -- going to be with you said recently -- interviewed that you're in the process of evaluating another potential legal challenge to the law what do you mean by that.
Well we already have one additional legal challenge to the law is so law also that we filed.
Along with some other states and some other parties earlier this year challenging.
The federal government's regulation issue by health and human services.
Forcing certain religious based organizations.
To implement measures and provide products.
Contrary to their First Amendment freedom of religion beliefs and so that is one that is already existing.
We're going to be looking -- others -- because.
The devil's in the details of all these health care mandates and as these new regulations issued could spawned a new legal challenges the violate americans' constitutional rights.
No the only person is right all along and it -- your strategy then to go after this -- at the Supreme Court had the ruling about he had this big ruling overall.
On this 2400 page document.
Is that your strategy now to go after the lot piece by piece.
Well that that the strategy is to to make sure that the rule of law is upheld.
And that Americans and State's constitutional rights are not trampled.
Anytime -- -- regulations issued by the agencies trying to implement obamacare.
That violate the constitution.
It's our responsibility.
To file a legal challenge.
To those regulations and so now that we have passed this first stage the first court ruling.
It's incumbent upon us to make sure that the law is is implemented.
And a constitutional way I've been -- one last point here.
And that is Americans today are facing something they were not facing this time last week.
And that is a -- huge tax mandate on them.
America's may have pushed back against the politicians more had -- been aware that obamacare was really an Obama tax and so we're gonna to be taking a look at the tax consequences of this legislation.
So Americans will not have to pay that tax -- if they do have insurance.
What out of -- Texans -- without insurance right now and the way in theory this is supposed to go is that those without insurance can turn to the state exchanges.
And find affordable health care it's up to the states though.
And how they set up those exchanges.
I general Abbott will.
The Texas government said at the exchanges so small businesses and individuals can can shop and find affordable insurance.
-- we still believe that is putting the cart before the horse because look good because this is a tax law now is different.
A procedurally.
In the United States senate than it was before it was the tax law would it when you consider as I understand it.
That this can now go to the reconciliation process when you consider that Americans may push back against this tax on more than they would have before.
You can see the prospects in all of obamacare all of the -- -- bomb attacks could be brought down.
Four months from now after the election.
And so we don't wanna get to four ahead of ourselves and put the cart before the horse when in reality the law may go away in just a few short months silly you have a blueprint testing case.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- I -- look for to have you back to drive especially with your background as -- judges well it's important that we act stay close and follow it -- couldn't continue to follow your pathway here.
As we move ahead towards the full implementation of the spot thank you for the time today.
Thank you Jenna.
