Economic times it could become easy to feel negative towards our country and our next guest says that we need to remind ourselves of the principles that America was founded on.

And remember why the United States is so exceptional also joining us is the president of heritage -- author of the American spirit.

Celebrating the virtues and values that make us great -- -- -- hi Ed.

When that -- LE.

Great to be with you I originally thought -- you -- -- of Europe the points in your book I think is so important to remember is that America is the only country.

It was founded on an idea on an ideal on a dream were more than just a location where dreams tell us what you mean.

All we're now don't we are -- dream for people for more than 200 countries around the world.

There is only an American dream there's no French dream there's no Chinese dream.

Americans.

Come together because we believe we are really an extraordinary and exceptional nation.

Our president in the past is talked about Greek exceptional is and things like that but.

There's no place that exceptional way the United States is exceptional is well come together in -- -- blank slate we can make whatever we want of ourselves we can rises high is we want.

I did you have some steps you say America needs to take.

To get back to that American spirit number one is realize limits that should be placed on government.

Number two.

There's -- will ask you about reaffirmed the truth that government does not create jobs or grow an economy in so much criticism obviously.

Lob that President Obama for not creating jobs does -- not deserve that.

He he deserves credit for trying to have been blamed really for trying to spend the money.

Of other people and after all government doesn't have any money except what it takes from people.

And then trying to re circulated back into the economy.

I was listening to your earlier reports and when we hear about 99 weeks of unemployment compensation.

Boy you subsidize something they're gonna get more of it.

That's just the way the economy works that's the way the economic system works.

Fundamentally I'm I'm an optimist I believe the United States have come out of this but I think we've got to have faced up to some real hard truths in the meantime.

But it can't see if your point is is that government can never create jobs and what is the answer to getting out.

The answer is get back to the private sector get rid of the excess regulations.

Lower Texas so that you've got incentives.

My old friend Jack Kemp used to say we're never gonna get ahead when we keep cutting the bottom runs off the letter to make it harder for people to get started.

And that's what the government's been doing in so many different ways.

You all know that most jobs are created by small and middle sized business.

Boy if they don't have a certainty about how they're going to be able to operate in the future.

Then there.

They're not gonna start the -- and expand they're not gonna grow the way they're gonna have to.

And you know that's that's really the secret of what our whole system is about our system's not about crony capitalism.

That's that's not our system our system believes in the rule on these are the principles we talk about in our book -- of the book is the American spirit celebrating the virtues and values that make us great.

And -- thanks so much.

Thank you very much -- -- coming.
