I'm great and really interesting reading this new poll you've got in the hill.
On it -- which you Austin people how the country's changed since President Obama took office tell us about it.
Yes stunning results here where most of the respondents believe that president -- has significantly changed.
The country but by -- 56 to 35 margin.
For the worse and an astounding one in five Democrats.
Found.
Said that.
That yes indeed that the president -- has has changed the country for the worse and really stunning results here especially from.
With the within his own party of course Republicans I think he had that present a lot has changed the country for the worse only one or 2% giving.
-- a thumbs up so but these are dramatic results and then this is because of the economy obviously that did that voters are not satisfied.
But -- -- you look at this is what I -- I don't.
Understand what is going on politically right now but obviously you do because -- much smarter than me the -- that engage should be.
Give governor Romney such a strong hand.
-- in all of this.
Yet he still.
And it's it's obviously going to be a tight election but he's still just that little bit behind in a lot of the battleground states -- center.
Shouldn't he be in a much more comfortable position right now at least in a lead of -- all.
That's right it down and then that's another story we wrote for today's issue is that.
A lot of Republicans -- like why isn't Mitt Romney up by.
Five to ten points with the economy being the number one issue and and most voters thinking the economy is is getting worse how is it that Mitt Romney is not winning this now of course -- president -- has the White House easy incumbent.
So but still that a lot of Republicans have been.
They even -- nervous with the Romney campaign and obviously they had that stumble whether that.
The health care mandate is a penalty or attacks and they believe that Obama's campaign has been more efficient.
Especially over the last couple weeks but but as wheat is -- elite we did the political -- -- back on the economy away from immigration away from the health care decision.
That's that's gonna be a strength for Romney but there are certainly some Republicans who think listen Romney needs to step it up a little bit.
Yes and and you look at the unemployment rate right now -- Demi we have this.
This statistical look at it up from December 07 to.
June 12.
It you know -- Shooting upwards from December 07 till about June.
-- 09 and then -- really flattening and coming down slightly.
But that's not moving nearly enough for the majority of people to be convinced that -- moving quickly enough in the right direction.
Now and this is problem for President Obama because there was signs of -- and some decent job growth early this year about a year ago -- unemployment rate.
-- your -- it was 9%.
And it looked like it was is dropping and now it's ticking back up and that that is a problem for for President Obama and that's why.
I think that it does -- decide on the economy.
And the debates but -- Obama has the like ability edge polls do show that he's got advantages with women voters and Hispanics.
And that is a reason why he has a slight.
But ever so slightly.
What's so what's the scuttlebutt on the among Republicans in DC ball.
A back to walk Mitt Romney needs to do I mean we see the differing views he needs to put more meat on the bones of his policies.
He needs to get just a more aggressive campaign.
What do most people saying did like change the campaign stop or just.
Put some put some actual detailed policy proposals at that.
I think a combination.
Of that well we recent saw last late last week Kevin Madden who was with the Romney campaign in 2008.
He will be joining the campaign.
In it for the next four months but I do think there has to be more meat on the bones that's what conservatives are saying is that.
Romney needs more clarity whether it's on Afghanistan.
On the economy he also needs a slogan I mean -- -- Obama got elected on hope and change and he's been struggling.
With his own slogan.
For 2012.
You said you know looking forward.
But the but they've also the campaign -- in -- Did that may not be a permanent -- you need a bumper sticker and what is it going to be for Mitt Romney we've seen him say that he wants less government.
More jobs -- lower the deficit.
But they need to that Republicans feel like he needs to come up with concise message and just -- -- day after day after day and of course as you know Jonathan.
-- take -- -- criticism firfer is recent vacation and appearing on on the jet -- so they -- they don't anticipate any more vacations between now election that I any.
Any he's -- getting involved that we may be getting a lot closer to a vice presidential decision from a governor -- You know I think we're gonna get close I I don't think he's going to be announcing yet this week if I had to bet he -- he's got that death foreign policy trip it was going to.
To England as well as Israel.
But do I think it's gonna come before the normal time yes I -- Republicans have been telling us listen.
You can get a bump from this you get two people on the campaign stump you get to people as opposed to one.
Raising funds and maybe just maybe when he announces his running mate he would get that -- of two or three.
Points and you don't need to do it at the convention at the end of August that's what some Republicans say.
That's what they're weighing in maybe you do it and maybe in the beginning of August but I don't.
I don't anticipate it coming this weekend I think they.
They want to have a little more time to -- but but do I think it's gonna come before the usual time of that the convention idea.
You know them well it'll be interesting to -- show when we get them that's for sure I'm Natalie we just have been watching and listening here to President Obama.
I in the east room of the white has -- talking about extending some.
Of the bush era tax cuts for families earning less and 250000.
Republicans obviously want them extended across the board for wealthier Americans to -- this gonna play out politically now.
Well politically fascinating because Democrats on Capitol Hill.
Actually not that 250 threshold -- Are at a million so I think this gives that President Obama some negotiating room and potentially lot of speculation that later this year present mama.
Will deviate from his long held stance on on raising.
Taxes for those making more than 250000.
Dollars to a million and then put Republicans how to put Republicans on the spot -- well listen I've I've compromised.
You need to compromise but but there's a split between congressional Democrats.
And present Obama Nancy Pelosi has endorsed the one million.
Dollar message and policy at the end Democrats it's a better cleaner policy Hussein millionaires as opposed to 250000 -- Chuck Schumer also.
At a million so that's wanna watch to see -- present Obama is just using.
This announcement as negotiating tactic because honestly what he said -- not news I mean he has said to fifty.
From those 2008 campaign often through today nothing was changed today but will he change over the next four months so.
-- you're suggesting a politician running for the presidency might actually be playing a political -- Kandahar don't happen that imagine that exactly it's oddly they've enhanced doesn't this -- -- -- -- -- -- Mitt Romney.
-- being taking some criticism for the vacation.
Does this put him in a -- in a difficult position because.
-- is the unspoken idea that President Obama is saying I'm not giving tax cuts to those kinda guy.
-- yes -- that's exactly right and that's why I think.
That damage that Obama may go to a million.
Later this year where he's basically make in the case -- -- the billionaire.
Who wants to help the millionaires -- and Mitt Romney's a rich guy he's out of touch with the needs of a middle class voters so.
I know I think -- -- the wind surfing that John Kerry didn't 2004 is is a little worsen then the jet ski but.
But -- visuals are very important in politics and and that's why some Republicans including Laura Ingraham a Fox News was was criticizing Romney on that they really want him.
To focus focus on the economy and put the present on the defensive.
And provide as you said some more meat on the bones in his in his policies that he would pursue.
As president all right and we --
