As we were telling you in just a few -- now members of the house.

Will reconvene and are expected to vote to repeal the president's health care law but our next guest says the vote doesn't mean -- Joining me now is democratic congressman house minority whip Steny Hoyer so it doesn't -- -- think.

While Gretchen -- mean something in that there's the Republican Party continues to pursue its message.

Not substance this is the 31 time we voted on.

Repealing the health care bill.

It's the 31 time that it will fail everybody knows the president is committed to it he's not gonna sign that bill if the past.

-- but they also know the Senate's not gonna pass the bill so this is about politics not policy.

And very frankly if it passed if it became law.

-- literally millions and millions of Americans would lose benefits they already have young people would be kicked off their family's insurance policy.

Preexisting conditions would now be used by the insurance company keep children from getting -- care insurance seniors in the doughnut hole.

Would be again placed in a position where they may not be able to afford prescription drugs they need to write keep their life and those.

Some of the provisions got a congressman that that the most Americans actually like but when you look at the bill overall I wanna take a look at the most recent poll.

Most Americans still don't like Obama care so who's really listen to the constituent.

-- it depends upon which poll you're looking at -- just did a poll what's at 56% of Americans all want us to move on.

That wants to be focused on jobs.

They want to make sure the health care bill will work there's no doubt about that.

Hot but very frankly I think the Republicans are wrong in thinking the American people -- Retreat right what the American people want the congress to be doing -- focus on jobs right building this well.

And a lot of doesn't -- we're not doing a lot of those Americans wanted this president to be focused on jobs when instead he was focused on health care.

For the first two years of his administration which moves us in the next topic which is now he's claiming that his tax cut plan is the same as.

Bill Clinton's visit isn't really I mean you you you -- there is it really isn't really the same thing.

Well I think we're not in the same position we had the bush tax cuts for the very wealthy very frankly.

We've had the worst economy -- worst recession we've seen post bush.

Administration.

That the president's been trying to address of say it's the same posture we were in 901993.

When by the way every Republican.

Everyone to -- two to everyone in the congress.

House and senate said that program would not work in fact it brought us the best economy -- I've seen in my lifetime and you've seen in your lifetime.

And four years of balanced budget and a surplus of five point six trillion dollars according to George Bush when he took over so.

Well there weren't a lot of clear there are situations but there were a lot of and it's very -- resident wit my -- -- I wanted to get it I -- -- -- China's economy was a lot better off at that point in time on mixture and get that again.

But -- you about it after the Clinton administration mean a lot federal I don't know idling right I mean when you know that what we need those particular cut.

-- -- -- make sure I get this at this point in them because I don't wanna run out of time before I get this again.

A lot of people are saying that President Obama giving his middle class tax cut right now.

To people -- families making under 250000 dollars year is simply campaign strategy he knows that that's not going anywhere either just like you're claiming the health care vote today won't go anywhere your response.

-- you know -- that's Gretchen did not unfortunate because what the president said what I believe is.

Everybody in the congress agrees or at least says they're great.

That those under 250000.

Dollars should not have the a tax increase we agree with that.

The Republicans agree with that isn't -- a shame that -- holding hostage data on which we don't agree and that is that the richest folks in American.

Should not get any tax cut.

But should pay a fair share.

-- -- -- back there drinking or is it politically correct there's -- this there's really -- disagree with the president Chuck Schumer are Nancy Pelosi.

-- -- -- -- -- You're wrong Gretchen.

Nancy Pelosi believes the president is correct that we -- -- move forward and she changed their minds under -- -- that maybe she did.

What's the million dollars really isn't as a function of which overwhelmingly 80% of the American people think -- auto not have a tax -- for those people.

Very frankly.

What that million dollars represented to show that the Republicans won't be for a tax cut for anybody even though -- study just showed.

Americans -- -- the lowest tax rate they -- than thirty years we've got a deficit we've got a -- we need to deal with that right -- we need to set aside sequestration very frankly we need a big bold balanced plan.

But we do agree that nobody under 250000.

Dollars ought to get a tax increase OK isn't it a shame isn't it a shame Gretchen.

That which we agree.

We can't get the Republicans and Democrats together to move on -- -- that he presents for that I would hope the Republicans would be let's see what happens with that congressman Steny higher.

So glad that we can make in the half thanks so much thanks.
