Hi everybody I'm Jamie -- this is -- take I don't know where else you can get this information we have a great show ahead for you in this hour.
Our first guess is Kenneth was nasty.
And he's gonna talk to us about FaceBook you know it came out the IPO.
There's a lot of excitement about it some people got in and then we're sorry they did some people candidates are still waiting.
For the expected profits and gains that they thought they might get -- FaceBook today and well.
Sure -- wolf thank you first of all FaceBook has really done a pretty good job of kind of peaking mean mess -- in the overall.
Failed IP going to start to really deal -- -- turn things around and really address a lot of this big concerns.
They came out post IPO about the revenue and how they can really -- that revenue so from that perspective they're trying to almost rebrand themselves or in.
Increase their image again as a stock that people should really be interest event how successfully are they doing that.
I think so far and you know obviously if you look you know I think the perception out there from analysts has kind of changed a little bit on FaceBook.
We've started the CV rise of the actual stock price increase a little bit.
And I think the re really.
When you look at that.
The notion that they're coming up with some better ideas some new things that are going to be in the mix I think it's given some renewed hope that FaceBook could be that.
Monster that everyone originally thought it was gonna back.
In terms of what FaceBook can do.
To improve its share price.
Get people excited about it again -- especially after this disappointment what are some of the new features that they're working on that might allow that to happen.
Well again I think there's really three features that kind of continue to be at the forefront of what they're talking about doing.
Once been discussed a great deal and it's really been the notion of trying to.
Do a better job monetizing their mobile process where so many people are utilizing FaceBook from their mobile applications.
Don't ultimately reality is they haven't really been -- -- to drive much revenue dollar there.
So that's an area that they're looking up but at the same time they're coming up with -- innovations within you want button.
And also this new job word that they've talked about.
That's gonna come -- in the fall all of which would seem to have a good opportunity for them to be able to come back and find additional streams of revenue.
Can't clearly -- jobs waters.
It fits right in now with the big concerns that everybody has about finding employment can -- be useful tool in getting people back to work.
I think that they can be useful from the perspective that there's a lot of employers out there.
That don't have the opportunity you -- the budget to use some of these bigger.
I'm more well noon web sites such as a monster or career builder because the costs are relatively difficult to be able to incur -- small business.
If FaceBook came in with a platform.
That already kind of had the users -- -- didn't need to spend as much to really drive that traffic.
And already kind of have that client base there they could probably do it at a lower price and be able to find a -- more businesses out there that are looking higher.
And advertising dollars had somewhat dried up.
And now some companies are coming back to advertise substantially on on.
Web sites like Facebook.
Do you ever be at.
-- charge service or do you think they'll be able to continue as they are afraid.
With the major sponsors and advertisers coming back like I believe -- your GM one of those recently made -- a new commitment.
My personal feeling is that some of these bigger.
Advertisers that are out they're really gonna struggle to see there are alive the return on investment from some of these large advised they -- from the FaceBook.
I've always thought that FaceBook would be better off charging -- marginal monthly fee whether it's a dollar 99 or whatever it is per month to their user base.
That would obviously be able to drive a lot of revenue and would be able to make the advertising that's on there not be so destructive I think -- now with the notion that they want to keep get a free platform.
Then I think did the fact could come in the play that people started to feel a little bit differently about it.
When everywhere they -- there -- ads so I think that something you're gonna need to look at again.
And do you have any others say they're watching right now they have to be concerned I mean personally -- the major shareholders made money from that IPO even though many other people were so disappointed.
In showing their confidence for the company.
So going forward what advice would you have for them.
On how to continue to attract new.
Subscribers or people that want to be involved new advertisers.
And really even proposals for new feature.
-- -- -- Police think that -- book probably was like most people.
Relatively surprised by the fact that the IPO didn't go off as well as everyone it kind of thought it was going to have.
So I think they really kind of come back into things and you know the reality of it is.
What happened could really have been the best thing for them because now they've really started to focus a lot more in the business at hand it really gaining back.
Media attention -- kind of gaining back the shine that they once had.
To really -- where they could start to grow again and focus on things so I think the fact that they've done that.
And kind of have gone through this leads them down the road to be able to find some of these things you see -- innovation the job word the one.
But not all of these things are kind of leading them towards becoming a better company.
What was the -- board all out.
The the one button to two from our perspective again isn't something that's really been rolled out yet.
It hasn't really been to any great degree discussed but we're seeing it in their source -- we're seeing it is something that they're going to be rolling out.
So the reality of it is is I think it's a play for them to really be able to go back.
And show advertisers -- way to really be able to almost do their own market research if I get a television.
Company that makes TVs -- in launches a new 3-D television.
And they put it down -- a bunch of ads on FaceBook and they see tons and tons of people hitting that one button around that product.
They know that there's interest in that product that they don't see that they can really scaled back and wonder hey maybe this doesn't have the public perception we thought it was gonna.
Overall long term where do you think the company stands.
Overall long term I think we talked about this a couple of minutes ago we talked about it becoming a paid service.
I think the reality of it is is at some point it's going to need to be at some level the cost.
Again I don't think it's -- -- to be -- huge cost them monthly basis.
But there will be a fee for it which will take some of the pressure off them to really be able to keep coming up in reinventing themselves and finding additional revenue sources.
They'll have revenue coming in from their subscriber base and they'll be able to grow -- Ad revenue in different things but they won't feel so much under the gun to really be able to do that.
It's it certainly is an amazing company to watch.
Growth has just been substantially even had a movie about it the social network it's really great to me -- -- thank you so much.
Thank you very much I appreciate it.
We're -- jet over to Los Angeles now -- speak toward -- is going to be telling us about some other exciting things happening.
We didn't technology and the gaming community I know most people could spend all day talking and actually playing these games -- what's your personal favorite right now by the way.
So this week who he had just announced a kick starter project and this console starts at less than a hundred dollars.
And it goes on the android platform operating system.
And the phenomenal thing is they're taking the original.
The TV to video game concept in bringing what.
Mobile games have done to indie developers and bringing them to your living room.
And it's -- substantial success story for crowd sourcing because.
Web sites like kick starter.
They've they've been able to raise their funding goal within eight hours and they've got 28 more days left.
And they've -- exceeded four million dollars in terms raising revenue to jump start this project.
They're embracing hackers which Xbox and PlayStation have long.
Kept out of the market.
There'll -- allowing them to enhance the the gaming console and build games on -- -- It's it's by far.
The most involving -- of all the operating systems for the gaming world.
And it's really exciting to see because you don't know -- the possibilities will take you because.
You know any kid in a garage can essentially build a game and go from there where today -- You have to go through a publisher and nearly and in the types of games you want to build.
And the types of games that people want to see so it's going directly to the consumer and it's a really exciting.
You know it's so funny that you say that about kids in their garage because I recently spoke to a group of teens and tween is about career -- in the future.
And I asked a couple of the kids what he wanted to be when you got to you know yet.
And it young man who has maybe nine or ten years old said.
Video game -- And there actually are now a -- a lot of careers that you can do it video gaming but is or other technique news that people should be following.
Especially on the job front to see the trends.
What we learned this week for example.
Of new areas where people might be able to get involved -- show interest.
In video games we've got the developers.
In Amazon we're looking out they're also getting into these cell phone business.
Of the rumors are with.
That they're going after sir you know the Google market they're going after apple IOS and we know that blackberries and a lot of trouble this past -- and and the last few months windows is getting into the gaming into the into the phone market.
So Amazon is trying to take a stab at it Google has gone after the Amazon Kindle fire in the same price point.
So Amazon is firing back as well with their own version of a phone.
It may be based off of the android system itself but.
We're excited to see what's coming.
Obviously they have a huge phone market on their website.
They've got a a massive media and book market.
And and they can take a big step in the phone industry.
-- -- -- Wondering whether or not they're gonna stay in business and then they come along with the Blackberry -- What kind of features doesn't have is -- going to capturing new market would help retain the one they have -- mean very little.
Well that's the big question so grandma has delayed Blackberry ten again.
And it is now -- it's -- release in January.
And the world of mobile operating systems mobile operating systems feet to more sales in hardware.
And for Blackberry the last time they came out with an operating system was last August.
And on a cycle of operating systems we see them on a yearly basis or or less.
And if you look at their calendar they're pushing a year and a half.
And it's so it's a little bit daunting for Blackberry a lot of their customers have left and and joined.
Apple IOS or Google's Android.
And windows has gotten into that market as well and they've taken a -- to go in and fill that void that Blackberry has.
And I T managers and CIO's love windows and Microsoft because of their systems are already built to support those business needs.
So it really is a difficult situation for Blackberry but what we've seen from the Blackberry ten.
-- rumors and the leaks images.
It looks nice it looks great.
And -- the needs of the business world still rely heavily on Blackberry.
A lot of younger generation.
Users will tend to gravitate towards.
The Apple iPhone or of the Google's Android system.
And it is interest in.
How Blackberry will embrace that market.
And what do you think.
It's a very tough situation Blackberry is.
Promising to release a -- -- number of handsets so that they can focus more on their core products.
And -- an evidence of that as they've shut down seven of their ten factories in Canada or planning to in the near future.
They -- and all rumors point to.
Licensing the product out to other manufacturers.
So you're looking at Samsung HTC or Nokia making.
-- branded phones.
And that would that may entice some users who are loyal to Samsung and -- -- -- HTC to jump over to Blackberry phone.
It is kind of a daunting task they've taken a lot of missteps over the past.
Few months and over the past year and well they've been losing a ton of market share and that's another obstacle goal of the new CEO.
To gain that that lost market share and expand the Blackberry network.
But it is quite daunting.
The certain features that we all miss those of us who are now on the iPhone but that'll be a tough market to recapture -- -- -- nice to meet you thank you so much thank you.
I we're gonna move on now and we're gonna talk about -- that's probably pretty important to you and that's whether or not -- getting a real.
-- nice picture on your screen joining me talk about that is -- -- our editor in chief of laptop magazine great to meet you thank you for joining us today.
Mark I remember sometimes -- buy a laptop I have to imagine the technology is much better now days.
And he'd be missing eight pixel -- hit it would throw everything off.
Yet you haven't had that excellent something like that you have about a track so no no -- -- How much more sophisticated as the technology now in the quality care when you buy a new laptop for example well in the laptop -- I think people should be paying close attention to the resolution of the notebook that they're shopping for -- the standard one -- thirteen 66 by 768.
But the person selling -- is gonna try to talking into probably the best one was yeah expensive right -- can be but what you know we're actually been pleasantly surprised by some of laptops that are coming -- on the market so for example Vizio.
And they're known for making value -- TVs.
They're going to be coming out with a laptop this summer that has a which they call -- plus resolution so 16100 by 900 higher resolution better picture quality I saw in person during an unveiling a New York.
And it's gonna be less than 900 bucks and at Wal-Mart so even though that's higher than your typical laptop this.
This is an ultra books and it's nice and thin and has one of the best displays in the market so for me that's good news because it sort of tells everyone else like Dell and HP like you really have to up your game.
We have like six signs that you put yeah.
That your gadget screen -- second half which is probably could.
Inclusion -- come to potential really noticed the different depths of the first -- is resolution when he talked about.
Can't be seen in the sun -- -- -- -- out there are a lot of the reading devices like that electronic books yes a big issue same for laptops.
Well not so much some laptops but definitely for Smartphones so for example one of the hottest phones on the market right now is the Samsung galaxy S three.
And indoors indoors this this four point eight inch display is beautiful but when you take it outdoors it's actually not quite as bright.
As the iPhone for -- And if you're using -- what -- -- -- at the beach or just walking across the street or whatever you want the brightest display possible so we actually did a video outside.
And we -- people that hey look.
This is great if you watch if you're doing entertainment and if you're showing the same website I'll show you the same web -- loaded on -- you can see.
That one is brighter than the other half and so this is gets more pronounced when you're outside it's amazing when you're dealing with glare right so.
There's nothing wrong with this phone but I think people should know what they're getting.
When they're in the store and the committee can say hey look.
A lot of carrier sleep test drive a device for thirty days so use those thirty days to make sure that you can see all that content that you want when -- outside.
That's been very important -- viewing angles yes I have a lot with class months.
With TV stint you have to -- sick sometimes it's better now than it was right in front of it right as opposed to off to -- -- so a lot of laptop manufacturers in particular really skin when it comes to viewing angles because.
At the end of the day it's most important for that person who's right in front of the screen to see it.
But if you -- let's -- share a presentation with someone or a couple people are watching a movie.
That's side to side giving and it was important and also pure business traveler.
If that person you don't want to -- side to side as well.
-- they sell privacy filters for that but let's say what I'm talking about his vertical viewing -- so right now your laptop is at an angle.
But ideally you should be able to look at the screen and sealed information even when it's that ninety degrees because what happens when that person in front of you for clients all the way.
That means that you have to.
If you're going like this with your laptop you have to worry about whether or not your screen is gonna crack.
So better vertical viewing angles like when -- in the store go up to that laptop and put it closer to you and -- -- still make up the screen so that's what I mean by.
Wider viewing angles not to side to side but also vertical.
-- OK and then we were also going to talk about.
Whites aren't white thing -- happen so that.
That means that if you're looking at a website and the white background actually is more towards like a blue tinge to -- that's not a good sign you want the best color accuracy.
That you can -- one of our tricks is if you're on -- website where if you go into the address bar and just type in about Colin.
And you'll actually take you to a web page that's perfectly white -- -- I'll tell you you can look at it and look at it compare couple things for your best -- paper yeah.
So when your best buy you can actually tell whether or not that.
Why is really what that's brilliant pick -- up.
Clare -- morgue where we talked about it with Smartphones yes other devices as well.
Yeah especially what tablets I think it's it's sort of -- get -- we haven't seen any map displays and that's sort of like the opposite of class.
But for pro laptops -- sort of coming back -- to vote because a lot of people.
Don't like having that Aussie -- to the point where there's so many reflections he can even make out what's on the screen -- if you're seeing more of what's behind you than what's on the display that that's an issue.
So that's why a lot of manufacturers are looking at anti glare screen so serious has an ultra book it's called the US 31 those and the prime.
And in our tests we actually thought it was even better than the MacBook Air so.
And a lot of business notebook manufacturers also do anti glare or what's called matte screen so if you don't want -- if you -- -- use it outside pass from Matt.
Great definitely will do and great minds if you see him.
-- -- -- what you gridlock so you know the capacity -- -- the ability to do touch on the screen there's a capacity of sensors on the display.
But some of the cheaper may tablets that we've tested there's one from -- -- and some that were under 200 dollars.
If you go up close to the screen and you see the actual grid lines on it.
That tells you that they so they cut some corners in terms of design and just tells you that it was cheaply made -- just put that one right back on the.
It's enough and then the only other thing it says here is that number display on your gadget out this.
The number of the -- yes so I think that's just.
Numbers like this can also mean pixels I think I think about them again I think -- six tips and make sure that we bring home the best advice we can get and -- it's really nice to meet to you as well come back -- an opportunity been here before I have the three guys that -- I could tell that are we're gonna take a quick break we'll be right back much more for you.
All your devices.
They -- ER.
I have the sun is shining and the waves are just rushing -- and if you want to bring all your great stock to the beach or the pool or even just on a sweaty -- Make Baker's gonna help the out right now because water can do.
Lot of damage but you have to know it doesn't so you know you're heading to the -- -- -- this weekend I have some waterproof gadgets that you can.
Used to protect your captaincy already have and bring with you for a little fun to have you tests.
-- them yes -- -- them.
I dumped this in the bathtub and this is the dry case okay come this is 3999 for the phone case that iPad case also appeared.
Headed towards the water that is 5999.
Sad and you have to go to the water with your iPad iMac if the kids call it can understand the phone and it really I read they'll offer my iPad so -- I love to read on the beach so I do bring my iPad -- -- On the -- can be submerged a hundred C and it'll stay waterproof with us an email I now and it's touch screen so you can play with your -- through these cases when I love it and you know he -- to -- high rate of nine dollars is not -- Now I don't think we've had a -- You can order it online I had an article up on foxnews.com and -- -- -- all -- products where you can find out where you can -- so we're going shopping happened on -- okay for you can't -- -- next up this is really fun this is called eco terror boom box.
So this boom box even -- throw into the water you stick your phone right in here and plug it in and you can play all of your music straight and they -- -- -- And you can -- in the water and it automatically will say it lands on the side.
It'll flip some people -- hearing is a coordinated one and bring it to the -- is on its back as close as we do and we can -- -- So that bird park closes yeah closes completely airtight and anti -- wouldn't -- what they can't use one of these and your device does get -- to these companies stand behind it -- -- I'm getting to look into that should they deal because.
You know they guaranteed it.
You know up to a certain.
You know I think -- -- -- to a certain point it will stay at Waterford.
And I'm so curious that hook on the side of this what do you Wear this on your -- thinking -- -- saying you're going kayaking or something okay and you can put it -- the I thought for sure it went around your neck that it might be completely.
Put on your shoulder but that was released -- and eighties anymore.
Come and then us the last one is really nice up and tell me they -- towels for working now and for the B -- -- and they have waterproof pockets that you -- means that you can put your gags -- married -- put your keys and narrower say you have your wallet at the beach island and you are -- you have that -- -- Nicely hidden away it's protected.
And this beach towels and really cool -- has it -- -- really come to delay on soft that's 3499 and that's how that's great.
I'm sorry that it says tower made on time because if people see that film though you may have -- the pockets with yeah -- don't know whether this.
Fabric of the pillar you're all set so have been able to see any fit me.
Part of this week and we all go to that the well knowing you volunteers thank you very ignorant and in this is screaming this is really useful and you said the articles out on -- -- -- comment area.
Yes and you can in Powell also treated out baker and mean.
And you can go there and mock up of the products that you're not a follower -- -- -- -- -- -- She knows all the -- stuff anymore.
I'm very different on weekends.
