Fox News is America's election headquarters of course and right now there are some new questions about president Obama's campaign strategy.

A Wall Street Journal column suggesting the reelection team is veering off course from its winning tactics.

In 2008 by making appeals to small groups that could risk alienating crucial voting blocs.

Let's talk about it with -- you go the editorial page editor for the Wall Street Journal -- 2008.

Was all about hope and change for the Obama team big themes big picture items sort of -- an appeal to a broad swath of -- -- After -- that was tired of the Iraq War and maybe tired of eight years of the bush administration and he's trying to recreate that.

It's not the enthusiasm at least the same numbers of voters.

Because he really did well very very well among black African Americans who did well among Hispanics huge chunks -- -- 9% of the Republican vote.

That's right that's right so the problem is that he's doing much less.

Well this time -- market political independence for example he's doing worse among.

Whites who don't have a college degree -- the most economically stressed.

We try to mobilize specific groups of voters for example with with specific policies and political appeals for example young people gonna hit him on the student loan rate.

That they're -- we'll try to mobilize them that -- African Americans who sent Eric Holder to talk about -- voter ID laws this week at the NAACP.

Convention.

They want to get that African American turnout up.

Again and -- worried it won't be.

The gay marriage for instance all of a sudden the president comes out in favor of game there yeah that's about not so much gave voters a -- imparted is gay donors in particular.

It's still a relatively small portion of the electorate who are actually gay Americans but it's about.

Appealing to the liberal electorate and making sure that they're mobilized and if you have trouble among the broader electorate.

-- -- you gotta go with these specific groups well that's what I was gonna say what's the what's the danger of your shorter much micro targeting small voting -- what's the danger what you can you can alienate some of the larger groups for example if you if it looks like that's who you're appealing to and you don't have a larger vision.

A larger narrative aboard a second term would be like or a record that you can the -- You're not gonna have the same kind of optimistic appeal it's -- it's it's it's it's it's narrow work in at some cases it's based not so much on hope.

But I'm fear and that tends to be honest -- -- -- message.

-- -- -- from the wall street journal editorial page editor Paul thank you you can catch Paul tomorrow he'll be hosting The Journal Editorial Report 2 PM eastern time right here on fox.
