Our goal is jobs.
We have to stop spending over a trillion dollars more than we take in every year.
And so.
This ought to do that I'm gonna eliminate every nonessential expensive program I could find.
That includes obamacare and I'm gonna work to reform and save.
Mitt Romney speaking there to members of the NAACP.
And their reaction to his planned to kill obamacare if he's elected president.
That one moment of his speech was what made headlines the next day in the Arizona Republic Romney's speech draws jeers.
In the Philadelphia Inquirer a few boos for Romney in the Washington Post Romney is booed in speech to NAACP.
And from the Houston Chronicle -- come as no surprise.
They had that last one right here -- You know there it was no surprise he got booed you could have written that story the day before.
Yeah but that's created a whole cottage industry with in the media did.
Romney say obamacare on purpose to provoke the -- he -- that would help with the base or is that a miscalculation.
And now of course -- all of opinion on this because thanks to YouTube that that one little -- here I can I -- myself with nineteen seconds.
We can all study it and analyze that what -- -- film.
But what was missed in all of the coverage -- was there were seventeen interruptions for applause and he even got a standing ovation at the at.
Exactly and PR did report that they reported all the way through they reported the gist of what he said and their reaction.
But I think a lot of people miss the fact that.
These standing ovation.
May have been connected to the fact that he -- to show up I mean if 90% of life is just showing up.
He did it and it not only if -- -- didn't help -- the NAACP audience than it does help them with his face and several commentators noted that.
Why it just an inning in an -- when politicians will say anything just to win support for votes or whatever when he says something that he clearly knows is not gonna play well -- that -- venue.
Why doesn't get some credit for.
I think it was trying to come across as somebody who is willing to cross party lines by doing this as someone who wanted to be the president for the entire United States of America.
You know a lot of people commented even the NAACP who overall condemn the speech.
Gave him -- recommendations for bravery for coming to speak to that audience and sausages and at this point both McCain and bush addressed -- convention as well.
Here's the title -- of an LA times story from Sunday Mitt Romney at low key on civil rights in contrasts to his father.
And if -- goes on to read as governor of Michigan George Romney presented pressed an aggressive agenda on the issue.
Putting himself at odds with Republican Party leaders.
His son presents a different figure.
Not that came out right before the NAACP.
-- -- -- speech.
If you read it it it suggests that -- is not nearly as inclined toward civil rights as his father is when.
In fact the facts don't bear that out.
Not only the facts out there about but the timing is so interest in -- in the Los Angeles Times to run this story on the front page above the fold.
Right before the N double ACP convention was purely.
Strategic.
What they tried to do is get out early the fact that -- that Mitt Romney isn't very good on these issues and it's a false narrative imagine if Romney.
Hadn't shown up to the NAACP convention what the media coverage would have been like CNN was atrocious in trying to say that the speech was -- That it was constantly booed and date they had a very one sided.
Review.
Of exactly what the speech was like exactly how Judy was saying they didn't talk about some of the high points -- -- and and when George Romney was governor there was a lot more work to do on civil rights in this country and I mean it.
And that framework around civil rights has changed the deal from the 1960s the issue is no longer elimination of Steve you're a segregation issue is -- affirmative action welfare education.
You know social dysfunction crime.
I mean the issues are infinitely complicated frankly it infinitely different so you can't -- -- the -- on say no except no separate but equal anymore and call that success.
It is no longer obvious at the solutions from the 1960s are all applicable to the team's.
And the media don't -- especially the LA times does -- acknowledge that.
Also there were attacks on him on men running this week before his tenure at Bain Capital.
Both attacks in the press the Boston Globe had a big article which led to.
More attacks from the Obama campaign.
Despite the fact that all the fact checkers seem to say there's nothing here it's really amazing that this outsourcing of jobs and little room to use Jim Pinkerton where'd.
Continues.
To be played again and again by by the Obama campaign when they know it's not factually accurate.
-- following that.
-- the narrative right now is reporters are reporting and other reporters reports from -- to say it could say the Boston Globe is reporting.
It's not journalism it's gossip it's like became a telephone.
And and reporters need to be much better at this and and Politico was this week I think really that.
You heard in regards to Romney's tenure at Bain Capital the Obama campaign says he either lied about when he left or committed a felony in his filings with the SEC.
Here's what John Sununu had to say about that to Sean Hannity.
Can you imagine how dumb.
This president is introducing the concept of felony into the discourse.
When this president comes out of Chicago politics.
Where a felony and politics -- sometimes a synonym.
This is a president who's next door neighbor was Tony rest go.
And president Obama's first real big revenue.
We're we're real estate deals that had odd coincidences in time and space with a Fallon.
-- -- -- There's a president whose political training was -- -- did cheek.
With politicians like convicted felons -- Rod Blagojevich.
And this president is dumb enough to introduce the concept of -- Into the discourse with a guy as clean as Mitt Romney this president is not Smart at all.
Chest and what do you think about those points.
Well you know when it comes in the media coverage of this -- and get out to disagree with Rick I think the media has been a lot more responsible than people are giving them credit for.
We've seen ABC news -- seen.
The Washington Post insisted -- -- who actually came out what the story try to walk it back and say that the administration and the campaign is taking us out of context.
You know the media can't -- Obama team to remove those ads.
The day out there apart on it like that way they -- -- mean to report that the Boston Globe is reporting means he didn't really look into the story.
You actually are just reporting what -- another reporter -- and if that reporter gets it wrong -- in trouble.
And the national journal I believe it was said the facts are getting muddied in and the fact that.
These charges just keep flying back and forth and pretty soon the truth is completely obscure.
