Once reliably red Virginia is up for grabs in this presidential race.

President Obama hoping for a three -- 4012 but can he do it joining us now for a closer look at this key battleground state.

Is Fox News digital politics editor Krista I -- good to see Chris great to be here so can President Obama repeat and 2012 or or is this truly up for grabs and could go to -- score.

Well when we look at a state that's a swing state Virginia is the epitome this year in a lot of ways it's a microcosm of all of the swing states because -- it's right on the razors edge.

And you have of very red part of Virginia all of Virginia is very red.

Except for two key area -- areas really one is the Tidewater area down and that's Hampton roads and Norfolk.

Large African American population strong support for Obama before.

Then you go up in two the Northern Virginia suburbs the collar -- outside Washington DC.

Those are Democrat -- lot of government workers lot of liberals and that that business.

-- but where this battle -- fought.

In the suburbs outside of Richmond and -- -- -- specifically is very important for both campaigns and then the far ex urban counties in metro Washington.

-- in places like Prince William county places like that.

President flip those two blue in 2008 if he can keep them blue well he'll win again but if Mitt Romney can see them back to their prior ways they're prior practices.

As Republican -- he's good.

You know -- in the -- every military areas like Virginia Beach Norfolk Hampton.

The looming sequestration.

And the battle that's being the political battle that's being fought around that and Mitt Romney.

-- an open letter to the president talking all about what the effects of sequestration could be in the military.

How much could that play and to what we -- happen in the military is giant in Virginia and not just for the reasons that you describe but also because you have aside from these defense contractors and military families you also have a large veterans population you have a large active military population.

Now Republicans win with the military that's been the truth -- -- modern era.

Romney a -- so here is that he can run up to square give it up to 65% or so if he does that nationally he can look for Virginia to be pretty good for.

You know President Obama spent a couple of days in Virginia one of his signature lines was I believing in sourcing.

We've -- this whole thing about Mitt Romney and Bain Capital and outsourcing even if a lot of it's just -- and not really based in fact.

Seems to be catching on in Mitt Romney spent all afternoon on Friday.

Doing a round of interviews with fox and some of the other broadcast networks based basically saying are not a -- and that's never a good thing to be doing on a campaign.

That is true repeating the charge reinforces the charge that's true what -- he's hoping to do.

Is.

Reinforced something bad that's happening for the president right now what he wants is to remind people.

Of the 2008.

And Obama 2012 but they've -- -- playing on their -- to write are absolutely and this is the time that we knew we would come to eventually in this campaign John.

We sought he's been -- Republican primaries but this is.

The absolute assault on Mitt Romney's character as it relates to his work in the private sector it's with the -- it's relentless it was on the Sunday shows again today.

And they're gonna continue to pound on that what Romney hopes is is that the president's negatives continue to go up.

Because a president who ran as a healer and unifier.

If he's seen -- continually attacking he's gonna continue to suffer collateral damage in the sway the Obama campaign can keep up this attack to because they've got all that cash from the primary campaign that they have to unload before the general election starts -- -- -- -- trying to protect cash yet -- that's right when he can't spend his prime he he didn't he spent his primary money in the primaries.

So he's got to wait -- the convention.

Now the Romney strategy is what Brit Hume calls the Braveheart strategy.

Which is you get your opponent to the place where you have an advantage a stronger opponent that you grind to a place of weakness for him and then you unleash hell on them and that's what Romney's gonna hope to do and really unload on Obama come September.

All right well let's -- that for -- for Romney's for the sake of the Romney campaign looking at -- from their perspective.

If President Obama has to find him by the and they may have a tough -- Chris it's always great to see it thanks so much you --
