-- this video is chilling a killer whale grabbing a trainer by the foot and dragging him under water for nearly fifteen minutes.

At SeaWorld in San Diego.

Incredibly the -- escaped with just a broken foot this video was released as part of a lawsuit against -- -- over the death of another trainer dawn Rancho.

Now there's a brand new book exposing exactly why this happens joining us now is the author of that book death at sea world.

-- and Carol -- a former SeaWorld orca trainer thanks to both of you for being here.

Thanks don't you Carol I -- -- start with you you trained killer whales like this when you look at that video that we just -- and maybe we can watch it together how do you explain what's happening in this video.

From what I understand there with some turmoil.

Regarding a situation with a calf in the back of the in the back close and so -- events that are happening in.

That behind the scenes of that video that you can't see.

-- that's another whale mother killer whale that that once again play a calf.

Right exactly and even Ken Peters and he is testimony.

When they investigated the incident talked about that half.

Making distress calls.

In the back pool and so I think while you watch the video and you don't necessarily see precursors to weigh it -- Did the event that happens what's happening behind the scenes.

Is probably taking more of her attention and he's she's just getting a message to can that she wants to get out of there and get back with her baby.

Well David you have spent years researching -- do what's gone on at -- world you say that 15%.

Of all the -- ever held in sea world's collection had been involved in serious.

Acts of aggression against their trainers why is that happening.

Well the scientist I talked to -- me that stress.

The captivity is so stressful for these animals.

You have to realize that they stay together in their family groups for life.

They swim up to a hundred miles a day they are extremely intelligent they are very aware of what's going on to them.

And with their surroundings and you take them out of the ocean and put them into these very small refinements.

Create these artificial pods of killer whales from all over the world who would never.

Socialize with each other.

And stress is produced they often sometimes fight with each other and even injure each other.

And we now know that killer whales have killed four people.

In captivity Weller has.

You -- and has been seriously attacked by us a killer well in all of recorded history in the oceans.

Carol you worked his killer whales as a trainer for more than three years did you ever feel in danger.

I know I had situations where animals broke from control and that happens very very frequently.

I never felt like I was in danger when I was working in the water with the way -- I feel very lucky that that was the case I think there is no doubt.

That if I were still there any of these incidents that we're hearing about now could've happened to me or somebody that I know it's.

What went what you say -- broke from control what did that look like and feel like.

-- really depended on the situation and but most often.

They would simply leave you and go do whatever it was that was more important to them at that time and in those instances and you can see them just looking at YouTube videos.

And you can see many of them that haven't.

Quite frequently where they just decide they've got other things going on that are more important to them they leave.

And they might be swimming and chasing each other just.

Completely -- interested.

In working with you.

David I know -- -- -- -- Carol David from your investigation into all this does it seem like there's anything is going to change at places like -- world as a result of these attacks.

Well the government has stepped down and OSHA issued a fine and violation against C -- SeaWorld has removed its trainers from.

The water they now stand on the edge of the stage.

-- would very much like to get to traders back in the water frankly the show is much more exciting when there is that interaction.

But the federal government believes that it simply unsafe because even a -- well goes up behavior.

Less than 1% of the time.

It's those times where the danger is most president.

These are large predators and like Carroll said.

When they decide they're gonna do what they're gonna do.

They do it they have their own opinions about things and it's very hard to bring them back under control -- of course unfortunately Ken Peters as we see what did a remarkable job right.

Answer I will back them David Kirby again the book is called -- at SeaWorld Carol ray you were the former a trainer at SeaWorld thanks so much for coming in their expertise.

Thank you very much -- me it's well it's.
