-- 100 days from the election at this quite hard to believe it felt like just yesterday it was several years out.

But we're getting -- there's a revealing snapshot of the presidential race that you may not have seen before.

Among all voters President Obama is -- governor Romney.

45 to 41%.

But when we drill down to only the most interest in voters those who are really watching the election very closely.

You see the governor Romney has a double digit lead 53 to forty -- So what is that mean for this election here now is Dana Blanton who is our.

Goddess of all things volunteer at Fox News and it's so great to have you here -- you and I were together a lot of polling and right as we watch exit polls over the course of the primary so it's great to having here.

First of all this is a registered voters fall right and we hear a lot folks at home about the likely voters are registered voters which one is better for people to look at.

Well right now we think registered voters are polls of registered voters because we're trying to capture -- opinions.

Of all those who are eligible to vote soon we will move to likely voters.

And that's just to try and get it who will really show up and pollsters do that.

Everybody that that a bit differently but by asking people questions about how interested are you how closely following past voting behavior.

The most important question now.

Is your intention of just asking them how likely are you to vote.

And that's a question that can't accurately be answered.

So far out people will start paying more attention a little bit later and that's -- we can get a good read on who will show up now and that's why not.

-- has played in this because we you know we talk about all the time we're surrounded by -- that's -- a lot of people are doing summer vacation.

And I actually tuned into okay let me completely get right let's take a look at this next one because it goes to this interest -- Extremely interested voters and here again.

We see sort of a progression in July -- You've got those who are extremely interested in the whole thing at 53%.

-- President Obama at 42%.

What is this really telling us what's right what are you -- into -- right.

About 40% of voters right now tell us they are extremely interest in the election.

And that includes more Republicans Tea Party folks conservatives.

Then Democrats and that's been the case for most of this year probably driven by the attention to the nominating process and the coverage that received.

We'll have to see if that continues and I that'll be something to watch to see.

If that additional interest among that voting bloc that obviously is helping Romney.

See if that continues yes and that's the life those transition becoming like right voters with a good proxy for this point in the race so even though it isn't a samples.

Of likely voters I think that -- is clearly at a red.

By President Obama -- -- in the rowdy camp you're happy looking at those numbers and saying look these are but right these are the people right fired up their interest in need to not they're gonna try to to work to get those people to come out turning to likely voters that as -- get closer you know -- -- the things that comes up sometimes when -- out about -- this question.

Well what is America how does it divide how many people aren't Democrats how many people are Republican ranks how many people -- that independent category I just take a look at this because I thought it was so interesting because yesterday you sent us.

Data going back to 2000.

And we put up here just so it's clear for -- -- 2000 -- 2011.

And you can see 42%.

Say they're Democrat 37% say they're Republican which pretty much goes along with the historical -- here that there's.

More people who identify as Democrats in the country -- independent numbers seems to hover somewhere in the eighteen to 22%.

Right right about one in five.

And so the most important thing to think about here is that that -- have registered voter that is and a registration number that.

The questions is how do you think of yourself right and that.

Can change and that's something that's movable to -- on positions on issues and candidates and so.

The thing to remember though is that not all voters vote right and so well and general -- more people identify as Democrats.

When we narrow that down to who will really show up among likely voters that increases the number of Republicans.

And improves the GOP candidates position.

And that independent zone in -- really.

The heart of who decides elections because I look at how close it is -- Democrats and Republicans those are the folks elect presidents right right.
