Branding amber is on the job -- wanna tell you a little bit about 353000.
Americans filed for unemployment in latest week.
-- that's down from the previous week but there are few seasonal factors to consider this -- -- a lot with two weeks so we.
Want to give you a little perspective here's an overview of what this number looks like over the past year as Americans file for.
Unemployment you can see that the trend is better.
But it's certainly choppy at best.
And the economy the number one issue in upcoming presidential election but really the number one issue before the country right now senator Kelly ai is a Republican from New Hampshire senator nice to have you with us today thank you very that he -- benefit yeah I think you did -- learn a little bit more value this mornings I was doing some reading on your website and you realize that when your husband retired from the National Guard he started.
A small business to your family has some really interesting perspective.
On this economy -- -- what it takes -- really.
It's really hire someone really get a business off the ground because of that I'd like he did he really specific what is she what is B keen to.
The GOP's game plan when it comes to job growth right now not in November right now.
Right I can tell you right.
-- -- first of all.
I guess my husband's a small business owner I work with and the start that business he has about twenty employees at the landscaping and snow flying business.
And right now I can tell you -- Republicans will do is that small businesses and large businesses also needs certainty.
Right now the president has said that he wants to raise taxes.
On -- small businesses in this country.
It impacts the tax increases that he is -- impact nearly a million small businesses.
A quarter of the workforce.
Works for those businesses yesterday Republicans voted to extend all the tax rates per year.
And then to put forward a plan for tax reform so that we can get down to really simplifying our code.
And -- rates for everyone.
We need to give the private sector certainly also regulatory climate.
This administration has issued so many job killing regulations and I hear from small businesses all across our state.
And that we need to really create a better climate partnership with the private sector not what this administration has done those two things -- health care.
I want to let me just let me just jump in there before we get too far ahead because.
I wondered if things as odds on the horizon is sequestration in and bring that out -- has that something that has had could have a profound effect on jobs.
There was a rare moment of bipartisanship yesterday.
When this and it's heads of the president they send to bail you cosponsored it.
As -- listen you're gonna have to give us a report and tell us exactly -- the sequestration gonna look likes we can make some decisions -- heard that you're you're in some preliminary negotiations with those from the other side of the aisle.
-- may -- work with this tax -- a little bit now.
-- may -- close some of these tax loopholes that might be sending that Republicans can before as a way to reach across the aisle for a tax agreement.
So sequestration doesn't happen what can you tell us about that.
What I can tell you is it's so important that we stop this sequestration.
Because essentially what our secretary defenses that is that we be shooting ourselves and our head and hauling.
-- our military so we can add a national security crisis -- already our fiscal crisis -- the debt so I am working with others on a bipartisan basis to try to.
Come up with at least -- spending cuts and -- coming up for the deficit reduction -- we've got to do that.
But do it in a responsible way that doesn't put our Department of Defense at risk is that our national security at risk is a very dangerous world out there.
And so I'm not working with members of both sides of the -- on this we -- in the senate that we've got to get Democrats support.
And that requires -- making sure that we look at issues not only spending reductions but there's some things like selling federal -- we can find some revenue sources critic of -- -- -- -- -- lame duck says he's saying don't -- we're looking at.
Revenue in -- on the table so maybe closing tax loopholes that that are out there for firm.
You know upper class and also middle class Americans is that something that's on the table we're looking at some of the foolish tax earmarks you know one examples of that I voted for the past is eliminating ethanol subsidies.
So there's certainly some tax earmarks in the code we're looking at those we're not gonna do anything that increases tax rates because I think that would be foolish.
For our economy would hurt our businesses that we need to be cognizant of economic growth in doing this.
But you know sequestration we're facing just on the defense industrial base nearly a million.
Job loss in January we don't address this but most importantly we're putting our men and women.
In the military in a position where we're not keeping faith -- them.
Seven -- nice to have you today we look for to have you can act as -- -- about a whole host of other issues including Syria leading gets back today.
But thank you for your IMM with -- banking and we'll be right back with more happening now.
