Written in part for the opening ceremonies of the Olympics and some in the mainstream media are making a big deal over a comment by the governor there.

Upon his arrival in Great Britain.

The presidential candidate saying in an interview with NBC he found some reports of London's preparations for the Olympics quote disconcerting.

He later did clarify and soften those remarks a bit but the comments were jumped on by the British press and by some in the United States.

Britain's prime minister responding when they point to dig at the Salt Lake City games is that governor Romney once ran.

David Cameron saying it must be easy to have the Olympics quote in the middle of nowhere.

Some in the mainstream media then pounced checked out the front pages of the New York Times the Washington Post and the Boston Globe.

So is all of this hype legitimate or is it just a tempest in a teapot joining us on -- news watch panel.

-- -- Miller -- Pulitzer Prize winning investigative reporter.

Kirsten Powers is a columnist for the Daily Beast both are Fox News contributors you know all of the analysts have been saying that.

Anything could happen with the election and -- one of these candidates makes a serious mistake.

It could cost them votes.

I'm not sure that the Olympics you know criticizing the Olympics is one -- -- is it rises to that level but it does it show that these candidates have to be very careful with.

What they -- right and maybe you know both the British press had a field day and the tabloids in particular Mitt the twit this one headline.

Of course they're gonna beat up crime he didn't make some surprising missteps like he didn't know for example the name of the opposition leader.

He did say that he had met with the -- at MI six which is not anything you're supposed to be talking about but.

It's really small bore.

And located here to got a first look.

People like in terms of your right and nobody's gonna did not vote for Mitt Romney because this happened but the point of this trip was.

In part to shed -- he's not a novice on foreign policy the kind of -- on the world stage and this was supposed to be really easy part of the trip this is not -- be difficult.

And what he -- was also just very strange because he he basically said the problem is -- the British people so it's just sort of bad manners which I would never associate with Mitt Romney actually the -- because Charles.

-- -- on number a number of -- shows said that you know I was incomprehensible.

-- he made this big error he said all he had to do was you know and sit there and look good room and shut up but it would have been fine but.

What -- the interesting thing to me though is that he he said this in an NBC interview.

They didn't run it for 24 hours they ran the other stuff about you -- news I guess you'd call -- the important stuff.

And then after the British media picked it up then all of a sudden NBC.

Is leading NBC news -- nightly news 24 hours after after -- they have the take.

Right well better late than never it's kind of like the -- -- -- mark that also didn't get.

Picked up in the beginning about small business you know once you understand that it's a new story that the brits are reacting to it you're -- act -- it elect once -- One of the web sites that watches the news called media IATA here's what they put them -- -- about it and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's gaffe in Great Britain on Thursday in which he.

Called into question London security preparations ahead of the Olympics.

Has been greeted with a mix of scorn and -- in both the British and American press.

The British press having some fun with Romney's slap at London's Olympic preparedness.

But the fourth the stayed in England has been far from neutral towards president Barack Obama.

And his numerous anti British gas indeed.

They have been rather for giving is this just a case -- of the British media especially the tabloids going after the Republican Party.

I'm not sure what his -- He didn't give a DVR to the queen didn't work which -- actually do it all the iPod -- Obama yeah yeah yeah that's how loaded with his -- -- -- -- -- -- I feel like you got a lot of grief for that actually.

And the criticism in the media packs it in Britain didn't just come from the liberal media the telegraph actually did an editorial criticizing him what he criticized the people.

That that that was the mistake he basically said while having NC you know.

Seems to be going well except for what the people be able to come together -- -- -- with a number of the good that -- but he also talked about you know security guards you hadn't been properly -- I mean -- -- a lot of complaints or questions about the preparedness of that city and I think he was absolutely right about that in fact I think the use of the word disconcerting is kind of the British understatement.

It -- shocking.

That after but you know all of this preparation they were down several thousand security people.

At an event that we all knew might be target and I think that he was right it was just not very diplomatic.

Here's another quote from Mitt Romney that you might not hear a great deal about this was said in a private fundraisers so.

You might not it wasn't done on camera -- Brian Williams but he he's saying to the London people he says you live here you see the -- Day in and day out but for me as I drive past the sculpture of Winston Churchill.

And see that great sculpture next Westminster Abbey and parliament and with him larger than life.

And I'm looking forward to the bust of Winston Churchill being in the Oval Office again.

Now if you know your history you might recall -- four years ago when Barack Obama.

-- took the Oval Office there was this busts.

Some of Winston Churchill that have been prominently displayed there by I think several presidents buster Ibaka on that Obama.

Box it up and sent it back I was -- George Bush after 9/11 but this is the most craven thing actually that he's done in awhile.

Because he in a book that he wrote which some excerpts were sent around.

He actually said the only reason that -- that -- Britain didn't fall to the Nazis is because there are separated by water from Europe.

So that's a direct insult to Winston Churchill and now suddenly he's -- wouldn't look like grabbed onto this thing because I guess conservatives are upset -- the -- got some back.

-- it was upsetting.

It doesn't ask you believe in a very special relationship between in the UK and I look.

I think that the brits are just kind of getting a sense that this guy and you're gonna discovered that he can make as many misstatements over -- as he makes here.

Mean Mitt Romney has done this again and again whether or not it's.

Large bets that don't seem to cost very much and his stratosphere are I mean he does this settle.

That's me.

All right and get used to it he's on the campaign stage for another hundred days at least a variety beyond we'll see.
