Apple the firestorm over chick filet president and -- his remarks about same sex marriage.

Has reached -- full throttle religious leaders gay activists and politicians are all weighing in on the controversy.

And that begins a spirited debate panel discussion on the panel out of DC Johnny more of Liberty University.

And in Dallas bishop reverend Harry -- and senior pastor of hope Christian church welcomed -- about.

-- -- -- -- -- Now -- to get you first because you actually.

Are at one of the most conservative Christian.

Institutions.

In America -- Liberty University but you also.

Deal with a lot of young people and I'm interested to hear what your view on this is right now what do you think.

You know and in my opinion I I think that somehow the whole thing this has been blown out of proportion but it doesn't surprise me at all.

You know chick filet is a hate enormously enormously popular southern institution its overt with its values -- values are mainstream.

It's it doesn't surprise me that when when someone that's you know start -- on on -- -- people are going going crazy about it and so I know at Liberty University we like 63 chick -- is within out within a mile you know.

And you can't think of anything more kind of southern and fried chicken sweet tea and family values and and sick fully is that I mean that's what it is and so.

It seems like you cannot pick on anything but those things Allen then it somehow.

You know calling someone a big hit seems awfully -- Be getting myself so.

Yeah and Harry Harry appeared Jackson what do you think about this whole controversy.

Well chick -- has been a model.

Of virtue and -- stood for some great things over the years.

Now a radical.

Gay activist group in my opinion.

Is trying to really -- morality.

And I want to reach out to the -- -- -- -- we want a person reach out for them and affirm them.

I believe -- we don't do something now there's going to be an attempt to draw a line persecute.

And try to make.

Right wrong and to redefine morals and ethics in the United States is part of this ongoing campaign.

And as you know Lauren we're beginning a defense of marriage campaign.

It will start in the month of August -- -- seven swing states so I believe that's important in this time.

For us to hold the line those of us who believe in marriage.

And to make sure that we don't get visible all these laws -- find out from under us.

By over actions are almost oppressive and not democratic.

I get the feeling that this isn't one of -- it.

You know issue his -- problem here or one -- conviction here is that he actually spoke out about it because it seems as though.

People who actually.

Leaving.

In a traditional marriage or oppose same sex marriage.

Have have not really had a strong voice out there and that's been the strategy to what everybody's sort of talks about it if they disagree with the idea of gay marriage there immediately labeled as a hate monger or a home -- Or racists and and and and Johnny I that's I wanna talk to you because you've got young people and young people.

Across the board -- much more supportive of gay marriage and and and and homosexuality then.

And then the older generation even even on campus like Liberty University where her kids you're talking to -- Well you know -- I I think that deep the idea within evangelical young people of marriage between being between a man and a woman is and all that that controversial.

And -- -- may be true that of millennium is more generally in the country they're they're they're more in favor of same sex marriage but what what we've got to understand here though.

Is that chick police position is -- mainstream position we've had a marriage amendment passed in 31 states and evangelical young people -- churches you know believing that sent.

You know I wonder if more evangelicals.

That are running businesses not just pastors and leaders kind of spoke to this issue.

If you know maybe the movement would would be a little little stronger but but you know young people are -- -- -- it is a peer pressure thing that's happening.

Happening here two and one of the messages that this is sending is that if you pick on this one issue -- -- after yet.

You know and it's not a problem for like JC Penney to have Ellen DeGeneres as a spokesperson nor you know for Kraft -- to do an advertisement of the rainbow colored Oreo.

But god forbid that chick filet go -- embrace values and you know it should placing great company and they put kids through college they have a Foster care ministry -- camp.

And so I I think that you know at the polls are are a little you know -- because young people -- influenced by by peer pressure and you know what they believe isn't necessarily what they're over there -- they're willing to say and and the real danger here is that the evangelicals don't speak -- I mean.

And there's some some kind of momentum and in a collective voice and -- I don't think that young evangelicals are you know as in a -- some people may think they.

-- you know what -- I think Johnny -- -- a good point is that you know the church position is really not been made clear.

The one thing that the church people always say because god doesn't allow this but they have not been able to speak in the language of a secular.

World view and in terms of understanding why the church believes is why is this.

-- why is.

Heterosexual marriage the the legal standard of marriage for religious people.

And you know for second -- be able to -- white they say that -- -- Do you feel like the church has not been able to communicate with it because as far as I can see they really -- not very vocal about.

No we haven't made our case in the public square I think.

In Jimmy Carter's era it was taught in Sunday school don't cross the boundary.

Vote but don't articulate your.

Views don't.

Cross the boundary of church and state.

My generation.

Is more activist driven but yet and still we assume that every -- believes certain things.

Now -- in your face gay activist movement.

We haven't sold if you will the underlying principles why this is wrong in terms of this social.

Implications to our communities and you're right there's a disconnect.

And so he would call us Vegas.

I have won the argument temporarily.

And that's why they're groups that I work and we have.

Are -- make a big case starting that's obvious and take it to political and the social.

Arenas to discuss this issue.

It it seems as though that if you if you have this sort of policy or if you hadn't been a bit nervous and a stand up and say I'm against same sex marriage.

You almost stood up alone may mean Webber what was on your side -- college is hang out there -- by yourself.

And thank Kathy.

You know god love you know it may -- he didn't realize that you know he was gonna get this kind of reaction because he's been in the company of you know his own kind for so long would it you know Johnny from the sound what do you think.

And what -- I I think that kind of the rhetoric in the public square is disproportionate to the mainstream opinion and and that's a problem I mean.

Yeah I'm I'm a young evangelical grew up an evangelical church and what of the evangelical church not.

Done very well.

Marriage you know 50% divorce rate you know all of these things that are happening to the seems to be a real disconnect between belief and behavior in the situation and it's less -- the credibility of the church -- -- It it might my opinion is that some one of the reasons -- think boomer evangelicals are so vocal on this issue -- because they're struggling with their own marriages and life and and these sorts of issues.

And so then you've got a generation like my generation that's grown up in a largely secular culture and you know we're not getting our values from the church anymore we're getting our values from the culture that we're growing up -- And so.

You know this isn't something that -- just -- is you don't get by osmosis I mean it's gotta be passed on to the next generation and the family unit in the marriage.

Is the means by doing that him and -- hasn't done while.

Let me let me read a couple but just the coming in here of -- for John -- from Sacramento he says I could really care less what a business believes if I did there would be a whole bunch of -- -- I wouldn't shop that.

Same with movie stars I can't stand John delicately -- -- personal -- earlier.

But it -- and it's a mother's -- Randy snow says I think chick -- as long as they follow the law.

Can market anyway they want there's a very big point because it was -- can't these personal comments about what -- did what he believes as well.

But also it doesn't.

Hasn't come translated into policy of discriminatory kind of hiring war heading up -- -- franchises that sort of thing.

So there's a there's a big difference there are also Charley Reese -- -- says homosexuals and liberal mayors.

Governors need to get over this stance that chick filet is taking on same sex marriage.

The majority of Americans are against -- -- practice anyway.

I think this debate is gonna be going on for for quite awhile because it got they appreciation day next week as well as other protests by the gay activists so we'll.
