Divorced for a man they want to make sure that their mail clients get a fair shake in a system which traditionally favors women some say.
-- do men really -- actually that your protection in the courtroom during the four.
Proceedings let's talk to divorce attorney.
Joseph -- his firm specializes in representing -- Andrew is here in New York is divorce attorney Mickey Ziegler she's the author of the pre marital -- welcome to both of -- morning.
Good morning thank you have me on you bet Joseph let's start with you why do men need extra protection in the courtroom.
Well you know you can you can look it simply that the statistics and overwhelming.
And fact is that you know.
Did that the corner of the room among civil rights causes in America that is neglected skill is that the rights of man in domestic relations cases.
Sure it in -- historically men have if you look at the stats been the underdog when it comes to things like custody hearings in battles and stuff like that.
Certainly but you don't need a male attorney quite frankly to zealously advocate on behalf of the client certainly represented certain.
-- many many men we're looking for shared custody looking for alimony and video it to me it's gender neutral in terms of representation.
It's the laws as the judges common it's really zealous advocates -- that's really what gets the client the results and representing many men in my career.
Sometimes there's professional chemistry that goes on sometimes certain clients want a female sometimes they want -- But is certainly -- -- -- you're gonna ostracized.
One guy genre just because you think that they're going to be disadvantaged in the court is certainly not what I eat since subscribe to.
And especially I don't think is needed -- Well the first well -- wanna clarify misunderstanding.
-- and Kordell is not comprised.
Just male attorneys that we were probably the largest domestic relations firm in America.
-- attorneys across the US and probably 60% of our attorneys are women.
In fact the other Cordell of Cornell -- -- my wife.
So you're right doesn't.
It does it matter that that the gender of the attorney what matters is that the mindset.
In the in the attitude to the attorney regarding discrimination.
Mean it it's understandable that guys are gonna be pre disposed to hire an attorney.
-- at least think knowledge is that these statistics such is not a 7%.
Of the alimony orders in America are issued against me and what.
That doesn't that smell of something of -- answers termination at least as a firm we acknowledge that that discrimination exists.
-- and let me tell you that the statistics show that women are paying more and more -- way to becoming the bread winners and it's a huge disparity -- com.
And quite frankly I think statistics say 10% 20% have gone up in the last twenty to thirty years I think that's changing.
And you have a valid point at the end of the day I think as long as the attorneys looking for the best interest of the client and it doesn't really matter what you generate you're gonna go out and zealously advocate fight for your client no matter what the -- -- and as attorneys were not -- an -- -- into it we're supposed to look at the law and apply the facts and that's what I think we re probably.
We do sure but one of the problems Joseph and I'll give you the final word is the fact that a lot of the laws that you're talking about were written 506070.
Years ago when a lot of mainly it was a man who were the breadwinners.
Yeah and -- -- I grant you -- at some consolation that there's been however glacial -- slow some progress.
But it's not enough it wasn't enough in the south in the sixties.
Forced to progress at the rate that we did in nor should we tolerate these sorts of this discriminatory practices and family courts against -- -- -- -- -- the entire bar will acknowledge at least acknowledge among itself.
Less inclined to do so out of the public.
All right -- generate different today Vicky Ziegler and Ned judo move Cordell of -- -- Cordell -- in Saint Louis give our best to your wife -- Thank you for joining us today thank you very much you back.
