Him well this weekend girls from all across the country competed for this year's title of miss teen USA but only one went home with the car.
Ladies and gentlemen this.
Teen USA.
2012.
Is.
-- -- Happy and lucky for us as soon as all that cheering stopped she headed straight for our studio miss teen USA.
Logan west around Connecticut joins me now good morning congratulations.
Mary and I thought you -- when you when you were doing calisthenics -- -- I -- -- really got -- well that's called a true reaction in -- moment of sheer joy and I -- -- it was a long road for you to get there part of your story.
In becoming this empowered woman how he is that you're -- And let's as a kid I was really in the seventh grade -- asked me who told me I did not act my skin color so for six months in school I was tortured humiliated.
And ultimately just lost to I was -- was no longer the -- a city.
So in the process of losing myself and after suffering consequences from retaliating against my -- I found the program bully proof empowering children today to prevent -- tomorrow.
So no student would have to face -- I hit I wanna get to what that program is getting.
A minute but.
Let's talk a little bit about the details because so many parents and can go through situations like these with their children in school.
And they feel helpless to a certain extent because like you -- mom went to the school today and said this is happening to my daughter Logan what happened and.
He -- -- said don't worry about everything's going to be okay we'll take care of and they actually sat -- -- night and the counselors office for twenty minutes by ourselves.
Nothing was said nothing was done to but I think as a parent -- relentless you can't just say I think in the -- hands and eleven just you would ever.
You have to constantly -- -- them and say it is it okay at my school how was my child doing because only so much can be done from home but you have to trust the school to a certain extent right exactly it has to.
So what ended up happening because you.
You thought that the result in many parents myself included would think that this would be the right thing to do with that you retaliated back against the bullying what happened.
I was suspended I had equal consequence he -- Known and how she hunts she punched you think it -- -- I -- to back up and hit me right in my face no -- no hitting.
But I -- was suspended for two days and it was over those two day that I realized I was the victim I did nothing wrong.
And how is it that I was getting the equal consequence so I think was over those days I developed -- -- -- -- either have to be away can teach students what they need to do.
-- prevent themselves from being that situation so by 1415.
You had turned this situation around the girl actually left school which helped yes and you came up with this new program.
Let's look at some of the tips that are incorporated and and wild what an honor you view this program is now on all the schools in Connecticut in any of them.
Here are some of the tips tell the bully what they're doing is bothering you yet he's -- -- the -- -- -- to speak -- -- absolutely because sometimes.
If they really don't know that setting you they can't stop but they're doing.
Okay use the word stop it's only one word but it can get a message across absolutely that's another across -- that you won't tolerate heavily.
Get up and walk away from the situation yes I would -- the police have -- they wanna fool me wanna turn down but they never wanna get caught.
So go to a safe place if you throughout the teacher insular group of friends they won't -- -- -- -- think -- get caught.
Talk to your friends but don't try to gain up on the bully what -- -- absolutely -- I know I tend to be shy so -- being -- and I think my best -- my sister along with me just to tell the bully.
What is going on they're not there to -- anything -- tonight an opportunity being up on the bully or switch roles.
But rather than there for moral support -- feel comfortable saying what needs to be -- to finally tell an adult it's not tackling if someone is hurting you -- -- -- -- Kids get caught up and saying it's paddling if I'm saying something's going on but you have to speak up because you don't speak up nothing gets that.
The silver lining here is that you told me in the commercial break that this was horrible experience -- -- you as a person is there a better person as a result how.
I turn this negative experience and something posit that was my whole goal in this program as a way of not only -- incidents I was helping myself -- each and every presentation.
So I think that as a way of finding -- -- and I found a whole new piece of me that.
Personally -- felt like it's become public ten other students but I think it's -- you confidence within myself that I went through a horrible situation but look Bryant now look where you are.
You are miss teen USA wonderful representative you very best of us teacher -- -- Logan west.
