Another needle is apparently turned up an airline food this time Air Canada reports that a -- found what looked like a sewing needle inside a pre made sandwich.
On AirTran on a trans Canada flight earlier this week.
Police say that -- caused minor injuries to the flyer.
This comes just a couple weeks after folks discovered as many as six needles in Turkey sandwiches served on delta flights to the United States.
She thought -- correspondent Jonathan Hunt is with us now so what are the details of this latest -- discovery -- shut.
We just spoke to the cops are investigating this up in Canada they told it is that they were made aware of this incident on Monday evening the flight was going from.
Victoria British Columbia to Toronto.
Apparently a passenger bit into this sound would you walls by the needle.
They say they're investigating what they call suspicious circumstances all obviously -- -- into the investigation to try to find the origin when and where.
That needle was placed into that particular -- -- Canada meantime.
Told us in a statement quote safety is always our top priority so we are taking this matter very seriously.
As soon as we were made aware we immediately contacted the caterers the provision -- flights and a full investigation is under way.
We are working closely without caterers to ensure all heightened security measures have been put in place the cults also told us.
They believe there is no immediate threat to public safety.
This that they believe was an isolated incident.
What what about the Eagles on that delta flight anything new -- that that's a much more complex investigation the FBI looking into it here but leading the investigation a Dutch cops over -- Amsterdam where all of the flights originated.
Remember here you have six needles in six sound which is almost four different planes delta say they take this matter very seriously.
That cooperating with all the agencies looking into this and obviously everybody wants to find out what the heck was going -- leadership.
His fronting for everybody was kind of weird yeah Jonathan Hunt thanks joining us now is the former managing director of the national transportation security ministry National Transportation Safety Board.
Peter -- is with the speed and as a bigger issue here.
And that is security is frankly -- except for everything but our water bottles and our shoes coming off and everything else -- really lacks.
It does seem that way and it seems -- as though if somebody really -- intent to broach the security.
System they they can.
But the reality is is on the big issues we have been very safe.
Over the past few years and get things like needles and see images are very disturbing there's no question about that.
But it's not a threat to well flight safety but people ought to be careful.
And the police sort of take this very seriously.
Peter what you got here that this is that we're looking at something like a disgruntled employee with a catering company or old could people being written and a terror group -- testing.
I don't I don't see what the week this they'd they'd be testing I think you're talking about just just a disgruntled employee or somebody on balance.
Who's who's doing this sort of thing in the one and Canada is very likely a copycat.
Kind of event a one off -- -- but I think gets shipments in the that that's police Sergio mentioned the Dutch police are taking it very seriously and as is the FBI they've they're gonna find out who did this and why.
Peter when this -- incident happened so many of us heard maybe for the first time.
But how lax security is behind the scenes.
For people who work there for people who make deliveries to the airport the caterers and all the rest it's it was surprising to find out how little.
A few checks there really are.
Well they don't screening employees who get into secure areas.
But that's screening does not happen you know every three months it's not a particularly in depth screening so so they can be gaps to get in there.
But you know really the TSA.
We'll tell you and I think they're right on this.
That this is a layered approach others if you can get by one layer you can get by another layer but eventually you're gonna get Graham.
And if something serious is is being planned and I think I think evidence shows that's right.
But be -- we always focus on baggage in the risks that for a terror attacks.
This I guess is at least an example that there are many many other ways for terrorists if they wanted to to get to allow public -- -- system.
Absolutely -- media and that's that's the scary thing about it is.
Is is that if if and the terrorists or us or somebody -- really wants to -- this.
There's a myriad of ways to do it and you know unfortunately we're gonna have to be alert we're gonna have to keep adapting.
Peter goals a -- with -- -- thank you.
