Mr.
chairman I want change the subject a little bit you who oversaw hearing this week and regarding the General Services Administration another video as you have seen.
Hasn't surfaced from a conference in Crystal City Virginia and when he ten which I showed.
Members.
The general services administration and its.
Federal acquisition service and we.
Being handed out these these -- that noise makers and and chanting -- to rhythms it was a news -- absurd looking thing.
It cost taxpayers a lot of money one of 77 conferences that have now surfaced since Las Vegas fiasco is this.
An agency that is indeed of an overhaul.
Well absolutely and again since I became chair.
We held the first hearing in -- -- Federal building -- two blocks from the White House empty for fifteen.
Years.
And started an investigation of GSA is the biggest property owner -- well in the world that it the holes that.
All the properties and buildings and trust for the American people.
We knew that there administrative -- expenses has soared 300% we've been trying to find out where.
Then we came where -- inspector general and other information gathered to see these conferences that we're wasting millions of taxpayer dollars on the latest one that those were drum sticks actually -- -- -- -- -- handed to me yesterday they cost the taxpayer.
20000.
Dollars another 35000.
Dollars -- Picture frames that we're going after these agencies at least under my committee's jurisdiction.
One at a time and trying to get rid of the waste.
The that and sometimes fraud and abuse of taxpayer dollars and I understand that the bigger problem with the GSA is not these kinds of conferences but the huge expenditures that we're saying from empty buildings that agency is sitting -- -- -- That global conferences are wasting millions but the billions.
Like these we we turn that building around in one year.
With costing taxpayers.
Eight million dollars a year vacant for fifteen years.
And we now a thousand people will work there and we'll have revenue for the taxpayers.
On Monday will be in Miami we've got we've gotten three hearings and empty buildings in Washington DC the nation's capital.
-- Monday we're gonna go to -- courthouse vacant for five years costing the taxpayers millions.
A year to maintain sitting there -- we're gonna have this top this wasted every agency -- activity it activity of government at that takes us.
Hearing after hearing after hearing why are these government properties could the private sector do something with these empty properties quickly we've got about 22 yeah on the work that.
And the worst part was they intimidated the private sector from even coming to our hearing.
And even.
The TSA officials we've got rid of the first hear that guy on the hot -- now the second -- wouldn't show up because they're involved in the second lay -- -- layer of scandal.
But we're not gonna stop or not gonna let out real quickly -- at a time intimidating the private sector.
-- that we could get any of that people who do this professionally Belden property management large scale.
To come in and testify -- so intimidated.
-- intimidated by GSA.
It's horrible but -- we're gonna find a way.
Congressman -- thank you very much for your timers and following that -- -- more about that this kind of intimidation thank you sir.
