And tonight -- 92 days to go Republicans are striking back at the baseless attacks on Mitt Romney as Nancy Pelosi joins in with a ridiculous statement of -- -- Now tonight Dick Morris senator Joseph Lieberman Fred Thompson and a man rumored to be on Mitt Romney's BP shortlist.

Governor Bob McDonnell will all be here tonight but first I traveled to Wyoming for an exclusive interview with former Vice President Dick Cheney.

To talk vice presidential pick Sarah Palin President Obama and much.

Neither you nor President Bush will be going to the Republican Convention he just made an announcement recently about it.

Why well after you've been there and -- I've been to a lot of conventions haven't gone back to 72.

Nixon reelection convention and then not being for chief of staff -- sort of oversee the cooperation at 76.

They -- a delegate from Wyoming and as a vice presidential candidate.

What you've done all of that to go back now with no role but what -- I do -- in the gallery and watched -- seen on television.

And say I've got there's a few people might -- -- wanna see you do well in -- but and it's an idea.

The Mitt Romney show it ought to be he's our nominee he ought to be -- -- focal point and -- -- I'm -- to do whatever I can't help.

But they don't need -- significant achievement and I'm I'm pretty well known at this stage of the game and this is I'm new here if you will movement and a new set of of office -- -- I think it's very important that we defeat Barack Obama he's been a terrible.

President frankly fundamentally disagree with him on anything and I think -- -- -- is gonna win but that we just -- a big fund raiser for -- here and her home here -- Houston.

Biggest in the history -- one element and so it and a a an effort on my part to do everything we can't but not to get away from -- I -- at the convention -- -- -- -- -- Well not just a little over ninety days to go.

You one of a select group of people that knows that feeling three months out of a presidential election.

Putting -- going through Mitt Romney's mind Jersey just so busy with the day to day activities he probably does not.

Have the perspective.

Well I think he has.

Has probably better perspective that most these sort of at center of it but if you've got some experience at which he clearly does and he's -- to the presidential campaign process before.

When he was a candidate for the nomination.

And I find when I have dealt with him enough talk of himself and miles specially when -- was here.

That he's very well grounded he knows what he wants to do is get a good sense of what his strategy -- -- he's not being.

Affected I don't think -- a lot of them minutia that -- of running for president.

And so I feel pretty good about about where his -- at this stage and one of the things you learned the business is it's very important.

Because the candidates sort of sets the tone for the entire campaign organization.

He got a candidate who spends all of this timely and awaken hungry in his hands.

Worried about the minutia.

That'll be reflected in the organization to get -- guy on the other hand it's confident it knows why surrounding what he's running for.

Why it's important the nation and -- -- qualify some all of those grounds.

Then you see a guy that's confident and upbeat news organizations behind him and he's got good -- Excellent you.

You -- big part of the decision making process for.

Candidate bush than President Bush.

For VP.

We expect in the next week couple weeks that we're gonna get a decision from governor Romney.

Said the single most important criteria.

For VP choice -- to be the capacity of that.

Person to be president you said that's why you pick them.

You know all the names that are out there you've got Ryan -- you've got Portman and Pawlenty you've got Jindal.

Christie you know all the names that are the inventor of -- -- in just as everyone on that list that we hear about.

Meet that criteria laughing.

Point.

Because I'm not gonna answer your question.

No other way I think at this I think of it is to list here there's a big list and on that list I mean I listen I've been mentioned before.

I even had people call me when I was from an insurgency there could really help me and -- respect all the Huckabee on the list your analyst.

Just bookmark this but most of them and then then then somebody -- -- -- that they were on the latest embedded album back home but they were never really under consideration I'm I'm I'm on my call over the Romney campaign really put me on the list so I'm not that and then they've got a shorter you probably win.

They had hidden -- got a shorter.

A list that's three or four or five people there are serious consideration.

And in order to get on the short list my argument -- you have to be able to pass that test that you just mentioned you got to be capable.

The -- and tomorrow and -- prison not states that's the real record.

Governor Romney though didn't call you and said.

Mr.

vice president -- really like your advice you've been through this process you've been through these campaigns.

You've been vice president.

Who do you think can -- tunics.

And this way you know.

John if if I had but.

Offered that kind of advice I would want to talk to anybody about it except the candidate himself -- -- to be private communication he -- -- have.

People who go to and seek advice and counsel without seeing that.

The -- and then the -- some.

Mrs.

Clinton go about this another way without naming names do you think it all the that the do you agree that the people that we hear about meet that criteria because this -- -- this is an important we always hear about -- electoral votes swing state.

Maybe certain demographics could be hit with a certain candidate that he might appeal to certain demographics.

But your criteria is steadfast you've got to be able to step in for they want to be the president of the United States most important job in the world right.

All the names you hear are you confident without mentioning any names that they need that's there.

I'm generally.

Confident that I don't pick out any one particular individual.

But I think admitted that there's a new generation of Republicans coming along them in a very attractive generation Republicans.

And you mentioned a lot of the names the terms of the prospects and he's looking at now at this point.

And so I feel very good about the next generation and I think he's in a position my sense of it is just.

From watching and and listening.

That the governor's very much.

The mind that you've got -- you've got to addresses their issues gender race geography all those kinds of things.

Will ultimately be debated.

But that that the basic fundamental test is can this individually present United States.

And if they don't meet that test and -- -- city should be on the short list after they've been on the short list and they get over that hurdle then you've got to.

Then you can consider those with a -- -- -- the other thing I'd mention to us.

This is the first presidential level decision that that the candidate in this case governor Romney will make.

First time the American people get to see him make -- decision and has absolute -- consequences for what -- government's gonna look like.

Hand so it's real test and I think everything I can tell what that in fact governor Romney history -- -- -- that kind of serious.

You made a comment recently.

About governor -- Governor Palin responded this week and she basically said.

You know -- love and make a mistake.

And she pointed out poll numbers some other things others have pointed that out.

What did you mean by that you kind of stand by that it will be.

Well I like Governor Palin I think she's.

Very enabling effective spokesman.

For the party -- conservative causes.

She believes in a lot of the same things I believe and I think she's been very effective at that.

The question I was addressing when I was interviewed it was a question process.

And -- I think for example with the McCain process that was used in 2008.

Met the standards of the way I described him and my answer was no -- think it -- Who was named so much -- Governor Palin as it was against the basic process that McCain used -- -- Palin told me once that she didn't even though she was being considered.

Until four days before she was -- -- So I called are always talking about the -- that process -- -- that's a big part of it.

I think what about -- mentioned experience spoke to I think experience is important as well too but I've.

No I voted for -- to voted for the ticket.

But my point basically dealt with.

The process in terms of that basic requirement is this person prepared to step -- -- be present had states when they're picked.

And there and that was my judgment I was asking but I thought the McCain.

Process and -- had been well Donner wasn't mistaken process what was at -- it's not that so much as a criticism of Governor Palin has it is that I just thought it was not it -- that process didn't meet the standards I would like to see.

Our candidate pursue when they pick -- running it.
