Of the battle for control of the US senate is playing out right now.

Now in the state of Missouri and great journey for -- -- I everybody and generally in today's Republican primary in the show -- state.

Filled with political drama and the outcome could tip the bounce -- power three Republicans are fighting for the nomination.

To run against senator Claire McCaskill a Democrat.

One is a wealthy businessman John foreigner who has recently lead in the polls US congressman Todd Aiken has strong support from conservative Christians there.

And former state treasurer Sarah Steelman is trailing the pack but she can get support.

From the Tea Party thinks an endorsement by former Governor Sarah Palin.

Remember control of this and it could be at stake here right now Democrats are in the majority with 51 seats in the senate Republicans have point seven.

But 33 seats are up for grabs its when he three of that held by Democrats.

AB Stoddard associate editor at the hell I guess we'll -- everybody on his numbers later AB but you hit it sad -- to take a look at these races.

How one race can be so -- to the overall results tell us why this race in Missouri is important.

Well Clarence House call a year ago is really considered -- act mean dead in the water she's had a lot of political liabilities.

Issues that animator on popular in the state and she is in a state where Romney is running ahead of President Obama.

And -- President Obama is not expected to win Missouri Claire McCaskill has a real race on our hands no matter who the voters have taken the primary today.

I do think that if most observers and in Missouri can -- consider.

Aiken probably her best.

Opponent the one that would make it the race and most competitive that if steelman her -- -- win.

She is at this point expected to lose -- interesting when you do look at the polls and we don't dig deep into them on Election Day but for this primary battle.

There's been a real even divide.

Between these three candidates moral -- you look at some of the polling also saw that in Texas that it was such a real tight race there for the primary for our republic and represented in that.

And that senate races well.

Larry Saturday -- this to say about Republicans this time around he says Republicans the Republicans problem is a common one in this anti establishment here.

Candidate selection he -- candidate selection is not always so clear any sort of times is -- issue for the Republicans.

Oh it is as you know and when he Chen Sharon angle lost two senate majority leader Harry Reid.

In a very tough battle that read one by his widest margin he hasn't several cycles.

I can box -- the Tea Party candidate in Colorado loss and of course infamous -- Christine O'Donnell losses senate race after knocking off Mike Castle.

The expected winner and sort of senator in waiting a former governor and Delaware.

She won the primary and then went on to lose and Christians is now the senator from Delaware so you see these insurgent candidacies.

In places like Indiana this cycle where congressman Joseph Donnelly.

Bet that if Lugar ran against this guy and a Tea Party backed candidate like Richard Murdoch and the primary you would lose and Richard Lugar did.

He would be walking into a win right now -- he was still in the race.

Now Joseph Donnelly a Democrat.

Really has a chance in that race system of these outsider candidates have really threatened the republicans' prospects in the general election you look at.

Places where Republicans are doing well congressman Dean Heller in Nevada congressman Jeff flake.

In Arizona and of course governor.

-- George Allen.

In Virginia some of -- might be backed by -- part hair Club for Growth but there insiders with experience.

And -- of the candidates they're faring well but that's on the republic.

-- -- -- -- what you're saying is that some of these exercises in democracy early on in the primaries aren't necessarily.

Providing the best results in it in the more general.

Elections but as the Republican Party searches for some a new identity if you well going into -- you know this new time in politics.

Do you think these conversations will pay off the the Republican Party will emerge maybe not what the strongest candidates all the time against the Democrats but a -- -- -- Well I think when you.

Talk to Republicans in the -- -- in what still consider the establishment wing of the party they're happy that the Tea Party.

Is here and in a way -- really we directed the party towards the issue of debt.

And fiscal sanity I mean this is really have returned to their conservative principles that the party.

Has been looking for they want to get away from the overspending in the bush years.

And they want to return to fiscal conservatism.

They are not happy with the -- thing.

That the party is doing is often some of their candidates they think should win or lose saying.

And some of these you know as I said insurgent outsider candidates are not doing as well right now you know you're really looking at a picture we didn't expect which is that we house.

People in Ohio Democrats and Ohio and Florida and other battlegrounds holding on and polling better than -- Republicans this is this is a Republican year.

It and they had a real shot taking the senate and a year ago that's not something they would have expected -- intends to watch test for -- -- thank you so much for the time today.
