Today -- Zdeno intern dean of the school of ups and sciences but the competent Westchester Iona College good to -- -- And battles Michael -- the F -- -- battles Michael associates.

Tweet him at Basel sprinkled into the seats are being here are -- good to have you but.

These swing states -- it ready and that's what this election is about is now I mean we can sit.

He a new York and think we I'll vote to make a difference they really don't or you can sit out in I don't know Wyoming -- thing to vote makes a difference but it doesn't.

-- is gonna come down to this.

Half dozen -- so it's gonna come down -- this half dozen or so states and you see the candidates and he gets mentioned Brack Obama going -- to Conrad and today.

You know what states are on par and those are the states from expending their advertising money and quite frankly where they're spending their time you say you've seen Mitt Romney Barack Obama consistently in the -- states Virginia Wisconsin Ohio Pennsylvania -- rather be an interesting -- -- me it did that the results we've seen as the other ones out of Colorado because.

I think that's the first time in the swing states we've really seen Mitt Romney -- ahead of Barack Obama and granted it's still a very tight -- But it's I think you know.

We -- -- President Obama is doing much better among women still Ben Mitt Romney -- Mitt Romney is holding his own amongst middle class whites you know between thirty and a 100000 dollars a year who were not college educated so.

It's going to be a battle for those kinds of groups that they're gonna fight out.

On the airwaves and quite frankly on the ground for this.

Like a sort of micro election in a lot of ways Basil as if not just you know that that you look at these -- dozen -- -- states but also is -- mentioned.

Then looking at at tiny don't know and honestly -- but group's individual groups.

How do we appeal to that particular group whether it's Hispanics whether it's women wall whatever it is it's eight and some of -- president Obama's.

-- -- as we've seen over the last couple months of really targeted individual groups one at a time to try to make tree gets that.

But that's absolutely right in his -- mention those white working class voters are so crucial for the president if you go back to the 20072008.

Presidential primary against Hillary Clinton.

Barack did not do very well for the majority of that primary season with those voters -- of voters that Hillary Clinton.

Really locked up.

Fairly early and had consistently through the through the primary cycle so he's always seem to have a little trouble -- that demographic.

And that is the key demographic that Romney is actually doing well -- that the president needs to be able to.

To pull away from him a little bit and he may be having a little trouble in that area right now particularly because.

Because of the beaten the economy right now those of the folks that are being significantly affect -- infected.

Affected excuse me by in those swing states so that's a really core constituency for him -- -- right.

That messaging that target has to be really really.

It's surgically crafted who -- to be able to address those voters specific -- do you.

Think that tell what do you think -- the president.

Can do to win that particular section that white.

The white vote the thirty to -- 100000 dollar and is that you talk about.

Well I think he's all about -- -- it is all about jobs and the curious thing to me is that still -- Romney is not doing better overall in this anemic recovery we've seen.

You still have a contender.

Against a sitting president in a terrible economic situation with probably the worst for covering the scene from an economic downfall -- a hundred years.

And he's still not doing -- back to me as curious and I think it speaks to the fact.

Neither one of these candidates I don't feel like doing a very good job saying from a policy perspective how they're going to get us through this recovery for a -- seen a lot of back and forth.

You know a lot of Romney could turn there's a lot of advertise if we don't see as much of the advertisements in New York but across the country in these names that really matter -- They're inundated with -- a lot of attacks.

And yet what are they gonna do to fix the economy.

What are they gonna do to get these people jobs you ask -- you -- Republicans you ask independents and they cannot tell you.

And it's not because they're paying attention is because neither of these candidates -- said.

This is one on the deal for the next four years.

And I think the person's gonna separate -- -- as Romney.

Because I think Romney has it challenger has got to give independents a reason to switch and he hasn't done that yet but it's a you know and I'm waiting to hear when is this gonna happen and I'm not sure what we're waiting for -- -- -- are ready.

And and a Basil Basil look criticism of the media for not focusing on the issues here but atop the focus on the issues -- the candidates -- an -- I -- -- as -- continues as we get we get into you know love bumper sticker slogans like Romeo and Obama -- I -- -- really coming and that's the way you wound -- that the gentleman who want to lead this country and fight this.

And I can tell you if I get another single email from his campaign rested every -- me inundated with emails.

And emails are telling me anything about how this how he's gonna solve the economy.

The -- the deficiencies in the economy how would get people back to work.

I was and I agree with you but we're still not hearing that -- talking about this sort of micro targeting a minute ago whether it in the conservative.

That the president and the administration has in -- not it's not just working class what it's also.

Their base.

African Americans get a lot of young African Americans that are gonna go -- and support them but a lot more.

That feel that their lives have not really improved in the last four years right we've talked a lot about college students in the past -- -- -- you know this better than I.

That there are a lot of college students that.

That are going to come out of college this year or next year and may not have jobs to go into so a lot of those core constituencies that the president got.

So significant percentages -- of in the last -- election he may not get that this time.

Right.

-- bunch of -- -- is waiting there for some reason guys.

I come actually log in today Twitter seems to have decided to ban me but I'm single you'll comments -- Celsius as.

Solely swing states could go either way right now -- very close to me.

All for Jerry says it could still be huge swings in this election -- I think you're probably right.

That genie that a long -- -- I mean we're -- would -- the Olympics right now even though NBC has not shown that the Olympics like at the everything -- -- -- every a lot of people are still obsessed with it including me but I find the results and other places thanks in recent.

Not that I'm bitter about advancing into.

But did it did this could change a great deal once we get to the conventions impose convention.

Absolutely and I'm waiting for it to change you know I you mentioned in the media you know attacks on the media for not focusing on policy I know big defender of the media and neither Andy's here anybody else but when you look at and you say.

The -- have to report with these candidates in these campaigns are doing I mean that's their job right and these candidates these campaigns are not focusing on the issues you follow them around.

They are attacking and they are making appeals to small.

Constituent groups that they need to win -- -- states none of them have come out with big policy pronouncement even Barack Obama for years ago spoke.

More fully about what his plans were in the next four years than he is now if he's gonna look backwards this election is not gonna work with him anymore than it's gonna work for Mitt Romney so.

That to me is really curious and I agree that it is it this could come down very close.

And depend a lot on what these candidates offer voters in -- states in terms of our real policy resolution Glenn from second.

Tennis has always better off now than four years ago that's certainly going to be a theme I think of governor Romney's campaign.

So.

-- mentioned the attack ads there's a couple of that bit -- really caught the attention.

I in the last 24 hours take a look at these ads from both the Romney campaign and the Obama campaign.

In 1996.

President Clinton and a bipartisan congress and health and welfare as we know.

By requiring work for welfare but on July 12.

President Obama quietly announced -- plan to cut welfare reform.

By dropping more requirements but I don't think Mitt Romney understands you when you step into more people's lives by closing plan I don't think he realizes that that people's lives completely changed.

When Iran remain closed plant I lost my health care.

And in my family lost their health care.

And the point all of that -- it is that is that said the gentleman talking -- his wife.

Was suffering from cancer at the time and then died the implication being.

That this woman died essentially because of Mitt Romney's.

Actions would Bain Capital.

From where we're asking -- our on our question of the day here all the political ads is getting too tough.

85%.

Of you saying yes it's unnecessary distorts the truth.

However tough they not -- they work.

They were cool people people while they same polls like how was the area that we hate them you know it turns -- -- But eight seats in the dozen and even if this is entirely untrue entirely unfair consider think.

Who some of whom he's responsible for the death of this woman -- work is that it and that -- to me is one of the worst I've seen being not only apply he actually says basically and Romney killed -- what I mean did they horrible -- And you're right though we -- money is spent because there is a belief that it works and in fact there's -- to support.

Voters get more information from negative advertisements than they do from positive ones so absolutely can't campaign spending that way and it's not just the Democrats.

You see the Republican out there about welfare reform.

Even Republicans will tell you that that is not and it -- fair representation of what the Obama administration has done and giving states the power to make decisions on welfare form is something Republicans tend to supports -- it's you know it's from both Kansas from both sides.

The viewers are absolutely right it's.

You know I feel badly were in -- we don't see as many if -- -- you stay I feel badly for you by name now you are buying by.

Nobody changes and that no cause negative advertising actually does work for a political.

-- -- political consultant -- -- so we'll tell you that the question is do you do to the point we were actually turn people off from your -- right.

And so there's a fine line that you have to -- you have to walk with that.

But and I think we'll make some -- you -- about Mitt Romney.

The issue is that he -- the negative advertising needs to convince voters to fire Barack and hire him and he hasn't really made the positive case so you can -- have as many negative ads as you want but it's on what you need to positive we talk about.

Your strengths and how you're going to make.

The country better are you gonna get the economy back on track.

And the problem is -- Romney has not actually been able to do that just yet.

And at this -- writing in here says you guys are absolutely right now -- -- -- is knocking the other.
