They vote to reelect President Obama they got a pretty good idea what's coming.

And it will be chronic high levels of unemployment.

As far as the accuracy.

Stagnant wage growth and the potential for economic calamity given the massive debt and unfunded liabilities of this country hands.

Not a very different view.

But -- America can go.

President Obama -- running on the stump today talking of course about the economy we're back with our panel Melissa.

As you look at the economy now how it plays politically.

What's your sense of things.

It's stalling and there's no way to deny that when you look at the GDP numbers I mean we have -- from four point 1% to two all the way down to one point five.

Unemployment is were running in the wrong direction ticked up to eight point 3% the White House tried to spend that saying on their own website that it's really eight point 254389%.

Or whatever was saying.

You know your pain is my rounding error and I don't think that's playing well it's getting worse.

So.

Is President Obama hitting record Paul with these fairness.

Statements.

In the wake of numbers that don't really line up in his.

He's raised LT's raising doubts about Mitt Romney with and I don't think there's any question about it particularly the -- attacks and some of it not so -- to his wealth but.

But being and the outsourcing both of I think you talked to Ronnie campaign -- -- some of that has hurt because it's her perceptions of Romney's empathy.

And really his image as a job creator so some of that has -- however.

The -- the president is -- do anything about the underlying fundamentals that Melissa mentioned and that is what is defining this race most importantly.

And he can't really overcome that's -- has to change the subject and that's what he's trying to do to Mitt Romney Mitt Romney's challenge.

Is not so much to sell the American public that the economy is bad things kind of got that it's what do.

What am I going to be able to do about it at -- I gonna make your life better.

So Jim that the Obama campaigns -- is that they can show some.

Progress.

-- to tell people were on the right track but it's you look at the right track wrong track numbers and it's upside down.

Yet it may I think debt that's their -- as a show progress in the meantime -- they've been telling us now for a year is it they're gonna keep this subject not about.

Always the economy here now for the economy in the future what lol what -- Romney do compared to what the the president do.

So that's their choice or -- referendum argument and they pulled an awful lot during July surprisingly because its -- it's a high wire act.

It's almost like an alternative universe of what the economy will be like as opposed to what it has been high K and is like.

If he can pull that off it's going to be one of the greatest conjures tricks in politics Melissa there aren't a lot of arrows in the quiver I mean even if the Fed gets engaged.

There's not a lot of people out there who think the economy's gonna move dramatically.

Now know when you talk to CEOs they just say that there is incompetence out that they don't wanna hire another new person because they don't know what kind of taxes they're gonna have to pay.

On that salary they don't know what the health care it's gonna cost they don't know what the economy looks like so even companies that are sitting on money don't want to deploy their resources.

And when you have some time and again what would change that they say.

I don't know maybe we need a new administration in new -- I hear back from Democrats all the time there's just no confidence out.

She makes important point because I think what you're seeing is that the president's own political strategy which is to say I'm gonna rate would raise taxes on the wealthy.

Which means a lot of small businesses there's this it.

Hanging over the economy in January that has created more uncertainty and has made people who you talk to say you know what I'm just not -- Don't -- McCain.

Have a -- Jim I was just in Ohio and unemployment rate there has gone down to seven point two -- as some of these key battleground states.

The economy there are also factors into the equation.

Yeah and a lot of states Iowa as well I'm what interests me is that the polls are all over the place and the question once get got wrong track no question it's -- bad number for that president.

But you look at some of these policy questions and some lean.

Romney's way he's more -- on the economy and some of these balls some lean -- -- his more populist tax arguments.

Resonate with majority some -- so it's very connected to a lot of confusion out there yet unemployment is just quickly Melissa.

Are we expecting.

These numbers in these months leading up to November.

To tick up.

I don't see eight to take out or stay flat I don't see any way they get better mean we all -- since the -- of times since dinosaurs roamed the earth no one's ever been elected reelected.

When unemployment numbers like this and I don't know how you turn that around at this point in the game.

Month after month people watched it sit right at this level and you have the sense that every one of Washington's doing everything they can't bring it down it's just not working.

Paul Melissa Jim thank you very much -- panel that's it for this battle to stay tuned for continue.
