Right around the corner and at this point we don't know who -- Mitt Romney is running mate is going to be.
And and a lot of people are saying you better pick one quickly especially one Williams who wrote an article about it and he joins me out here on the sat.
And I was reading your article about how he really needs to pick.
For several reasons -- running mate number one the election is in.
A couple months OK you know he's gonna need -- VP in order to become president but secondly.
-- you write about how he needs to sort of dust away a lot of negatives and by picking a running mate that will help him.
Maybe repair some damage.
So short changes the -- yeah it changes the story line instead of everybody talking about what.
They'll be a bright new shiny -- for everyone to focus on and it is whoever he picks.
To be the vice president.
Let's talk about potential picks and you know there are there was a lot of talk that he needs help in Hispanic.
Population picked up Marco Rubio for many seems like a really strong choice but it doesn't.
I don't know doesn't seem lately that that he's sort of pulling away from knotted at that is even a possibility at this point because.
It would really help him because he might now have to fight up against the black vote.
And has spent the Latino vote and those are two categories huge demographics of President Obama -- hands down -- he should be he should be really thinking about that I mean.
Until I got to the question is how much of a difference would it would.
-- -- -- you know right now Mario rubio right.
-- -- -- I don't seem yeah I love yes well yeah because you know wet because -- of what I was I used the analogy earlier -- -- bright new shiny toy that changes the whole discussion.
Both of those folks would explode the discussion.
They would be game changes in the political lingo you would say -- my -- they would be on the cover of every magazine everybody would talk about them as breakthroughs rehearsed.
And don't forget with -- -- also have the woman angle.
So they would be game changes I don't know that rice would make that much difference in terms of the black vote or that -- it would make that much difference in terms Latino vote.
With the sense of the Republican Party has little forward looking.
Not huge numbers I think you know when we've done when you just look at the polls on rubio you know it's 5% something like I.
Think that Condoleezza Rice if I could file his campaign manager would be -- focused and well I think and I think that's -- -- -- -- disagree with and I disagree with you would not bet the black vote would not turning Condoleezza Rice is a polarizing figure she is.
Brilliance right not only that her overseas knowledge of foreign holographic.
Think it's huge and and and that's something else that you talk about.
Romney needing to sort of a pair of field overseas than European nations.
That he needs somebody like Condoleezza Rice and and if if there's anybody who has more point nobody experience she's probably potential heat heat.
So she's black she's a woman and she's got foreign experience here.
It's time and not only.
And no brainer right yeah.
The -- I league all yeah.
But you know in fact when she was out talking with the Republican cheers for all the states where they came back and there was a -- -- who would you like to see -- with Mitt Romney she was the number one pick.
Two when she went to this was our retreat that they had for big donors that Utah right she was the one who got the standing ovation everybody's talking about -- raptors so.
Among Republicans especially Republican leadership types she's hot.
Once you get into the grassroots and they start to ask about her.
Stand on abortion she says she's moderately pro choice let's not gonna play with a lot of people on the base.
And that's a problem.
Lot don't forget also that there are people like the Wall Street Journal -- our sister.
Companies are a lot -- we don't like her stand done.
And now you're -- there are a lot of conservatives that have issues with Mitt Romney's past a -- have called him a flip -- -- Rick Santorum.
Has been highly critical of of Mitt Romney right and his political past the Tea Party would certainly not be happy when that and that's also a huge backing.
You know it's John McCain had the Tea Party in his camp correct Mitt Romney on the other hand would not if he had someone who.
Who is a little on the.
Now because -- because of his own past as a moderate Republican governor of Massachusetts and so I think that -- he has had to try to lay the ground work for saying too.
People who are Tea Party and hard right types.
I and your candidate and I am going to be faithful to party orthodoxy and for him then to bring in somebody who was moderately pro choice.
-- -- -- Let's talk about.
Immigration because Mitt Romney has been very very stern against the dream -- right yesterday I was talking about how one point eight million undocumented.
Immigrants are not going to be deported most likely in this country so.
While the DREAM Act has not passed Obama has failed at it making that success he has successfully prevented a lot of illegal immigrants from being deported from this country.
He's also developed.
Certain guidelines for children who come to this country.
As minors he believes should be allowed to stay ready granted amnesty.
So it's much of -- lot -- vote is in Obama's corner and Mitt Romney is against illegal immigration he still cannot forget the fact that there are a lot of Latinos there especially in -- state of Florida that he needs Marco Rubio.
I mean and how much of a -- I mean you don't think Marco Rubio would have that big -- -- because at this point I think Romney's stance as hard as it is about.
Immigration reform he's gonna turn off a lot of Latinos.
There's no question it has turned off a lot of people yeah.
But with Marco Rubio remember Marco Rubio also is not a backer of the DREAM Act but he has.
Now I think he's still worked on it trying to get Republicans behind a smaller -- yeah Republican Mitt Romney chooses going to be backing between Hamas elected -- hardcore about it right potash and and Marco Rubio was trying to get people not to grant citizenship to those young people who were brought here by their parents -- who are in the military in college.
But simply to say.
That they could be allowed to stay and not be deported right and the so no citizenship but don't deport them so that.
And Marco Rubio spent.
Concern -- recently once -- if you give them citizenship thing you start chain citizenship offers migration.
Everybody in the family then becomes eligible we don't I want to do that so that's the Republican position.
But he has not even been able to get fellow Republicans to line up with that watered down version I just described you do so now let me come back to your strategic thinking.
You're right I think.
Member he's up Cuban heritage.
Cubans are such key political players in Florida I think he might be able to push Florida over into the -- common right now that's not clear.
But when we talk about Hispanics were talking about nationwide.
Most Hispanics talking about Hispanics and Florida who are illegals -- -- not talking on -- only legal -- remember it.
Basically and most -- -- obviously are Mexicans and then central Americans.
And that's where I don't see Marco Rubio making much of a difference and I think that's what you see you look at the polls it would have a tremendous impact though I think.
And this is something that's kind of out of the box -- some people who are watching politics.
But with independent white women who were gonna decide this election they would -- the party looks like it's now growing.
It's not simply a -- the old guys that we've seen before this is a new face this is new energy and we like it and I think it -- -- it might make.
You know some of Romney's.
Difficulty -- not personally popular it might soften some -- -- Romney's edge is to have a young attractive.
And that person like Marco Rubio.
You know and it's also important to note because they think that there's a really bad stereotype when it comes at a Latino vote that all Latinos believe that immigrants should be able to stay here actually think that's not true not true I -- people who are here illegally they want and other.
Immigrants to do the same correct figure why did I -- this.
I -- back -- went -- years -- took my mother years to become a legal right citizen and it bothers her that there are many that that that cheat the system and India have to cater to is the way you're exactly right I mean so I don't want to make that there any other that it all eyes are watching the the other half of that is -- Often times people say you did you just don't want people who are hard working folks right come here to try to better their feeling -- demonized way.
Every ethnic group has gone through this why -- you demonizing -- right his point exactly and want thank you very much you like congratulations on being a grandfather again his daughter just 1012 years we do little girl also pepper in -- all the it's.
Let alone granddad is a premier all of us know on the continent already have a two year old Graham yes wow yeah well I so we're she's we're happy family and a little awesome we'll get for her son with has some current -- thank you it's great to see you as always --
