And it is now -- full speed ahead to Election Day and to get some unique perspective on what lies ahead for congressman Ryan.

Who has now been thrust into the national spotlight we go to somebody who occupy the office of the vice presidency for eight years former Vice President Dick Cheney.

He joins us now from -- Wyoming on the phone mr.

vice president.

Welcome back to program.

Well -- and it's going to be back to.

Well enjoy watching it showed hundred efficient at.

What -- we have we're gonna show the whole trip then we have a full hour planned.

-- we spoke about governor I'm sorry congressman Paul Ryan.

My -- let me get my first reaction I wanna get yours I thought this showed that.

Candidate.

A Romney is serious on tackling the defining issue of our time which is the economy and jobs.

Your reaction.

I think it's absolutely true -- I'm a big fan of -- and you've done a tremendous job and out.

-- -- -- guy who's been there fourteen years who has jumped over twelve is more senior colleagues and made chairman of the Budget Committee.

And he's a guy who himself personally has been working on addressing -- the but a potential train local -- -- themselves so our long term debt problem and I can't take the better choice there really distinct.

It is that the title run and I have a lot of you governor Romney very high marks from Macon and I'm like you I think that what he's done here is take care and put front and center in this campaign.

Somebody's been spending time.

An -- geographic.

The most serious probably tasted the nation could have been some opponents soft aluminum.

I'm delighted with the ball on choice -- can make a great vice president.

You know but mr.

vice president I've been listening to a lot of commentary since early this morning and I think a lot of people.

I I I don't think they get.

Why this choice was made I think their analysis and has been faulty -- a lot of ways and I think that you know the analysis that.

Always that he he picked Paul Ryan.

Why did he pick Paul right now it's gonna be about Medicare.

I actually think that he picked him he picked him because.

He wants to deal directly and create 88 comparative election.

-- -- choice selection if you will.

Are on the issues involving the future of the economy in the direction of this country.

Was that done consciously didn't think.

The minute I think about it in terms of and I agree with you on that point shot but I think about it very much as a proposition.

Can you believe -- Democrats basically in a lot of the commentary.

Team based on this proposition that somehow.

We've got.

Good to talk about Medicare cuts in Medicare is an important part of the debate about it about the economy itself holds the whole.

And then -- I don't governor -- -- is all about growing economy and only myself but that's because it is still not only deal with the spending side and exert restraint but also.

-- -- an economy grow and make the economy grow many more revenue for the government and more profits for the investors and more jobs through those were -- And -- -- total package and it's not just about.

A single issue like one government program Medicare is very important.

But couldn't have been any Medicare and we get our act together we'll be able to supported -- finances.

In the in the future if in -- we can't bring some fiscal discipline -- -- and government.

And put in place tax policies and regulatory policies.

-- group of people look at what would broad generalization and blogs create new businesses and expand businesses that hire people and standard and basically grow the products that the American people that's sort of -- Depends -- civilian and try to focus on one specific small issues.

Tom -- the real question they've got answers where they don't they're prep plant what are they gonna do about it Tibet for years.

And they absolutely struck out.

Well and the question always does it come down a peace and prosperity and are you better off than you or four years ago and five trillion in debt -- -- You know I made I made the comment last week on this program mr.

vice president that we're watching.

The sleazy it's literally the dirty -- campaign in modern political history.

With governor Romney being you know accused of basically killing a woman when he wasn't even working for the company that he's a -- that he's a tax -- That the Republicans -- the E.

Coli party.

They want dirty air and water and they don't like women and they'll like dogs.

You've been around a lot of campaigns in your political career do you think these tactics in these troubling times are gonna work.

I don't think well.

Armstrong I'm convinced.

Watch this evidence so let's I'm personally read the book -- amateur you know I've talked about it.

-- -- -- -- does a fantastic job to point out the fact that Barack Obama had no experience when he became president.

That his subsequent actions while he's been an offensive then proof positive that it.

He would not consider this -- a program that deals with the basic fundamental issues of the day.

And there are only recourse since they don't have a record direct and honest to try to trash -- -- their opponents.

And but that you don't see out there -- any capacity to to put together a program a program that we'll.

Be based -- those basic fundamental values that I think most Americans police didn't care about program that'll work and produce results of this they -- nearly four years into the Obama administration now.

And we don't have much to -- -- I'm very direct contrast mr.

vice president from what we saw in 2008 hope and change and he's gonna bring the country together we're not red America blue America.

The United States of America.

It if you -- to offer advice on.

You've been through -- campaign -- to.

On how to deal with these attacks you know what what strategy would you offer governor Romney and and congressman -- Well I think.

They need to continue to both but still there's some of the you perceive these detailed talks.

And I -- they've been out on the campaign trail and I like very much what I think I think -- -- rich.

That this sort of an individual -- -- that he's he's out there swinging away but took all the great addition he will have a responsibility not only to be.

You know helping to lay out the pilot program and -- -- wanna take the country.

But one thing that was until it -- was -- -- -- campaign there was I was that he -- the line for example one would be John Kerry.

Actually go to tour before I go to different.

Think -- the confident -- -- always got a happy 87 billion dollars you know this little rock and a -- I think ever -- and you can do that Barack Obama saying.

Tips I don't think he would be built a business that you didn't build -- somebody -- still but.

That's outrageous that he would make a statement like that but it also displays.

Company's very deep.

And in his -- he believes that -- he -- the only.

Good -- -- -- wherever they only job was ever created the United States is created by the United States government.

There -- three things that congressman Ryan said today it -- he said.

We won't ducked the tough issues we will lead we won't play mothers will take responsibility.

We won't replace our founding principles we will we will re apply them.

Am not I guess that's great guidance great guidelines and that say I loved watching him today and it's.

The governor Romney ruled him -- men that made the announcement then went on the road I think that's attractive to roll out as I've ever seen at the vice president well.

Mr.

vice president you did you know the electoral.

You know electoral votes and a new study Ohio and I know you went in 2000 and for many times you went back to the state of Wisconsin.

But something seems -- have changed when governor Scott Walker was able to fight off this recall and get more votes and he'd gotten in 2010.

It seemed to me that that that told me that people of Wisconsin.

Are serious about balanced budgets they didn't want deficits they didn't want dead they didn't want to put that on the kids and grandkids.

Do you think Wisconsin now for the Romney Ryan ticket is implied.

I think it definitely -- I but I would be.

Strong supporting the proposition that I think can carry estate I worked there are many many years ago China was.

The assistant to governor Arnold speck in the mid sixties.

And damn that's where I -- got to expose relate to him.

Does the political wars and then they were just tremendous people and leaders in Wisconsin -- a day -- -- You -- -- Mormon people like Scott Walker now especially Paul -- and -- you know to produce a magnificent political leaders over the years.

They know how to address definitions and the thing that I like about Paul Ryan is he's had the courage to stand up and say look I'm a little idea we're gonna tell you the truth then this is the truth and it's painful and it's difficult but we got to make these decisions we've got to make these choices.

We can't touch around for four more years.

Because all we're doing and I'd look at my.

-- to they have fuel granddaughters that golf clearly data goes on I would just add not to associate.

Her kids and then there -- family are gonna have to worry about 3040 years down the road.

And it just cannot be.

Tolerated a minute more and we don't have a president who's prepared to stand up and address those issues.

I'm afraid we're in deep deep.

In the -- Correct.

Mr.

vice president thanks -- -- with us that we have a full hour with.
